Hey! You'll first need to go to Gotemba Station. Buses operate between Gotemba Station and the Subashiri 5th Station every 1-2 hours during the climbing season. Here is the timetable: www.japan-guide.com/bus/fuji_season.html How to get from Tokyo to Gotemba Take the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo to Kozu (75 minutes, frequent departures) and change to the JR Gotemba Line to Gotemba (50 minutes, 1-2 trains per hour). The entire journey costs 1980 yen. Alternatively, take the Odakyu Railway from Shinjuku to Shin-Matsuda Station (80 minutes, 800 yen by express train, frequent departures), walk to JR Matsuda Station and take the JR Gotemba Line to Gotemba (30 minutes, 510 yen, 1-2 trains per hour). Additionally, there are a few "Mount Fuji" limited express trains, which operate directly between Shinjuku and Gotemba Station. The one way trip takes about 100 minutes and costs around 3000 yen.

Unfortunately, I do not think so. My advice is to find a tour guide and go with a group. They usually have huts booked, so I believe this is gonna be the only option for you at this moment 😢

I would advise you to do it! Here is the link to the corresponding page on their official website. Scroll down a little bit and you will see dropdown list with the names of the trails. Simply select the trail you are planning on hiking and you will see the details on the busses ( and links to buy tickets). Hope that helps!

Yes, you got a very good answer here. Everything will be closed down and you won't be able to stamp your pole. I climbed literally the last weekend before the season was over. A lot of huts and stations were already shut down and a lot of them were cleaning up & and getting ready to go back down( you just could tell that they won't return back soon).

Hey! Thank you for watching ❤️ I would not advise hiring the guide unless you cannot book an accommodation yourself. The season is short and lodges are sold out really fast and most of them are booked by guides. If you get to book the lodge yourself, there is absolutely no need to hire a guide - the trails are well maintained, and navigation is everywhere along the trails.

Ugh, leeches. Definitely not the most dangerous thing you can meet on a trail in Japan, but, I get it, they are not pleasant at all 😅🤢 I honestly didn't experience them in Kumano (and didn't even see them on the trails). We used anti insects repellent at all times (check that the list includes leeches as well). Also, I never go hiking without my thick, long socks. Mine are not necessarily anti leech, but I did see those leech protective socks on Amazon as well. Check it out! Also, there are hiking leg gaiters that you can use: they are covering your legs from the knee area down, most importantly protecting anything to get into your boots. Hope that helps! And good luck exploring the area- it is so worth it 🥰

Thank you so much for watching ❤️ That is true, it is extremely hard to get lodging. My advice to you would be (if you don't get to book by your own), hire a tour guide . They usually sell package for very reasonable price (basically price of the lodge + maybe 20%). They provide you with everything, you just basically will need to show up on time and thats it. They are the reason why it is so hard to book individually - those tour guides buy A LOT to accommodate their clients.

Hello :) How was the weather during October please ?

@@Thebirdyy12998 We stayed 4 days and we had a bit of rain one day in the afternoon, but the temperature that day was 26/27 degrees celsius. I had other days that the temperature was 28 degrees it was cloudy sometimes in the morning but still hot. and then all sunny. I was there for Halloween they had a little halloween festival fair (particular because it was hot ...the pumpkins were made of cardboard 😆). I think if you go in early October the weather is better. I arrive there on the 26th of October and I stayed until the 29th and then I moved to Naha.

I believe this one would be the closest parking lot: maps.app.goo.gl/f6qtEjMiWYQe2Kcv5 Google Maps won't show you how much longer you need to walk from there to the destination, but it is VERY close! Because this is perhaps the most accessible part of Kumano, it will be packed with tourists. Not to discourage you, just to warn. The falls are truly magnificent, and it is worth visiting for sure. If you can, hike around as much as possible. This way, your journey will be more tranquil ❤️🙏

Sorry - that was our very first video, and we didn't realize back then the importance of putting names 😉 here are the names of the beaches from the video: 06:04 - Sunayama Beach (by far the most beautiful one!) 6:44 - Shigira Beach (abundance of the marine life) 6:53 - Sunayama again (this little secluded sandy part can be accessed by water only from Sunayama Beach. You don't even need to swim - just walk around the cliff that is on the left side of the beach👌) 6:59 - Shigira Beach again. 7:06 - This one is Irabu Island. Put "17End" into your Google maps search bar, and you will be able to get there. Fun spot where you can observe the planes landing on the island 🏝) 7:18 - Yonaha Beach. It's probably the best one for swimming as there are no corals. Enjoy your trip to Miyako ❤️

