    I'm trying to learn from your video if I can do the following thing. I'm buying a used GM IFS7.6 and will disassemble it for inspection. If all races and bearings are good, what steps do I follow to get the pinion back in. Working with a real small budget here. Thanks.

      Yes! You can use the hose as a level gauge! After some age though, it gets harder to see the level in the hose. We like to run a mix of water and purple power to help clean it.

    The general rule for installing an oil filter is... yes, lay a touch of oil on the gasket, however install the filter until the moment the gasket touches, then rotate one full turn, no more. This is plenty tight, and it will leave it ready to turn off upon the next oil change. Also helpful, get a Sharpie; write the date and the current mileage on the filter before installing it, and put it on the end cap so you can easily reference it.

    Ladies, don't forget to reinstall that drain plug and refill with the proper amount of oil for your car. I like to fill the new oil filter with some of the new oil so it doesn't have a dry start, and make sure the old seal on the oil filter is not stuck to the block. And make sure to check for leaks as you're filling as the drain plug or filter might not be tight or cross threaded.

    • @axleoffroad
      @axleoffroad Месяц назад

      Humming is a noise generated from a bearing. It could be that if the pinion bearing was changed, the pinion nut was over torqued.

      Sounds like the spider gears, if it’s an open differential. If you have a traction carrier, it could possibly be the clutches. You really will not know until you remove the cover and drain the oil to inspect. Thanks for commenting! 👍🏼
