I was a small young lad living in Ipswich during the seventies. I actually remember watching this. Jon Pertwee will always be Dr. Who in my mind. He was the best.

I like this story. It tried something different and it showed Romana's growth as a character.

I hated the year 1988 I was 19 years of age, and also I was not working in a proper job and I was earning pittance wages.

You got Sarah Green.. but with her as a Cryon was Faith Brown, who was a huge contemporary star of light entertainment

Martin Clunes in Snakedance would probably look like stuntcasting if you were watching it later , even though it obviously wasn't.

Sarah greene definitely counts as stunt casting , I suspect she was only cast so that it would get extra publicity on Supserstar. And Faith Brown in teh same story?

A few other JNT stunt castings : Nerys Hughes (Kinda) ; Liza Goddard ( Terminus - like Nerys Hughes playing a substitute companion when there are already three regular companions) ; Lynda Baron and surely of the worst stunt castings Leee John (Enlightenement). Arguably also Kate O'Mara as the Rani. Surely it can't be coincidence that two of the main stars of Blakes 7 , Paul Darrow and Jaqueline Pierce both appeared in seperate stories in season 22.

At the time of broadcast, I was so easily scared by the Daleks that I was just overcome with relief that one episode ended with a non-scary cliffhanger.

Daleks should say "bugger" more often in my opinion. I would if I were them.

Ainley does indeed look like he's touching cloth. It makes no sense why The Doctor trips the nerve gas in front of The Rani's Tardis if he knows it's booby tra pped putting him & Peri in danger. I dinnae av the strength to lift a toby! 👍

It's a good story, but not a classic. Leela certainly kept the male audience watching 👀👍

I agree with you, this is also one of my favourite Pertwee stories. Spielberg was clearly inspired to do Jurassic Park because of this 😉👍

I love these films. Great memories of watching them as a kid when they were shown on TV. I've got the music soundtrack which some people dont like, but it belongs to thesr films 👍

It really is good, isn’t it. I remember excitedly watching this for the first time on the BSB Doctor Who weekend and was overjoyed.

It does look cheap but it's probably my fav multi Doctor story. The jelly bean guards are pretty bad, but we didn't know any better as kids. Troughton is a joy to watch and great to see Hartnell one last time even if he was locked in the Tardis cupboard 👍

I like Destiny of the Daleks

My earlyist memory of Dr Who is watching the repeats of this & City of Death in summer 1980 on a portable b + w TV. Aparently The Daleks on location were moved by the actors shuffling their feet because the wheels got stuck in the sand 😂

The story is great if only for the maggots!...lol Seriously, what I remember most about the story is the dinner at the end where the Doctor sneaks away lamenting having to leave Jo behind.

Not my favorite story as it drags quite a bit in the middle but it has that great improvised scene between Sarah and the Doctor at the end so it's must viewing if only for that. I also like Liz Sladen's acting under mind control quite a bit. Prefer the female Eldrad to the regenerated male one. Great jokes...I was quite entertained by your review...more so than the serial...lmbo

The original script for this story, was better and in the original script the planet of gold was nameless and the inhabitants were human gold miners instead of alien Vogans and the Cybermen were also better portrayed in the original script. and also there wa no location work in the original story,

The go cart was clearly unhappy. A very good story, great music score by Dominic Glynn. Happiness will prevail 👍
