Are you referring to the initial releases that recycled the same animation throughout all the films with the only difference being the music?

Both products have been discontinued for almost a decade now. Diamond Select has stopped making Star Trek products on this scale entirely and Master Replicas was defunct for two years before this video was made.

You're right about those Blu-ray menus. They really were cut and paste menus. I always liked this one because even though it just uses clips from the film, it presents it in a different way. Just the raw sound effects without the music. Never saw these effects scenes that way before. And those Collector's Editions menus were fantastic. I think my favorite one was Star Trek: First Contact where it featured a non-stop battle with the Borg Cube.

@@Kalaida You're right,the ST FC menu on the collector ed. was awesome,my personal fav menu was ST3 collectors ed,with the bird of prey landing on Vulcan. I totally agree with you on ST2'S bluray menu, no music, ambient sounds of the electrical storms, very moody, as both ships hunt each other. Also the remastering of this bluray was top notch, from a 4k master.l am looking forward to seeing not only st2, from the new four film 4k boxset, but all the rest!

There is! The batteries can be changed in the lower compartment. They're hidden behind a compartment that looks like data disc holders that can also be seen on the top compartment.

While Wand is certainly good at the physical properties of of their replicas, I have had some disappointments with their TOS Phaser. Not only are the electronics completely shot (The phaser setting knob no longer registers) and the nozzle broke just after four rotation cycles. And this next Tricorder will have a whole LCD screen on a rotating box. It will be an endurance nightmare! I'm hoping for the best. It does look very ambitious.

@@Jupiter31416 Wand is still posting updates as the weeks go by. We actually got an update from them yesterday and they do bring up the display, but nothing too specific in regards to whether it's flat or rounded. "An example is the position and size of the display. The proportions of the hero prop display screen come from a previous age and do not match those of displays that are readily available today. Squeezing a functioning LCD in the predefined shape and space that Wah Chang determined for it, decades before the technology existed, was perhaps the most significant challenge." The good news is that judging by their 3D rendering they've been showcasing, it would appear that CRT like shape will be retained. Hopefully when this comes out I'll do another comparison review as a follow up to this one.

The benefits of not being a RUclips star. :) If I only had a voice that wasn't as horrendous as mine, I'd be doing a lot more videos. But as it stands, I stick with text.

The new updates from Wand have been very promising!

Unfortunately this model tricorder that Master Replicas' made was over a year ago and they have since went out of business. While a new Master Replicas has re-emerged this year, they haven't announced any Star Trek products so it's fair to say that the only way to get this replica is through other markets like eBay.

Technically these are replicas of props, not the actual props that were used in the show. If any of these were the real prop, they'd be worth a heck of a lot more than both these repicas combined.

Technically speaking these are all pretend! I prefer to spend my money on something that actually has a function AKA real tools! rather than expensive toys!!!

You can have it both ways. Get real tools with real functionality to create pretend toys. What do you think cosplayers or prop builders do? It may be pretend to you, but a lot of stuff in this world like toys and movies are a billion dollar industry. You may think it doesn't have real function, but sometimes we're not looking for something that has real function. Sometimes we just want to have fun. And I had a lot of fun playing with these toys and making this video.

If I could make a few points, The replica cost $450 when I purchased it in 2008 from Master Replicas, not $900. There are plenty of really good phaser replicas/toys available that are a lot cheaper than this. After filming this video, I wound up returning this replica because I didn't like how the company handled the electronics. Some collectors have certainly liked how it turned out, I didn't. If you think $900 is an outrageous price for a replica like this (It was actually $450), you should see how much Disney is charging for replicas from The Force Awakens props. Rey Lightsaber Hilt = $1,250 Kylo Ren Helmet = $2,000 Chewbacca's Bowcaster = $2,500 Darth Vader Helmet (Melted) = $3,500 As an added bonus, if you live in the United States and plan on buying the melted helmet replica (Which by the way is 3D printed), you have to pay an additional $540.58 shipping and handling, AND $160 in taxes. So if you think paying $900 (Again, $450) for a replica is some kind of effort to keep others out from buying it, consider those who would pay $4,200 for a helmet that they cannot wear and is 3D printed. At least this phaser had functionality to it.

Oh I noticed the 2000 toy swords. Don't think I didn't. Collecting is a hobby that I took part in because I enjoy it, not because I wanted to join some 'club' that looks down on other collectors. If you would like to discuss certain things like unfair prices or something that doesn't involve demeaning other people or making false accusations, I'm all for it. But if you're going to continue posting the way you have, we have nothing more to discuss.
