So, we are supposed to accept that the Donald Sinden character is actually attracted to women? I don't believe that such a man has ever existed. I just can't buy it.

An Unofficial Rose was made into a teleseries by BBC2 in 1974. It looks to have been exquisitely cast, written and directed... I wish it was available to watch, somewhere on the internet - anyone have any clues?

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the play a couple of time. One performance had the highlight of Edward Fox playing the Valet, always a superb performance, and the other with Rik Mayall as the lead. Rik, was Rik. If you’ve saw him on stage, you’ll know what I mean. Very funny, kept the cast guessing as to what he was going to do next, and a lot of playing to the audience. Especially when flicking the v’s to the audience when he fluffed a line. It was less than conventional but hilarious.

I stood in front of one of his paintings, almost exactly like the one at 50:00, and it was really intense, I stood right in front of it and it was just coming right at me, 3 dimensional and super alive. It was one of the best they had, at the museum of Modern Art in New York. His and the Picasso's really stood out to me as the most interesting and exciting in the entire museum

It is not politically correct to say so I am afraid but I qualified as a social worker in Australia in 1976 and at no time have I done anything but act. My study of coward even in my family upbringing and during social work training gave me incredible resilience from.roles in social activism to palliative care. Despite the naive view about feelings being necessary to work with people Noel coward demonstrates the aloof science of theatre

He's an okay actor, no John Barrymore et al.. as Orson Welles said about Barrymore, there is none like him the best and had that certain thing. I think Coward is better as a raconteur.

This is by far the best production of Present Laughter that I have seen (and I've seen a few)! I keep watching it every year! Donald Sinden and the four female leads are just superb - unmatched really!

I love Abstract Expressionism but I have to say that I'm glad that the Pop Artists came along and turned the tough, drunken cowboy, John Wayne with a paintbrush ideal into a subject of mockery. That sort of insecurity about maintaining a sense of manhood in what was considered an effete profession is just really a massive waste of time and energy. The AbEx painters had a lot of great ideas and I wish people would have focused more on their philosophies and not on how rowdy and aggressive they were when they drank.

Her mind and body are held in balance: she was a writer, thinker, artist, philosopher; and she smiles from the mind. Egoless, charming, at one with the interviewer-critic.

I came to live in London from the Philippines in the late ‘80s and came to adore British theatre, Britain’s immeasurable contribution to world culture. But I totally missed the career of the brilliant Donald Sinden, sadly. I’ve just discovered his magnificent terpsichorean talent upon viewing this Coward classic and am now hoping to find his other filmed performances on YT. Thank you for this ! 🥰
