      @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer I like this video and will learn a bit of finger picking. But I want to learn how to flatpick or use a plectrum on electric guitar and acoustic. In the last 4 months, I improved strumming. Now I want to improve flatpicking. I think this is a larger task. But perhaps you could do a video on flatpicking basics with a famous doable riff. I can do simple rhythm guitar and want to explore lead guitar with flatpicking. Thanks for your interest. Richard Www.ShoshinGuitarist

    • @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer
      @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer 19 дней назад

      Hey! The thumb, 1, 2, 3 would only really apply to finger style playing in this case. Though you can play melodies and scales and single lines with this fingerstyle technique. Are you playing your scales and melodies with a pick?

    This is great video, perfect for someone new to fingerpicking like myself. I have a question about the timing. The first 2 patterns contain 4 notes each, so I assume they are simply played as quarter notes. But the third pattern has 8 notes, so then should it be played as eight notes? Or should it be played as quarter notes over 2 bars?

    • @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer
      @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer 28 дней назад

      @@Packethackscom1 Thanks a lot by the way and great question! It would be played as 8th notes in this case so…. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. It turns out being played faster so it’s a good challenge! You could do the pattern as quarter notes too and stretch it over 2 bars but it would depend on the song and how often the chords change. The same chord would have to hold for 2 bars as you know!

    • @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer
      @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer 28 дней назад

      I was just thinking… you could still play the pattern as quarter notes even if the chords change more often. You could break the pattern up with a chord change every bar.

    • @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer
      @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer Месяц назад

      Hmmm, 12 strings are tricky because you’re dealing with so many strings. You have to press 2 strings down at the same time instead of one… as you already know! I think you have to make sure you’re not touching other strings by mistake. There’s minimal room for error! Make a chord and go through each string and make sure it sounds! If you’re getting deadened strings, adjust your fingers so they sound! Take note that that’s where your fingers need to be. Start with easier chords then move on to more difficult one! Hope that helps!!

    I'm a 50 year guitar novice and I've always held my pick with my thumb and middle finger. I'm trying to break that habit and hold it with traditional fingers, but the pick always seems to go back to the middle finger. Is there a good reason to hold a pick traditionally over "my" way?

    • @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer
      @TwentyMinuteGuitarPlayer Месяц назад

      Do you do much flat picking or are you mainly strumming? I think it would be easier for picking accuracy and fluidity if you held it the traditional way! For strumming it probably works fine to hold it your way. I’m just curious if you’re picking…. if you're able to play the way you want and do what you want, I'd say just keep going but if you feel your technique is held back, I'd say start working on the traditional way. What do you think?

      Hey! Sorry about the confusion! Yes that’s right, just don’t play the low E or 6th string. Everything else is fair game. No, we aren’t muting the 4th string. That’s a D note and is the b3 of the chord. Very important note because it tells us that the chord is minor! You could play the Low E string. It’s not wrong but just doesn’t sound great in my opinion! Thanks for watching. Hope that helps!

    I These are ok tips for beginners however , am an acoustic guitar player and I would disagree with your choice of strings and picks .The coated strings give up on some tone and sound duller than uncoated strings in most cases As far as picks ,I use wide triangle heavy or stiff for strumming and picking , since I do both I do not have the time to switch picks in between strums .Light pics will give you a lot of pick slap or extraneous noises not coming from the instrument itself .

    You never mentioned the little finger. Do you keep it anchored to the guitar body or does it stay curled close to the palm?

      Hey! I wouldn’t recommend anchoring your pinky on the guitar. I’ve seen people do it and I’ve done it from time to time but I feel like it locks you down and slows you down too much! For me the pinky isn’t involved and I don’t think about it at all. Just let it stay curled close to the palm or let it go where it wants to goes naturally if that makes sense! Best of luck to you and thanks for watching!!!
