Rockhounding at beaches, rivers, creeks, and mountains in the PNW
Rockhounding Tacoma - Slim Pickings!
In this video I visit several locations around Tacoma including Owen Beach, Maury Island Marine Park, Dick Gilmore Shoreline Park, Browns Point Lighthouse Park, Dash Point State Park, and Chambers Creek Regional Park. The churn around Tacoma is pretty low and I didn't time my visits to the tides very well, so I didn't end up finding much material. This has been my typical experience in the area, however, and I'm somewhat skeptical of reports of people easily rockhounding agates and other high quality materials. I found a few nice pieces of jasper and a piece of carnelian on Vashon at Maury Island Marine Park.

Rockhounding Whidbey Island, WA - Fighting the Tide for Jasper!
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.2 года назад
I took a trip into the heart of Puget Sound to do some rockhounding on Whidbey Island. I stuck to the west side on the northern end of the island, rockhounding at West Beach County Park, Fort Ebey State Park, and Joseph Whidbey State Park, and mostly found jasper. High tides lasted for most of the daytime hours so rockhounding was somewhat limited, but there is always good material to be found ...
Rockhounding at an Active GOLD MINE! Secret Location Produces Gold, Agates, Jasper, and More!
Просмотров 8672 года назад
I was fortunate enough to be invited to rockhound at an active gold mine in an undisclosed location that the owner has requested I not disclose or share. In an impromptu visit, I spent a few hours exploring the property in preparation for future visits, and surface picked some interesting material, ranging from gravel size to a yard rock or two. The end of the video features some of the impress...
Rockhounding the Strait of Juan de Fuca - Where the roads are (LITERALLY!) Paved With Poppy Jasper!
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.2 года назад
I took a trip out to the Olympic Peninsula and did some Rockhounding on the beaches of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the inlet to the Salish Sea. An inconvenient tide schedule and early sunsets limited the amount of time I had at the beaches, but I still managed to find the crown jewel of the peninsula, Olympic Poppy Jasper, including some small specimens in an unexpected place. I visited several...
Rockhounding Greenwater, WA Part 4 - Bushwhacking in to Middle 28 Mile Creek
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.2 года назад
I spent my final trip into Greenwater of this season wandering the Greenwater River and wrapped up by bushwhacking in to a section of 28 Mile Creek I haven't explored before. I found some jasper, some agates, and some big pieces of quartz, but the terrain became too difficult to traverse to make it to the upper or lower portions of the creek. #rockhounding #pnwrockhounding #rockhoundingwashington
Rockhounding Damon Point Fall 2021 - Olympic Poppy Jasper & Agate
Просмотров 7942 года назад
I finally had the chance to spend another afternoon out on Damon Point in Ocean Shores, WA back in November. This trip was shortly after a big storm had hit the PNW, in the midst of the wettest Fall on record, and a large amount of sand was deposited on the beach. I still managed to find some really great pieces of Olympic Poppy Jasper and agate. #rockhounding #pnwrockhounding #rockhoundingwash...
Rockhounding Greenwater, WA Part 3 - The Old Slope & FS-72
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
I returned to the National Forest outside Greenwater, WA for more rockhounding, this time I started off with a trip to a spot called The Old Slope along the former path of FS-70. Later, I did some rockhounding on the upper part of FS-72, visiting a campsite with a view of Mt. Rainier, a quarry where I found some excellent mineral samples, and some more spots down along 28 Mile Creek. #rockhound...
Rockhounding Greenwater, WA Part 2 - Finding a Brand New Spot for Red & Black Agate!
Просмотров 9 тыс.3 года назад
I visited the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest just outside Greenwater, WA again for some more rockhounding. While scouting above Pyramid Creek I discovered a new spot with some stunning red & black agates as well as what is potentially petrified wood. I also explored around George Creek and the upper George Creek Cliff spot and found some agate, jasper, and what may be some common opal. The ...

