    I have a few pair of boots that I am trying on. They are the same 120 stiffness but one pair feel like they I push forward to easily....lets my ankles flex forward so much that it seems like on the ski hill...that over flex will hurt in the ankle joint after awhile...much like when I used to snowboard. How much should the pressure on the boot tongue be able to hold you vs your ankle/calf strength with pressure into your toes when you are getting over your toes in a correct ski stance?

    The lifting of an up slope leg never helped my students to get centered on their skis, especially when going cross slope. They would go right back to their "tail wagging" position with weight back. If they hit ice, their their tails would slip out. What I discovered from my own skiing, that centering on your skis depends on how developed your lower leg muscles are. Beginners and intermediates tend to have weaker lower leg muscle control. Because of ski boot design, one can easily sit back on their boot backs, if they have little lower leg strength. And then they turn into "tail waggers." I had a lot of success in getting students centered on their skis by going back to the wedge (snow plow) position and getting them to apply pressure on their toes to turn while in wedge position. To do it right, you have to move more forward on your skis, which actually strengthens lower leg muscles and gives more control. If you sit back on your skis, you can't put pressure on your toes, you just force yourself back and put more weight on the backs of the skis. Once you get the students forward, and push down on their toes to start and maintain a turn, in wedge position, they'd gradually get more centered. Then we'd gradually transition to more parallel ski positions. And once you get them to be centered on their skis, then maintaining a carved turn gets easier with more control, THEN, you can get them to make those circular carving turns. My main problem with upper intermediate, "tail wagging" students who wanted more control, was when I insisted we go back to practicing wedge turns first and controlling turns with our toes. They weren't happy about that, with some complaining to my ski school director about it, especially in private lessons. Those skiers never did learn to center their weight on their skis. The key to getting students to do all that you say, is to get them "centered" on their skis first, which is the most difficult thing to get them to do. Once they're "centered," tilting their legs more, and all the other advanced maneuvers becomes possible.

    good video, but the vertical drop for this 16 lifts/ this course trough the resort cant be 12475m. When you add up your mentioned 16 lift rides, youll get about 8450m vertical. 8000m vertical without taking chapelets twice! 8000m vertical doable for much more skiers than 12500m.

      @@maisonsport now im even more confusent, because this doesent add up either :D anyway: i think such videos are a great idea. Much people struggle to find all the slopes and lifts in the 3V. Some people even say the 3V mainly consists of cat tracks and crowded tracks. Thats far from reality. But it shows that many people are missing around 2/3 of all tracks despite skiing there each year! Your route trough courchevel and Orelle is fine. However middle sections trough meribel arent. Sitelle/Martre and lac de la cambre are the worst blue runs in the 3V. Plattiers and Cote brune are teo of the most crowded lifts. I think skiing all 3 vallees only makes sence, if you dont take the shortest route. detours are important. My improved round: In Merible take "Combes" and "Roc de Tounge" instead. Ski down Treppes run. Than take "Granges". Now you can chose any route down to "Bruyeres 1" From the middle station take run Chasse. Than take lift "Plan de Elau" and ski down to the big "Cime Caron" Gondola. --- your path trough orelle --- Take "Rosael" back up and run Falaise down. With "Grand Fond" up again and than take one of the other great slopes there (medaille) down to the 360 bar. --- your lifts 11 and 12 --- ski down (from col de la cambre) any run to "sunny express" than take "Roc 2" to reach the slope mouflon. On of my fav. slopes. --- your tour again after reaching run sitelle in merible --- Vertical drop of this round: ~9700meters. not perfect either, but better.

    This is an interesting presentation of the three pressure fundimentals. The only thing I did not understand is what movement is made in order to transfer pressure from the downhill ski to the uphill ski in the transition phase. Is the movement to shift weight when extending (effectively standing on) the uphill lski?

    Doesn't edge angle increase through retraction of the inside ski? U don't need to change the distance between ur skis, in fact it gets more difficult to get angulation if the skis are wide, and encourages more weight bearing on the inside ski which will make everything more difficult?

    This season is the first time in 15 years that I’ve used shorter skis and I’m an intermediate skier, who uses all pistes. The ski hire representative was insisting that I had my usual size and that I’d be changing the skis later that day. The difference was so apparent in that I was turning and moving through the moguls much easier and generally felt more confident and in control on all the ski area. Try it and if it doesn’t suit, go back and change skis. Good luck 👍🏻

    Whats the point of poles while skiing anyway

    • @hypothalapotamus5293
      @hypothalapotamus5293 5 месяцев назад

      The purpose of poles while skiing: 1. Forward propulsion (vestigial): Back in the good old days, skiing used to be a way of going from point A to point B. If you look at classic cross country skiing, diagonal striding takes advantage of the poles and double pole (which will beat diagonal striding on a flat hard pack slope) is entirely dependent on poles. 2. Stability(vestigial): Back in the good old days, skis didn't turn so good. If you screwed up, the poles could help keep you upright. 3. Sensor/timing queue: If I'm going really fast down a groomed slope and doing high G turns, the poles are like an ant's antennas giving me information on my body's position with respect to the slope. If I'm going down some moguls, the pole plant provides timing information that tells the rest of my body how to respond.
