This is one of those albums that I came to enjoy more and more the more I have listened to it. Soulful, honest, open lyrics. So many good songs here. I do have an issue with the mix in that I feel like the low-end isn't as present is as I would like it to be. Note it might be the systems I've listened to it. I have wondered if the *sound* of the album might be a nod to the west Texas locale of where it was recorded. I've had this one on repeat for a few weeks now.

I love this album. They have become very mature and honed in on their sound. Calling them a second rate Pearl Jam is wild and k ind of insulting. They have stayed relevant for a long time and still headline festivals. They’re pretty great. The live show is better than the records too. Walls is their worst by far lol.

2:24 "all the songs sound similar" so you think the alien abduction synth pop Down Bad sounds similar to the western sounding I Can Fix Him? you think the folky The Albatross sounds like the electronic bop I Can Do It With A Broken Heart? You think the piano heavy The Manuscript sounds like the Florence + the Machines collab song Florida!!! ? You think the country pop But Daddy I Love Him sounds like the electric guitar song Clara Bow? 😅

I love The Prophesy! I find it so heartbreaking and honest. I have to say that you have to give the album another try, but this time don’t do the songs in order. That changed things for me and I was able to enjoy more songs that I had dismissed the first time. There are still some songs that I don’t get the hype for, but that’s whats kinda great about the albums, she kinda gave a bit of pop, synth, folk and even some country-ish that may speak to some people’s preferences. 😊

Yes, totally agree. That was our general sentiment that it would be much better re-arranged and compressed. But alas our criteria "is the album good?" which means we listen in order as the artist intended. - Alex

I didn't finish the episode. But from what i heard, it sounds like the concept and album completely went over your heads. And that's ok, some people don't have the range to go into the cultaral aspect of it. One thing you need to know is that Beyonce is very intentional with her art. Blackbird being an example, Paul McCartney wrote that song for Black women during the civil rights movement. And the album is supposed to ve a mixture of genres "because genres are a concept" she says this in the album. It's Black exploration of southern roots and music. You didn't get it and that's ok

@@thecrossroadsmusicpodcast I'm a casual T Swift fan I'm 27 knew about her since 2006 when i was 9 my girlfriend got me more into her with folklore, Do y'all think All Too Well 10 minute version is the greatest written song of all time? Especially since she was 21 when she wrote it just released a shorter version first? I know there's songs like The eagles Hotel California, Bohemian Rhapsody,Fly me to the moon, Piano man, Stairway to heaven, Imagine by John Lennon A few Beatles songs, A few songs on rumors fleetwood mac Considered the greatest but all to well pretty phenomenal right? Whens your Red album breakdown coming?

@@TylerMartinez-jh2hy All Too Well (10 Minute Version) is a incredible song. Greatest written song of all time? No. This is probably a more nuanced conversation depending on your definition of greatest. But it would be difficult for me to put that song in my Top 100 songs by any reasonable criteria. Still just because it isn't the "greatest", it doesn't take away from its greatness. We probably won't do a Red album review since we try and stick with new releases but if there's enough outcry, perhaps.... - Alex

Marty Friedman stated in an interview that. He speaks in Japanese here, so this is an English translation of that. 'First of all, my overall impression was that the scale was tremendous. The overall production was world class and compromised nothing in terms of sound. So it's not at all inferior to albums by top artists like Imagine Dragons or Coldplay. It's a sound that anyone who hears it can smell that it's A-class. And although SU-METAL has been growing and developing up to this point, this time I felt that they are even more conscious and appealing as vocalists. The songs are full of cool guitars and cool riffs, but like the work of many A-class artists, I feel that the presence of the vocalist is more important than anything else." The former Megadeth guitarist seems to have the opposite opinion to yours truly.

    • @thecrossroadsmusicpodcast
      @thecrossroadsmusicpodcast 10 месяцев назад

Marty is one the greatest! I'm not saying I disagree with any of what he said, in fact it's all correct for the most part but it doesn't really change my thoughts on this album. (Alex)

I side with @road-runner here. Just take 5 minutes and watch this link to one of their LIVE performances and if you like it read my information below it. Syncopation LIVE ruclips.net/video/Odb9Zy0YdOc/видео.html BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine. They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.) Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start. Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.