Rockhounding the Quimper Peninsula, WA - Port Townsend, Marrowstone Island, Indian Island
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 года назад
Rockhounding some beaches on the Quimper Peninsula in Jefferson County, WA. I was mainly just prospecting so I didn't spend a ton of time fully exploring every beach, but did manage to hit up North Beach in Port Townsend, Fort Flagler on Marrowstone Island, and Lagoon Beach on Indian Island. I found a few interesting pieces of jasper and quartz but struck out on agates. #rockhounding #pnwrockh...

That rock that you claim ia your favorite is awsome! That the one that got ya hooked!
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing 👌
That jasper is beautiful
Everytime i go to this area all the good camp spots near creek are full. End up way up the mountain and dont find much. Do you have any suggestions?
I went to same spot in the book and didn't find much. Found what I believed to be a stolen vehicle abandoned and a bunch of trash from someone squatting
This is great. Thanks for this video
4:56 wow nice dark blue rock! 💋
Fort Eby?
West Beach Whigby pretty for wigs.
28 mile creek is not easy to access. My wife and I made it down there once but she wasn't having it once we made it.
I pulled #75 lbs of various rock and agate boulders from San Juan this week. Lots of different Jasper, agates, unakite, porphyrite granite, pudding stone, and a whole lot more. I went to Forth of July Beach, South Beach National Park, and I also did West Beach at Deception Pass before I hit San Juan. Every place I went filled my rock bag with 25 lbs of rock. I’ve been doing this for years and I’d say San Juan and all the islands are my favorite place in Washington to Rock hunt with the huge variety. I’m from Oregon and live in Springfield. I have my spots not to far from my house where my son and I mine gems out of the mountain cliff, and at a cool hiking trail park near my house. I live right next to the mountains off the 126 hwy that goes up to the McKenzie River. I’m surrounded by the McKenzie River and Willamette River. Some of the rocks from the Islands are not indigenous to the islands that have came in by glaciers from Canada. One in particular you can find at West Beach at Deception pass is called Jack Ass Conglomerate which is pretty rare. A lot of the rocks are igneous rocks.
Your favorite rock will never be beat! Awesome.
at 27:17 with your green jasper... it looks like you have tenaitite with it. which is the black matrix
and keep those blue agates out of the sun. they will turn grey if you don't
check out old guy adventures.... he runs into blue agate himself. And I believe he's from washington himself.
I believe he calls it ellen blue
to clean up your rocks you might want to soak in citric acid to get a better look at your specimens
It is a great walk from Owen Beach, although at this time of year the low tides are at night. To walk all the way to Point Defiance, a +3 tide or lower is best. At about +8 feet, most of the water goes all the way to the base of the bluff (and the tides move swiftly--so don't get caught wading in them). Nonetheless, it is great to walk on a sunny day in the winter.
another blast from the past
Nice finds
@ROCKINWHEELERS 0 seconds ago We came across this video of yours, liked it so we subscribe to your channel. We are Disabled ♿ ♿ ♿ Seniors with OUR 47yr old SON who is a Tetraplegic. We recently became RockHound and Lapidary. Anyways we just RockHound around our neighborhood and areas we can trek that will allow our electric wheelchairs to operate. Now just to get ready is an adventure in itself-hehehehe. So, we mainly purchase Rocks but have to watch our budget-due to Retirement income being fixed. I copied and pasted from first video we watched.

