1915 Myrick Eclipse Oilfield Engine
Got this engine going today. Its a oilfield pumping engine built by Myrick Machine Co. Olean NY. Made about 1915. 4hp. It is a hot tube engine meaning no spark plug. Just a glowing hot tube that ignites the gas. Designed to run on natural gas from the oil well. It runs better if you choke the air intake down to about 1/2 an inch or so. You'll see in video. Enjoy.

New video of the Witte Diesel. Got it set on a trailer. Dialed it in some more and think its close. Check out the throttle down. Look for more videos on this, I hope to turn it into a standby generator. Literature says "The actual consumption of fuel is one-half pint of fuel per hour per horse power".

Put a squirt of ether in it even in warm weather. Preferably through the compression release.
I guess they don't get hot enough for the exhaust to smoke?
Clean burning engine
Haus great demonstration. All common pipe fittings and a steam engine oiler as carburetor. What is the piston made from? Thanks Haus !
I have two a 1943 and a 1952
Put a big Chevy in it and some taller Hearst make it roadworthy !!!
This rig lives off road. Those old boys knew whats up. Slow down bud Lifes a journey take it in.... ha. Thanks for watching! Check back in on my hot rod build should be a ripper.
Oh man I love her already, will be subscribing and returning to watch your progress, also a bucket list project for me, I said I loveher because I always give them girls names, so does she have a name yet? Hope the rest goes good for you.
Awesome! Is that the submarine green?
Not sure. Had a door with original green on it. Took 3 parts Rustoleum hunter green to 1 part black and it was a very close match.
@@tractorhaus6072 You're having waaay tooo much fun!!!
There is nothing that sounds like a flathead. I have a 1950 Mercury, and I love driving it just to hear that sound
It don't matter what car it's in, nothing sounds like a Flathead. I'm a retired Master Goodwrench and a '51 Ford Tudor flathead was the 1st engine I rebuilt.. 2nd was a "53 ford NAA Jubilee... hundreds followed!
Premier acoustics!
What a glorious sound!!
What did you use for Timing Gears? Thanks!
No timing gear needed for this engine, visit mine. Channel for more information about this engine. I had also made this engine (sorry for my bad English)
Super light weight!
joder esto si es mecánica
I had a 52 Chevy pickup that had been a service truck at a gas station. It had a big curved plate over the bumper to push cars. In the days before plastic bumpers, I bet that pushing cars was 50% of towing work. Are those front and back tire diameters the same? If not I would stay out of 4wd :)
I suspect you are right. Most all the old wreckers seemed to have some sort of push bumper. Tire sizes are factory specs 6x16 front and 7x16 rear. I imagine it would sit about level with the original trenching attachment on it. It weighed a few thousand lbs. Also needed larger rear brake drums so you could stop the thing.
And what measurements are the length and height of the piston and cylinder?
Ho bore and stroke have the engine
Timing was off, drove one for years. When the timing is right ,they don't hesitate to start.
Nice engine but almost ran too long with no coolant. The 8BA was produced from 1949 through 1953 and the Y block OHV V8 was introduced in 1954.
Now that it’s gotten too hot and cracked the heads….😮
Digital gun said 190 deg
Smoooooth
Doesn't sound right
Ill mark it a win being the first start in who knows how long. Check back we'll get a rad hooked up and get it broke in and dialed in some more.
It was only the first start, my dude.
I'm sorry, but grew up with the v8s from the 60s and 70s, I'm sure it will be great
Sounds just like a Ford Flatty
Seems like the timing is slightly off. It's fighting itself to start.
I'll take two of those!!!!
Já trabalhei bastante com tratores, ainda gosto, porém, não compraria um John Deere justamente por conta desse arcaico sistema de partida. A posição do assento do operador também é muito estranho.
Built my own copy several years ago, and can fully appreciate the difficulty in getting one to run so well with the drip carburetor. Congratulations!
How much power do they make?
@@Maxb49not to much but enough for running engine
Yes very difficult to make this engine I had also made this type engine ,most hardest part of this engine is making proper fuel mixture
I have a papillon to her name is piper and literally she does that to
Looks like Ford used a glow plug? Didn't know that . Thanks.
No their is no glow plug it has spark plug
You have a spark jumping on the left side. When I was 10, my Dad showed me how to start his "D" on the first turn. We sed a "J" shaped small tube , with the long end in a bottle of gasoline we turned the engine back and fresh gasoline was sucked into the cylinder. When the flywheel was turned past the magneto the spark fired the fuel. Easy.
Why did JD stick with this old style technology, hand starting, or pony motors, and 2 cylinders when Oliver, and others, were using inline 4's and 6's decades before them ?
Simple answer is... it just worked. Big cylinders get big power. By late 1930s John Deere D drawbar hp is 35 to 38. Oliver 70 with 6 cylinder drawbar hp was 28hp. Less complicated answer is farmers aren't fond of change. If it works and you know how it works then keep it up as long as sales stay up.
Sistema de partida desses tratores é muito complicado! Xom tanta tecnologia e um negócio desses?
Dad's had the riding sulky. He said if he wanted to walk he would have used a horse. They were a beast but you could turn over the soil.
wunderschön , kann man sowas kaufen
What is the shape of the fuel inlet Valve?
It has 🏀🏀 ball type valve system in. Intake valve , and spring type Chronicle valve for exhaust

Beautiful sweethearts😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
A dog after my own heart --& taste buds!
Very interesting old engine. Seems to run pretty good.
That is pretty cool.
That thing actually runs pretty good on two cylinders! 🤠
So, uncombusted fuel/air is now in tire...hmmm...new meaning for "blow out"? Or original meaning? 🤔
You didn't need "safety" in the 1920s...everything was dangerous.
It looks like there is a vent on the valves that screw into the cylinders, that opens up when the cylinder is on the intake stroke. This prevents the air/fuel mixture from entering the cylinders. In theory, anyway. 🤷♂️ It's probably just a really lean mixture entering the inner tube! 🤠
@@straybullitt Thats right the valve lets in some outside air. Still smelled like it had some gas in it.
I've been interested in these lately and I think yours is my favorite!
Well that would sure suck to havedo at -5 in the winter... but cool other wise..
They are humping around a lot. Backthen they didn't yet figure out how to proper counterbalance. Wears out bearings though.
Thank you, Were they manufactured the same year? We had one when I was a kid and we pulled a 2 bottom plow with it It had quite a bit power, but I never sure if it was an CC or RC.
Case RC 1935-40. Rated 1 bottom plow, Case CC 29-39 rated 2 bottom plow. Probably had a CC. They have a good bit of power to spare. Long stroke. Saw one pull at a show and it was impressive.
@@tractorhaus6072 Thank you, I'm sure it was a CC because it handled that 2 bottom pretty well. Wish I still had it.
What's difference between a CC Case and an RC Case tractor. Manufactured around 1938?
HP and size. RC smaller
Good old CC.
