KX250X Embarrassing Result
Time to hit the "Reset" button, get more seat time in and try another hare scramble. I'll be getting back in town mid March and will get some more riding in before the next race. The weather here in NC has been absolute crap lately so most riding areas have been shut down.

      Hey there. Yes the tank works good but I will be switching back to the stock tank for normal rides and only use the oversize tank for races. The OS tank pushed the radiator shrouds out a lot. One of the KX's greatest attributes is its so slim and narrow in stock trim. I didn't go with the translucent Acerbis tank because I like the black look but you can't tell how much fuel you have without taking the cap off.

      Hey there! Thanks for watching. The race did not go well. It was a complete mudder and there were some difficult sections that the mud made very unenjoyable. I smashed into a tree early in the race and after that I was dumping my bike all over the course. However, I freaking love this bike! The Yoshimura exhaust and Tokyo Mods ecu re-map made the power very linear. The stock black coupler was very lurchy down low and the white had too much of a "hit" for woods riding. In all, it's a great overall package for woods and track. For any real technical, hard enduro type of riding I'd get a 300 2-smoker.

    hate to ask this dumb question but...... I have an EGL A17 450 with very similar engine. I have the same two screen filters under the black bolts on the sides of the engine and the bigger one also, just like what you have. There is also what appears to be the main drain plug at the bottom of the bike. Is this correct? If I only remove the three on the sides of the bike, I can see that all the oil comes out. Did you remove the very bottom (on the underside of the engine case)? or did you simple remove the three and clean and refill? Thanks

    • @nautiseaman9833
      @nautiseaman9833 3 года назад

      They are similar to Showa found on the 2017 generation Honda CRFs. For springs you would have to measure diameter and length then refer to guys at Racetech for a matching size with the spring rate you desire. Seals you'd have to pop them out and measure the old ones. Unfortunately, there isn't much documentation regarding wear parts. When you find the correct sizes and any other findings, pay them in here. I'm compiling a list of things that will hopefully help others in the future.

    • @nautiseaman9833
      @nautiseaman9833 3 года назад

      As far as performance parts go, SSR has a Pro Circuit pipe they offer though dealerships and MXRevival has the Lectron carb. For "OEM" engine and some other parts, go through SSR dealer or search eBay and Amazon for Zongshen nc250 or 300. Plenty of parts for maintenance and rebuilds when needed. GPX Moto also uses the NC250/300 so you can get engine wear items through them as well. Chassis and body are completely different though. Best thing to do is hop on Thumpertalk and go to the Chinese bike category. There you'll find everything related to the NC engine and the SR series bikes.

      Unfortunately the bike is a friend's and I have to give it back next weekend. That being said I like the bike. With a few mods it's a very capable trail & woods weapon. I put a set of Tusk handguards and a set of Tusk Recon hybrid gummy tires on the stock rims (21 front & 19 rear) for single track duty. The new tires made a huge difference in traction on rocky rooty stuff. I bumped the jetting up to 42 pilot and 172 main and that cleaned up the lean bog on the bottom and vastly improved roll on throttle response from down low. I changed out the thick stock fork oil to Mercon/Dextron 3 ATF (5wt equivalent) and that gave the forks improved action and plushness. I also added an FMF/UFO Plast single exhaust side panel on the left to slim down unnecessary bulk since this is a CRF250R copy that Honda uses dual exhaust on. A Pro Circuit slip on exhaust with spark arrestor (if needed in some areas) available from SSR directly so it'd be interesting to see if there's any performance gains over stock can. There's also a write up in the latest Dirt Bike Magazine about this bike as well so they're getting some recognition. Overall, for under $5k this is a helluva bike and a steal!

    • @nautiseaman9833
      @nautiseaman9833 3 года назад

      As far as reliability people swear about the durability if these NC250/300 motors. Parts are available on eBay, Amazon, SSR, GPX Moto, etc... If you're used to doing your own bike repairs and maintenance you can rebuild the entire engine for way less than an Austrian or Japanese top end alone. Valve and cam chain adjustments are super easy. Plastics are 2017 era CRF250R.

    • @nautiseaman9833
      @nautiseaman9833 3 года назад

      @@justinlloyd9342 The SR300 power is very linear much like a KDX without the 2 stroke hit. I know the KDX hit is nothing like an MX 2 stroke but the SSR is very luggable. It gets traction everywhere. The power curve is almost electric like and likes the mid range of the band. It doesn't rev up very quick but that's what I like. It won't get you into trouble - very forgiving. The power is more like an XR250R vs a modern, high strung, fuel injected 250f. For less than the price of one KTM 450sxf you get 2 bikes that normal people can ride.

    Nice video, helpful. Thanks! You mentioned you found the service manual, where did you find it? Also, noticed the rear suspension linkages are exposed, the skid plate doesn't reach that far back, and I could probably use one from a Japanese similar frame. Would you know if this frame is same or similar to an old CRF250 ?

    • @nautiseaman9833
      @nautiseaman9833 3 года назад

      It's not a service manual per se but an owner's manual that covers general bike operation and light maintenance. A PDF is available on SSR's website as well as a PDF for oil changes. However, the oil change is on a different bike with a different main oil filter and cover but is still a zongshen NC250 engine. Most servicing is done by trial and error and folks like us sharing the experience. I'm going to do a fork service vid shawtly as well as post some single track riding I've done. Regarding a skid plate, i have an older crf250r to compare and the SSR frame is a lot larger due to the size of the zongshen engine. The bottom end is larger than a crf450r's so the bottom cradle is lower and longer as well as the down tube. Looks like the only real solution right now is to fab one from aluminum or buy a sheet of HDPE and make a cardboard template then heat and bend it to the frame.

      The bike had held up perfectly and has about 15 hrs on it now. Starts up immediately and runs crisp and strong. Plastics are still new looking even after multiple tip overs. Added Acerbis minicross hand guards and will replace stock tires with a little more aggressive knobs. Overall, very satisfied with the bike especially at just under $600 shipped. The biggest improvement was the addition of the Fast Ace shock with rebound adjustment. Stock shock and spring (1000lb spring rate!) were garbage.

      @@robertoalvarez5281 www.ebay.com/itm/401926340537 The shock i put on was the same Fastace 275mm (10.8") as this but has a 250lb spring. There is also a guy on ebay (Pacificavecycles i believe) that sells 500lb and 600lb springs for this shock, around $13. I'd get the 500lb. The price of the shock has also gone up and availability has diminished due to the pandemic. DNM has a shock on Amazon with an 850lb spring for around $115. Hope this helps.
