Progress! We have a cute little tune coming together. Next session will be more of a grind - I need to start writing a new section the explores more harmonic/rhythmic variation between the bass and melody. Time Stamps 0:15 - First Listen 0:30 - More rhythmic contrast 2:00 - Form development, composing next pattern 16:00 - Adding drum beat 20:00 - Adding melodic layer 32:00 - Levi sfx 32:45 - Re...

Hey everyone! It’s the start of a new song! No time stamps because this whole video is just creative exploration. But if you’d like to hear what I came up with, and the pathways I’ll be exploring next session, go to 27:00 (Had some audio routing issues in this video, so the Pico-8 audio is a bit loud at times. I did my best to lower the really loud parts, but I probably missed some. Sorry!) - @...

The Chromatic Scale - Jazz Piano Tutorial #1
Been experimenting. I like the sound of chromatic 4ths RH with a 2nd whole step up from the 1st going chromatic descending ykwim?
This is exactly what i have been looking for. I play classical, but for jazz, I think need the scale/chord variations of other players to work from.
Beautiful tutorial. Thank you so much
You haven’t posted anything in a year, why not just release the rest of the tutorials you paywalled for free? Unless you still have patrons I guess…
this is SO cool
Hi! nice series, wish it continued here on youtube :(((
First part reminds me of kings field
Show !!!
Cool
cool vid, btw. there's a new version of milkytracker: ruclips.net/video/0k6FcFmQGPg/видео.html
I wish this series actually continued :'(
Me too :( I burnt out
After struggling to understand Arp effects for a week, 8 minutes were enough to finally get it. Thats what I call a good tutorial.
Thank you :)
How come I only have mono/ sound in my left ear when pressing my keyboard but pressing the WAV button makes it in stereo?
I figured it out. For anyone in the future, in the "Options" menu you can set the default panning. Press the mono preset if you want all channels to be in mono.
Great work man! I just can't have this rack to work, theres no sound. I added samples, instruments but nothing comes out. what am I missing?
You shouldn't need to add samples. They're all included in the pack. It uses a chain selector to scrub through different sounds/textures (Texture knob). A MIDI note should trigger the sample.
have you tried picotron yet?
hey so i can't find a newer tutorial on this, do i need to pay the subscription to have access to the music maker? i've been looking all over the website and i can't find it and i really wanna start making something with this but i genuinely don't know where this music maker is and how to open it
Do you mean the "music maker" in Pico-8? 'Cause if so, then you should be able to get pretty far without a subscription This tutorial is old, and doesn't include some newer features, but should still give you a good idea of how to start making music and sound.
When your blocks are close to the top
i'm going to take the time to watch all 64 of your music tutorials and learn music theory from this.
i ADORE you these tutorials are insanely helpful.
mind blowing!
Please breakdown
Hi there, for some reason the Scale section in my layout resolution menu is grayed out and I can't change it. Why is this?
The game really wouldn't be the same without this music. You greatly elevated the experience of every player! Thank you.
That’s cool❤
Thx a lot it was so helpful to me
quite sounds cool
Siiiiick 🤘
thank you 😊
Even after this time, its' charm shines through to this day. Still good, after all this time.
holy cow I had no idea this was built in
Great!
That's gonna be a LOONG journey
Just watched the first 4 parts of this and it was really helpful on getting me set up to implement a custom system like this. I always forget we can add silence. I look forward to watching more of your content!
I appreciate the videos, but is there some sort of manual or commands list I can reference for the different effects and functions? I can't find anything like that online and I not a huge fan of scrolling back and forth through videos looking for a specific thing I'm trying to do.
Try this: www.patreon.com/posts/music-hotkeys-8-29082862 It's a few years old, and there may be a few new ones now. But should help get you started.

I know i will eventually get good at making games in pico 8 but not music
Smurfy 1 Gba Overworld Bloxels Version
i need a Fasttracker 2 tutorial
Are you Normally Normal !? 😮
Yeah. Just a normal dude ;)
Yes! Another great c64 rendition!!!! That bass drum sounds so deep.
haha fantastic! You got slides and rhythm down to perfection.
This sounds superb, a great rendition of Monty On The Run, a true c64 classic
Dear Gruber, can you help? I'm pressing the keyboard but no sound plays. I can still manualy play the sound pressing the WAV button but that's the only way.
Hey, were you able to figure this out? Hard to know exactly what the problem is, so I can only recommend clicking through all the menus. Especially Config-->I/O. Also make sure you're in "record" mode when you're inputting so the input bar is red.
@@Gruber_Music yeah sometimes you need to click on the track editor on the place you put in the note, that helps.
@@GinoZump Use "spacebar" to go into, and out of, record mode. The sound will only play if you're in the part of the column where you can input notes. If the cursor is anywhere else, there'll be no sound.
It's insane how complex, yet innocuous this track is. Casually listening to it, I didn't notice just how often tuplets, polyrhythms, and tempo changes were used to achieve these layered sounds. And the fact that so few channels were used to achieve such a rich sound shows a real understanding of both composition and trackers. Incredible job!
Thank you thank you! You might be interested in my album "Counterpoint" - All 2-channel Pico-8 compositions. One of my favourite composition challenges. ruclips.net/video/SSPqhbwW75w/видео.html
@@Gruber_Music I listened to Counterpoint right after hearing a few tracks from your Pico-8 playlist and I loved it. As a huge fan of Phillip Glass, Pico Gates was a fantastic listen as well.
@@brendonallen6300 Love that minimalist stuff too! "Pico Gates" refers to John Adam's pieces China Gates and Phrygian Gates. Some of my favourite piano music. Highly recommend Gloria Cheng's recordings if you don't know those pieces :)
what do u think of furnace and deflemask as trackers?
I've never used them. If you're trying to decide which to use, try them all for a bit (but also try not to spend any money). If you still can't decide, then there's no wrong answer. Go with whichever has the most supportive community.
The vibrato on the note fading out is great !
This is so amazing Oo
Thank you :)
Is this pico 8 pro
No such thing
Exactly what I was looking for thank you!
Great!
