Here is the first drone video of the new drop off point for Hurricane Helene debris - the Sand Pit. We started off wayyyyy away from the debris as I did not know how big the location was. We zoomed in to show the massive size of the debris pile compared to the excavator and chipper working. The houses in the backround are close to the edge of the Sand Pit and you can see where the sand comes fr...

A closer look at the actual size of the piles of debris collected from Hurricane Helene. We get to see a chipper actually chip a large log and the time it takes to move that one log through the chipper may be why the larger logs are being piled up to be chipped later. The normal debris goes through the chipper quickly but as we see the larger logs will take some time.

Not much work going on here as most of the workers have gone home for the Holidays. There seems to be someone parked at each entrance to keep people from wandering around and getting hurt by falling debris. In one of my previous videos there actually was a person walking through the piles of debris. If you like these videos please give me a 'like' and subscribe if you have not already.

We are back at Eisenhower Park where a great deal of the Hurricane Helene debris has been deposited. The workers have gone home for the Holidays but the debris remains. The large open area that has been cleared of debris is for the Augusta National to use for parking during the Tournament. If you like the video please give me a 'like' and subscribe if you haven't yet.

Here we are back at the JBA demo project. Progress has been made on the West side of the arena and you can see the interior structure of the arena being taken down. The roof collapse has air conditioner units hanging I believe on the mezzanine level of the JBA and did not fall all the way to the main floor. The entire structure will have to come down and I will try to keep you updated on the de...

Another update on the debris collection and removal from Hurrican Helene at Eisenhower Park. You can see two different types of machinery that chips and grinds the debris, although neither happens to be working on this day. I realize these machines need a lot of maintenance and that seems to be what is happening at this point. Please give the video a like and subscribe.

A drone video of Hurricane Helene debris collection at Fleming Park in South Augusta. Debris is still arriving at Fleming Park and being chipped. In this video I did not see a chip truck but the large logs seem to be separated out and I don't know if they will be chipped or just moved to the land fill as is. I hope you enjoy the video. Please like the video and subscribe if you haven't yet. Tha...

Lake Olmstead Baseball park Hurricane Helene debris update but there is nothing going on machine wise but there is an observer thaking not of just what is going on at the old ballfield. I would have thought the City would have put up some gates to protect itself from anyone getting hurt withing the debris areas. I guess not. No equipment at the park either so this Thanksgiving weekend is time o...