Thanks for your reaction pls allow me a little bit of fan/fun facts: this album was US mainstream oriented and some huge pop producers and sounds were selected to appeal specifically the US market where pure raw rock sounds like their 2nd album (which imho is much better than Rush) might be more niche. Maneskin members are very young right now the frontman is 24 the bass plsyer 23 and drummer and guitar player 22, if you are a nobody 20yo coming from Italy you have to do some concessions and follow the label leads to guarantee their sales hence the Max Martin card etc... Also these 17 songs have been written in a 2 year time frame they had about 60 unfinished songs which they almost couldn't work on because they were forced to go back and forth around the world after Eurovision for massive ptomotion they really struggled to put together the album and the name Rush is very representative of that situation and their feelings, they're aware that they must slow down to guarantee the quality of future work and to dedicate their time to practice and create. The Tom Morello sounds you find in other songs is not inspired by the song Gossip, nearly the opposite... Thomas the guitar player has always been a huge fan and experimented a lot with Wammy and Ebow Gossip is a Maneskin song Tom Morello only added his part at the end (you may refer to their live at Jimmy Fallon show where they play with Tom). Mammamia has nothing to do with Abba, it refers to the vety Italian saying and this song is about stereotypes: in their words "this is just a very silly.song" they wrote in a couple of hours coming back from Eurovision where the frontman in the after win public press conference was accused to have done coke on live tv just because his head was bowed on the table (whose surface was not visibile because covered by bottles and ice containers) while instead he was removing broken glasses from under his feet. Everything was clarified after he volunteered to undergo a drug test but the sting remained of having such a happy moment ruined by speculation based on prejudice. Anyway they're very ironic and prefer to joke with a silly song rather than hit the press who accused them. Last, but not least, Maneskin is 100% a live band, each of the songs of this album are way harder and better in their live performance, my suggestion, check out the hundreds of YT videos if you cannot attend one of their gigs. Anyway enjoy! 😊

I'm surprised you didn't mention "Mark Chapman".It's the third Italian song on the album and arguably the best of them all IMO. It's about celebrity stalking, check out the lyrics. And "Baby Said", I didn't like it at first but it keeps growing on me. As for "Bla,Bla,Bla" and "Cool kids", they were written for their live concerts. I totally agree that the album sequence (and number of songs) is totally wrong. Also, why downgrade and cheapen their music with that L.A. production? The best songs of the album were produced and recorded in Italy at an earlier time.

A fair review. I’m a big fan, based on their previous album Teatro d’Ira which is excellent Rock, and yes mostly in Italian. The band is amazing live. Saw them in Florida in December, huge energy, and an exceptional frontman with a unique voice. This last album is a little long, and eclectic, with some Pop sounds thrown in, but has some songs that are quite good, and others that are so so. They have hit the big time in Europe for sure, and are hard working, talented and edgy. The Queen reference is interesting, because as a huge Queen fan when young, I get some similar vibes. If their native language was English they would have been more popular sooner, as their Italian lyrics are often exceptional.

You are so lazy guys. OMG you can't even google about name of the band. There are three songs in Italian. And about Max Martin know literally everyone. You don't discover nothing new. It's so funny you are so young and don't have sense of humour, if you don't like bla bla bla i'm sorry you are boring boomers 😂 And only teatro d'ira is more heavy guys, there are english songs in it either. Their first album is more pop. Just check out their live gigs and you'll become fans. And you should try a little bit harder to make good review.

Mammamia as a title is actually a reference to the stereotypical expression of 'Mammamia', because the entire song makes fun of international stereotypes about Italians. (this is even clearer when you watch the video, where they make fun of stereotypes about bands hating their egotistical frontman) Thing with Bla bla bla that I've noticed is that people either really really like it, or they hate it. I didn't like it at first, but the more you get the joke of the lyrics, the better it gets, it just makes fun of a whiny guy who can't handle that his girlfriend broke up with him, and mocking that type of guy... Honestly, I have that with the entire album, that as you guys said, it gets better the more you listen to it. it's not a show off album like with progressive bands where people try to slam you in the face with overly complex melodies, that get annoying to listen to after a while. (there's a reason I don't like much of progressive rock) But that's the thing, the melodies in Rush only seem simple. (that and the songs all get ten times better once you've heard them live.) But there's complexity in speed and tempo, that's easy to miss on a first listen. As for the placing of the songs, what you mentioned about the slow song after a harder one, to me, that actually makes them better. To me personally, 'If Not for you' hits harder, exactly because it comes right after Kool Kids. The contrast just makes you pay more attention to the subtleties of ifnfy. Same for the contrast between Bla bla bla and Timezone... Curious what you guys thought of Mark Chapman.Since you mentioned only two of the Italian songs.

Mark Chapman's verses are rockin'. I could have done without the chous tbh. Still the overall song works. Thanks for all the insight! There's so many ways to approach the same piece of music. - Alex

Yep hated BLA BLA the first time through, now love it! Only song I can’t get to a like is Kool Kids. And yes their stuff is almost always better LIVE, meaning in person for sure, but also without the production. Much more of a Rock sound, and the Pop fades. I think the majority of the last album was recorded live.

Most of their songs take on a different level when played live. So energetic, great frontman.

Kool Kids works great with about thirty fans on stage at the end of the concert.