Good question! As a hiking nerd who is always concerned about the safety, I would say you need hiking boots. My husband takes it much easier, and he was actually hiking in sneakers, and he was perfectly fine. 🙂 The trails are generally not hard to hike, however, please note that you will most likely be hiking under the rain or after the rain (it's raining a lot there!) and the trails get wet and slippery. Hey there! Unfortunately, it does look like there are no earlier transportation options. I will give you some options that you might want to consider: (1) take the first shuttle (6AM) and start your ascend right away, at about 6.40AM. It looks like it will take AT LEAST 5 hours for you to get to the top. Even if it will take 7 hours, it looks like you probably will have enough time to go up and down before the last bus. If you are late for the last bus, there MIGHT be taxi available that can take you down to the nearest town. To me, this sounds like a very stressful adventure, but we are all different - if you are looking for a quick run, maybe this is for you (2) do what most of the bullet climbers do: start your hike at night. I believe, if you take the very last bus (8PM), you will reach the 5th station at about 8:40PM. You will have some time to adjust to the altitude, stretch, maybe even have a small snack. Start your hike at around midnight so you reach the top for the sunrise. This is honestly the absolute best moment of the climb: the sunrise and walk around the crater. If you have a chance - please do it! Its by far the best views in my life (3) maybe consider staying overnight? not gonna push this option, obviously you know better. I am just strongly advocating for the safest possible approach (this is what Japan does to you haha!) hope that helps! Good luck with you climb!

@@LetsMeetJapan hay appreciate the feedback. my wife will be hiking w me n option 2 at night might b too cold for her plus u don't get to see anything. seeing sunrise is not a priority for me n staying overnight is an option but as we are on a tight budget we are going to bight the bullet n trying our best to do it in a day. according to the literature it says 5 up n 3 dwn, so m giving myself 10hrs 7up 3 dwn, its the wife who is the slow one lol

Hey there! Thanks for your question. Even though there might be a list like that, it most likely will only feature very touristy places (big, expensive, crowded). I'd advise you to look for the following tips when it comes to onsen: - private onsen (onsen inside of your room that only you can access). It is usually quite pricey but provides an incredible traditional experience. - public onsen that can be booked for private use (one of our last videos about that kind of onsen. Any of those who stay at the ryokan can book that onsen for private use. Since you two are gonna be alone there, tattoos are not an issue. Lots of traditional family-run ryuokans have this service. When you find an onsen that you like, just check the website for those details. This is how we always get great onsen with amazing views and no people bathing with us. Oh, and lastly, if the tattoos are not too big, you can cover them (check on Amazon Japan, there are light-color masking tape). My tattoo is too big to be covered, but maybe that will work for you🙌

I do want to say that P stands for Part or maybe Point (?) but I dont know for sure. Basically, those P1, P2-P3 etc correspond to different parts of the main trail. They also are color-coded, so you can see what each section can offer in terms of distance, time to walk that specific part, elevation gain & loss. They have variety of maps on their website and those P1-P2-etc-codes are pretty useful when you try to match information from different maps :)

We didn't do any pre-payment. Don't worry about that. If they confirm your reservation via email or phone, you good to go! This is a very "traditional" small Japanese family business, so they don't have an advanced booking system. But it is so worth it - absolutely wonderful place and we would so go there again!

We tried onsen in Shirakawago when we traveled there 3 years ago - it was magical, too ✨️ very expensive, but, yeah, magical 😅 BTW, I am from Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 in my hometown there, the temperature gets as cold as -40°С. Japanese winter feels like a tropical vacation to me 😅 I just didn't expect it would be chilly there, while in Tokyo, it was still +20°C. -Oxy

I enjoy the cold ❄️ weather especially in JP due to onsen ♨️ but -40°c, I'll pass, too cold 🥶 to survive for me. But, if the accomodations is a nice hotel with hotspring I'll take a chance under 0°c 😊 I didn't realize these villages stays are costly? Isn't it supposed to be cheaper than staying in a big city? All of my stays are in a hotel 🏨 and it's mostly free. Anyhow, enjoy, life is short - travel more 😊 Oh I'm here in California, Merry X-mas and y'all enjoy the New Year 🎊 Happy 2024 🎉

Haha, I feel you! -40°C is like stepping into a freezer🥶 As for the prices - they vary a lot. "Touristy countryside" will be more expensive than the remote and less-known areas. Shirakawa definitely is super crowded now and that drives prices up. Overall, we prefer more quiet, remote areas. And we also like small, family-owned Onsens. Those might be harder to get to (by trains, buses, walking sometimes), and harder to book (they are small - 3-5 rooms only). But, to us, it is so worth it - they really provide us with an authentic experience. The cost might be around $100 per person per night. But there are also luxury options: usually big hotel-looking places. They are crowded and usually packed with tourists. Yes, you still will get an amazing experience, but the price will probably be over $500 per person per night. Anyway, have a happy holiday season! Hope 2024 brings you new adventures! I stayed all these 4 to 5 stars big hotels (US and JP hotels) so I want to experience something unique and different :) Wow, small and family-owned onsen, a 3 to 5 bedroom, that is sooo cool. I want it LOL. Where? Does these accommodations accept credit cards payment? If not, how do you book it online? Do you take points (like transfer points from a card(s)? @@LetsMeetJapan ❤️ Ok 😊 because I always wonder if Japanese ryokan, hotel have any loyalty program like US hotels. If there such a thing with these hotel/ryokan there's no need to stay in American hotel in Japan due to the awesome onsen ♨️ I visited JP twice a year for a total of 1 months.
