Charlie was born and raised in Shenandoah, Iowa. He and the Everly Brothers both got their starts as part of family bands performing on a local Shenandoah radio station, KMA. The station was founded by seed salesman Earl May who built the seed and gardening empire that bears his name. You can still go to the Everly's old, and tiny, house in Shenandoah.