The zeolites esp the pink heulandite looks amazing. I am heading there next weekend and hope to find some heulandite.
Tried Carkeek, but the sign by the ramp that leads over the train tracks say to not remove anything living or non-living from the beach, so no rock collecting allowed there.
I'm thrilled I found someone in my area that uploads! I live around here. I just started really getting into this and would love to learn how to identify what I have found. I got a rocktumbler for my birthday and have been going out looking for fun things to tumble! Thanks for sharing your adventures! 🥰
I found my way out to the old slope this weekend, dug 2 holes between 2 days and filled my bucket. Thanks for the awesome videos and telling how to get to the spots. The video really does no justice on how big, steep, and intense that landslide really is, I was dumbfounded and almost intimidated lol
I'm glad you made it out there, it's definitely a steep one! The material is worth it though
@@BlazeGoesRockhounding got a lot of white with tan and orange through it. Kinda looks like pictures I've seen of picture jasper but not too sure
I did the same exact thing you did and I still haven't been able to figure out where it is after 3 times of trying. I am glad to see I'm not the only one!
I go shooting and camping around here all the time. Now I need to do some rockhounding.
Let me know if you do and end up finding anything good!
what do you do with your rocks when you get home? Do you tumble them? Also how do you like to display them? I have so many that idk what to do with lol
I'm not currently able to display or tumble my finds unfortunately, though I have in the past. Right now I also just have way too many, but I am hanging on to a lot of my rocks so that I can use them for knapping in the future, and maybe do some lapidary work as well. I've found myself becoming a lot more selective in what I bring home as it piles up.
new to rockhounding. @ 2:10 I've been finding lots of pieces that size of same looking stuff out near ebey's landing. Was told it was brecciated green jasper? Any chance you do identifications?
Hi, I don't know much about rock ID or geology so take this with a grain of salt, but that particular rock didn't feel like jasper to me. It may have had a little bit mixed in with other materials, but from what I know a pure brecciated green jasper will have a waxy feeling to it. The breccia will look like the rock has been smashed and glued back together with another material, usually quartz or agate.
@@BlazeGoesRockhoundingI have a cool piece of that Green Breciated Jasper I found yesterday at Deception Pass on West Beach. It was actually the first rock I had found when I got there.
Stop broadcasting the hidden gems of our local backyard, it's not fair to the people who have been relishing the agates long before you ever found any!! Think before you post please 😊
Oh, shut up! They aren’t your spots. Unless it’s on your private property, shut it. Hate people like you.
one last thing inspirerer, check the shapes like those jaspers, spleen, livers, and everything fossilizes. That's me recent shares. thank you. SELF I WHAT AM I THAT THAT non-Duo rocks got feelings too hahaha adeiu😅

That's fantastic. I collect rocks from every vacation. You are so lucky to live there.
Welcome back blaze!! Excited to see the new video and hopefully more to come!!
Thanks for tuning back in!! I wish I could say that I was going to be dropping lots of content but it is unfortunately going to be more of a drip here and there for now. Give me some time though and I’ll be back!
Well made video, very enjoyable to watch your adventures!
Thanks for watching, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it! It’s rare to have a day as good as this one was!
At the beginning of the video, you said you were looking for a spot that is mentioned in one of "the books". Would you mind sharing which books? I'm just getting into rockhounding and would love to pick up some resources! Thanks for the videos! I love seeing what you find! I live in Orting. . . so I definitely plan to hit some of the spots that you hound in!
Thank you for watching! The spots in this series of videos that I mention being from a book are in Rockhounding Washington by Lars Johnson. Pierce County Library System has some copies of the book. There is at least one spot up in Greenwater that is mentioned in that book but I have not made a video about yet, and it has yielded some really beautiful rocks for me in the past.
Your agate and jasper finds are stunning 👍
Wow what a great opportunity ! So many beautiful finds 💯👍 Thanks much for sharing and taking us along😊
Thanks for tuning in! Hopefully this is just the first of many visits to this mine!
So that 4 x 4 trail is one of the most sensitive 4 x 4 trails in the state. Please don’t dig on it. Feel free to dig in the woods just not on that road. That is called the old Naches wagon Trail. Starts from where you started it from and goes all the way into Naches that’s what the pioneers used to take back in the early days.
Was that a blue agate at 9:30?
I believe so!
Very nice video Blaze.
Thank you, mysterious stranger!
