David Siltz - Pool Shooter
США
Добавлен 1 июл 2011
I shoot pool, and I talk about that. A lot. Pool instruction, pool stories, pool advice, pool equipment, pool gripes, pool pool pool.
I also have over 40 pool cues in my collection, so I talk about them as well.
Also, I'm a beer snob.
Also, I have cats that sometimes "help" me with my videos.

If we're lucky, we all get old and our pool game suffers. Here I talk a bit about some ways to lessen that deterioration.

Messed up a perfectly good southwest. Richard hsu makes a non permanent SW bumper extension and matching custom extension for these exact cues.
Doing this kind of stuff teaches you what is possible, your chances of making it, and your limitations. Some shots like that I do, I find I can't make them without throw, or I make them more often with it, probably am hitting a bit fuller and stroking slower. By the way, Great job on all the thumbnail artistry. -Mike
I like to know what my limits are. Then I can, in theory at least, be able to make anything up to those limits. I can't, however, take any credit for the thumbnails. Those are all AI-generated.
@davidsiltz I'm sure the AI inputs and idea's are yours, some AI art just leaves me speechless.
@@MikeFortin-bh2yr I can be pretty cool, and it's only going to get better from now on.
We all know you're just going to bank every one of those 😉
Before I moved back to this area, I never banked anything. I just cut them in, and they usually went. Just trying to get some of that back.
Hey I play in an apa league and I'm a new captain and a SL 5. Loved your video and completely agree with you on everything you said. The unfortunate thing is that when I first joined 2 years ago most, not all, teams were sandbaggers. I happened to join one of those teams and as a new player I didn't know any better. They gave reasons of "be a team player" or "it'll help you and your team in the long run". It honestly took a toll on me mentally, losing on purpose or missing shots on purpose to rack up on innings. I left those teams and created my own to get away from those players and that kind of thinking. My two rules for my team is this: NO SANDBAGGING and HAVE FUN! I definitely don't want to make any new players go through the stupidity I went through when I first joined.
I really enjoyed all aspects of league play for over a decade. It wasn't until I got involved in league operations that I saw how prevalent sandbagging was among some groups. That stuff ruined all the fun for me. I hate sandbaggers.
What colour is your Diamond? I love it!
The wood is Diamond's walnut stain, though it's a little darker than some others I've seen. If you meant the cloth, it's Simonis 860HR in the "Tournament Blue" color.
Hello Dave, do you have any opinion on joint material and pin style? Have you noticed a difference of hit due to joint style?
Most of my best-hitting cues are piloted SS joints, but I really think it's more about the manufacturing quality than the actual joint type. It just needs to feel solid, like it was a single piece of wood. Of course, personal tastes matter, and I only know my own tastes. I do think an SS joint collar looks the best, but not everyone agrees with me on that.
I appreciate all your videos and answers to my questions but having to scroll through a hundred vids to find the latest isn't working for me. Unless I just don't know how to find the latest?
Hmmm, if I go to my channel page and slick videos, there are buttons to select latest, popular, and oldest. Do you have those buttons?
Ive dropped the 8 in the side pocket many times on the break doing that, other times the que goes flying off the table. Also, is that one of those cat hamster wheels in the background? If so, do they use it? I just found out about them recently
Waterloo uses it all the time. Tak-Tak used it sometimes. Newbie is scared of it.
Never heard of it. But will try. Thanks
It certainly makes my breaks more consistent. Good luck!
"Visio diagram"... Definitely an engineer. one of us. one of us. one of us!
For 40 years now. I also realized that a lot of my RUclips viewers have probably never heard of Visio.
I visit the Meucci Family Pool Hall in Byhalia Ms from time to time. Still family run. They pronounce it Mew-chi in the shop. Thats also were the cues are made. They have about 8 tables and a small shop in the back where they produce cues. Enjoyed the video , thanks. Ps. I use the predator z2 shaft on my 97-10. Love the combo with that cue.
I've done it, but now you've got me thinking about moving my cue ball around to pick my aiming spot through the rack sometimes if I need to figure out a table etc. instead of a little this way or that.
The older I get, the more useful little tricks like this become.
Having a snooker background, it always came easy for me to use balls other than the head ball as my target when breaking an 8 ball rack. Cut breaks, second ball breaks and such have been a part of the game for me and my usual opponents for a long time. I know it's viewed as "unconventional" in some pool halls, but not illegal.
Hmmm, I don't have a snooker background, but the guy who first showed this trick to me was stationed in England for several years. He could have picked it up there.
Great info as always!
Come on over sometime and try snooker on the 6x12
I've really been wanting to. My work schedule pretty much prevents all social activites.
Just have Diamond make you new top rails, skirts and cushions. I would pass on the 10'. 4" pockets will reduce the fun part of your practice session. 4" pockets are brutal!! But what do I know? It's your choice.
I talked to Chad from Diamond. That's probably what I'm going to end up doing if I don't get a 10-footer.
Sergio Rivas made it to the 11th round before he got knocked out by Fedor. You did well Dave, and thanks for your videos.
He's a really good banker. Way better than me, even if I'd lived up to my own expectations for myself.
I wish I had space for a 7ft diamond in my tiny apartment. My dream is to have a 9ft diamond table with 4" pockets. I play on 4.25 pockets most of the days. Your space is ideal for a 9ft table in my opinion.