I would venture to guess the sand is/was used to make concrete (it probably was used to build all those houses). Believe it or not, sand for making concrete is the 1st natural resource a lot of the world has started to run out of. It's interesting to look into but scary.
Is there a co-gen plant around?? My local military base burns between 60-100 tractor trailer loads of wood chips per day. I see a lot of heat here the gov't (tax payers) have already paid to process.
Good thing this isn't around graduation or summer time. I just picture the biggest bonfire ever!
It's sad to just think of all the OAK flooring, cabinet wood, and firewood going into mulch.
This style grinder is called a "tub grinder". The circle drum rotates and runs the debris against a hammer mill that shreds it into mulch. Your right about using it on larger diameter debris and also good for stumps. If it can fit in the rotating drum it can be turned into mulch. They do not like long debris though. The other grinders you have videoed are all called "horizontal grinders". They use a steel conveyor belt to feed the material into the hammer mill. They are good for whole trees, brush, and long logs. They have a smaller infeed opening depending on the size of the machine. The debris has to fit in the infeed to get chipped. Horizontal grinders are faster at mulching but can't do whole large stumps or really large tree trunks. There are many different makes and models (sizes) of both machines that are on the market. The one in the video is a larger model Vermeer brand. They make a four axle version that is their largest model.
In all the videos iv watched and its been a loot ,and in seeing all the massive amounts of debris ,logs in particular i thought it could be cut up and stacked ,seasoned then used for firewood ,i mean it could be sold then the proceeds could be put back in the community or the state ,a shush fond of sorts later down the road. And as to all this mulch where will it go after this point?
Wow!
Packing the material down
Where is this?
They should have taken some to Mr Diggs landfill he makes mulch out of it with his big Rotorchopper machine.
The front wheels were just slipping sideways making putting it where they wanted it.
Tub grinder
Grinder
It's not called a grinder but a chipper.
This one is a tub grinder. There's a big difference between a grinder and a chipper.
Aktually... 😂
Has the county given and estimate on how much debris is left to be picked up and transported to these areas?
Yes - they have said somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 Million cubic yards with much more to come. Columbia County actually was hit harder but I don't know their projected total.
Lee, thank you for providing these videos. A friend thought you had done a drone video of the damage on Oberlin Road near Walton Way, but I have not been able to find it or maybe I am not searching correctly. Did you have one of Oberlin?
I do not but would need someone who lives near there to allow me to launch from their property as I do not fly the drone without permission from the homeowner where I launch from.
@@leepowelldrones7103 Another question, it seems like in your more recent videos that you film with the drone, then afterward, add your voice as narration. What software do you use or how do you do that? I am asking because I just got a drone and very much a beginner and seeking to learn. Thank you.
@@timc63 PM me on facebook with your email and we can talk. My drone is a dji Mavic Air 3 and I have an FCC license to fly drones.
Great shots....tHanks for showing us aruond
Those air handlers are around ten feet tall. It's interesting to see them clinging to the roof structure instead of tumbling down. I guess the installer did it right. I suppose the arena's metal skeleton would have made explosive demolition more difficult so they are tearing it down bit by bit with excavators.
Anchorage AK 12-24-24 9am AK time .....Thank you for this update ....progress is GOOD to see ...the task is MONUMENTAL 🙏 🙏 👍 👍 🇱🇷
I still appreciate the updates, it would be cool if you could fly right around the level of the debris pile like you mentioned. Could get a closer look at the machines too. Might need to be a day nobody's working though 😅
That is exactly the plan but there are 'guards' at each entrance. I will try to make it happen.
The new machine is definitely a tub grinder. They tend to do better with stumps and large logs but can be slower with light material, and might need it cut shorter. They can also throw large pieces really far out of the top. They've fallen out of favor since horizontal grinders (99% sure that's what the chipper is) are definitely safer and usually more productive.
Why aren’t they making lumber with those big logs
Had no idea this was going on! Will there be a new one somewhere?
The JAB is being torn down so a new one can be built in the same place.
Yep they say it's going to be up around 2027.
I've had some really good times in that arena. I used to go to every WWE show I could go to. Now I have to go to Atlanta for the time being lol I cannot wait until the new one is up, that big shiny silver arena is going to look so nice
The bridge going to the V.A. opened yesterday. Don't have to go around any more.
There has to be a market for the chipped material, seems odd to just toss it in a landfill.
I am sure there is a market for 'clean' chipped material but the contractors have said this material is 'dirty' as it has different types of trees comingled along with some construction debris and maybe even some wire from the telephone poles that were knocked down.
Probably body parts in there sadly.😢
Can't they send the bigger logs to the paper mills
Thank you for this video! It is nice to see how NC is cleaning up the tree debris. God Bless the project and truck drivers.
The Hurricane Helene debris drone videos are of Augusta Georgia which was devastated by Helene. So far over 2 Million cubic yards of debris has been collected with much more to come. Augusta will never be the same with the number of trees lost. Most local golf coarses have lost upwards of 1000 trees. Our Summers will now be much hotter as we will not have the trees for shade.
Hopefully they can use all the chipping material for erosion control in the future alone with other projects ...
So many poisonous chemicals in that it's awful. Already been reported on. Don't use this stuff around your house. Cancer, cancer, and worse.
Should be some nice snakes in there by spring
👍
Very interesting
Maybe they are saving for firewood
GMC 3500 Dually....
I'd asked on another vid about the wood chip market and then looked it up. Not sure how robust the local area involvement is, but there's a lot of money globally: (quote) The size of the global wood chips market was valued at USD 11.73 billion in 2023. The global market is anticipated to reach USD 23.06 billion by 2032 from USD 12.64 billion in 2024, growing at a CAGR of 7.8% from 2024 to 2032. (end of quote).
Good to see it getting done. Saw a video where one county had only gotten 4% of their debris picked up after 10 weeks. I have to assume the county was just overwhelmed with the amount of debris. I wonder if there's a market for the chipped material or if they just haul it to whoever will take it.
The chipped debris is not being offered to anyone as it is classified as 'dirty' which means it has many different types of trees in it and even some construction waste.
ALL THAT WOOD IS CONTAMINATED......DO NOT BURN OR USE THE MULCH. POISON. All kinds of dangerous chemicals. Fact
Would logging companies want those long trees
Most likely has to much dirt and sand in the wood which would raise hell with saws and machinery !
Greetings from New Zealand you are doing a great job that chipper dont stop for nothing Play safe be safe all BP NZ
Please don't sing just do the video thank you
SUCH WASTE! Those logs could be milled into boards. IDIOTS
Good base for reseeding grasses to stabilize hillsides and slides.
How can they be freezing with all that wood
Sir that is some great footage.
FYI that is not a chipper. It’s a horizontal grinder.
it's the woodchippers Bigger brother!
It's probably a Rotochopper unit, huh? Those thing's are awesome.
Would like to know the economic viability of using the trees for something other than filling up a landfill. Same with the wood chips. Maybe it just doesn't pay, I just hate to see it wasted.
Wouldn't it be able to use for landscaping?
How many sites are there and does each one have a chipper like this one? I saw the Hyde park one already. Curious how many in total. My mind insists they'll catch up, but the amount of debris has to be incredible. Also curious about the source of funding for the workers, whether it's state/county.
Remember everything there is contaminated with toxins and radiation. 😮
Oh my goodness! Holy Cow! That person walking gives us a really good perspective. In times past, there might have been a bonfire to burn it.
I at first they would be burning it down
