    I really respect this take. It makes great sense. I may ditch it someday, but currently, I find it easier to explain it to ignorant people inherently see it as cheating. I point out the "ethical" component to highlight that it is not cheating because the communication factor of it makes it ethical. To your comparison of not having to qualify monogamy as ethical, people rarely use the term monogamy when referring to monogamous relationships as that is the "status quo". I see most people hear nonmonogamy and their "status quo" understanding of nonmonogamy is cheating. Great points you've made nonetheless. You get a sub from me.

    Oh thank heavens! 15 months after the first D-Day and 6 months after the last D-Day (my husband of 30 years, who I now know has been a lifelong porn and sex addict) needed many months to overcome his feelings of shame and guilt and tell me everything). The last few days have been hard for us again because I was completely overwhelmed. Even though these phases lead to more emotional intimacy because my husband tries to be actively by my side, I want more control over my feelings. Thank you very much, I now understand more and already have ideas on how I can implement it.

    Nowadays, there's so much tips techniques and tricks that it's sometimes hard to know where to start. But it's not rocket science to get your man shivering with ecstasy just by changing the way you talk. As simple as this sounds, maybe try escalating it a step at a time, go’ogle something like Words od Desire by Celestine Dessike to sneakily crawl into his mind and let it build on from that.

    Is this an example where the person that withdraws should communicate that they feel overwhelmed and would like space to process their feelings before continuing the conversation? What should the withdrawn person do when their partner wants to continue the conversation vs honoring the request? Or is there something else that the withdrawn person should be doing during that type of situation?

    • @LaurenConsul
      @LaurenConsul Год назад

      Yes, this is an example where it would be very helpful for the withdrawer to communicate that they are getting overwhelmed and need a break. It can be helpful to validate and take a contained break: "I really want to hear what you have to say. I am feeling overwhelmed right now and can't be a good listener. Let's take a break and come back to this this afternoon so I can really hear you." It's also important for the pursuer to communicate their needs, because often it comes off as blaming, pushing, or nagging. The pursuer can say, "I'm feeling a little insecure and need some reassurance."

    • @grafartist
      @grafartist Год назад

      @@LaurenConsul That's really helpful insight. I was just apart of a relationship, that's ended now, where that was the dynamic when we'd have tough conversations or argue. I was more of the peacemaker/avoidant type and she was a hybrid but moreso anxious. I resonate with that feeling of being constantly blamed for everything and being pushed when I'd try to wave the white flag for a break. I've been in therapy for almost a year now and as I started to learn more about myself, I started to communicate when things felt like too much for me but sometimes it was ignored and we'd still have to have the discussion, which left me feeling depleted and as if my feelings didn't matter. I recognized that we both had tendencies of triggering one another (most times, not on purpose) and withdrawing at times but most times I was the withdrawer and she would be the pursuer. I definitely want to put that into practice moving forward because I know that I like to sit with my thoughts/feelings before communicating to prevent me from expressing raw feelings that could potentially hurt my partners feelings and sometimes make things worst. I truly appreciate your content. You're doing great work!

    This is nonsense, you and your partner should be on the same page when it comes to infidelity, and if you both believe it is a complete breach of trust then you should leave, that isn’t the person you want to spend your life with if you can’t even trust them with the most important things