Dave, im guessing that you compete on 9 foot tables , you practice on a high quality 9 foot table not to mention you are most likely very comfortable on a 9 foot table . the 10 foot table ..... i don't know.... I wouldn't do it. loved hearing you ramble about it though.
I do okay on 9-footer, but I'm not sure I'd say that "I compete" on them. A 10-footer would be fun for me, and that's pretty much my main focus these days.
@@davidsiltz Dave, i think you might have you mentioned in your video, on a 10 footer more accuracy is required on longer distance shots. this is a real question.... Would you say that additional accuracy would also be required on banks on the 10 foot table?
@@jamesradcliffe9607 Absolutely. Even if the distances between the CB to the OB, and the OB to the cushion, are short, there will always be a longer distance from the cushion to the target pocket.
The 10ft er- I would say no to.
I can't decide if I should put penguin pro cut rails on my valley. 4 1/4 inch corners. Will it really help my game??
It would require more accuracy. If you think that would help, it would probably help.
Over sized 8 footer. Best of both worlds!
That was my reasoning back in the day. Acutally, I don't knoew if that old table of mine was an oversized or a regular 8-footer.
All I can fit is a bar box, so I had Penguine custom make me rails for it that make all the corners measure a hair under 4". It's the best I could do in my house. My first table was a Fischer 8 footer. It wasn't a bad table!
At 13yrs old in 1966 my next door neighbor had a Fischer 8 ft. Table 1 in marble top. Great table. My neighbor sold it to another of our friends and still play on it to this day. My basement is too small for an 8 ft but just right for my Diamond bar box.
4" pockets is tough no matter how big the rest of the table is.
@@Sideshot45 Do you mean marble instead of slate?
@ yes.
@@Sideshot45 I've heard of such a thing, but never seen one. Does it play like slate?
Good luck
"I wish they'd let me play that tournament down here in my basement."
It happens to the best of the best. You have a good outlook on it so, no big deal. U will play above par next time!
What a bummer I don't really like slow play at all I kind of take after Earl Strickland fast and loose
I hope they roll good for you!
35 yrs ago nubs nova cue told me soot all those cross bank medium speed take one more thing 2:44 out of the equation
Good luck to you, pick the best cue and slay them!😊
Slow play is the reason we can't have nice things in pool.
You r a veteran. Let's Go Dave!!
That’s smart.
All tables have 4.5" pockets?
I think so, except the TV able will have 4.25" pockets. I didn't check, but that's what I've heard.
Master of the Table
Good luck. You'll do fine. Enjoy it.
I make no predictions about how well or how badly I'll play. I certainly feel more prepared than I have in several years, but that's it. I will certainly enjoy it, no matter how I do in the tournament.
I really enjoy your attitude Dave!..so..good luck, but more importantly..continue to have fun thru it all..take care !
It's all fun except the waiting.
@davidsiltz by the way..which cue are ya gonna bank with?..the "p-13 f pechaurer? "
@@mathewwatkins105 My Southwest continues to be my primary cue.
Anybody knows where I can sell a joss sneaky Pete in good condition?
Some pool retailers will buy used cues. I know that if I had to sell a cue I'd go to my local pool supply vendor. If that wasn't available, I'd probably be looking at Facebook marketplace. I've got some fine cues (including my Southwest) via Facebook.
Thanks a million
@@charleswallace7728 Depending on how often you're around other players, you could also just make it known that you have a nice cue to sell. Depending on the cue and the price, you might have people stampeding to get to you.
@@davidsiltz yeah I think it's around 40+ years old I'm thinking it should I get at least around $750.what you think?
@@charleswallace7728 Without seeing a picture it's hard to tell. You said it's a Sneaky Pete, so that probably means that it looks pretty plain. I think you'd have to be able to prove its age, then maybe a reseller might be interested. But a regular player probably wouldn't be interested for that kind of price. Also, if you sold a $750 cue to someone intending to resell it for $750, you'd probably only be looking at $650 maximum for yourself. Can you prove how old it is? Is it a Joss West or a Regular Joss? These things definitely matter. My thinking is that you're probably overvaluing the cue.
I played when it was at Executive West. Good luck Dave!
I liked it better when it was there, at least until they started spilling tournament tables into other rooms. Much more intimate before they started doing that.
Dave, I hope you get a good draw and surprise yourself....have a great time ..On another note, Go Alex the Lion,
I would love to play Alex. For a long time he was my pick for the best all-around player on the planet. Him and Bustamante.
Derby for you is like Disney for pool players Dave?
I was thinking more like a big car show and swap meet for car enthusiasts. To me, the DCC is more like the Street Machine Nationals, but for pool.
When my cat was a kitten he used to climb my leg, up my side, and sit on my shoulder to watch me cook. Now that he is full sized it’s not as cute and rather painful.
When they're kittens their claws are like little needles. When they grow up, their claws don't penetrate as far, but their weight more than makes up for the difference. What with the tearing of flesh and all.
Nice video Dave. The jab stroke can definitely produce speed. Do you think the speed comes from the chest muscle?
I don't feel like my chest is involved, just my right bicep muscle. Maybe a bit of right shoulder, but with a jab stroke that's probably not very involved.
Happy New Year Dave!
I have a meucci from the 80s Jimmie rempe series absolutely love that cue all I've ever used in more than 37 yrs
I was anti-Meucci back in the 80s, but I'd love to have one these days.
Getting old ain't for sissies!

And this is a perfect example of why CTE people have such a terrible reputation. They come in, probably don't watch the video, don't provide any useful information, and yet still feel compelled to tout CTE.
