I want to use such a device with a plastic corner-cube reflector plate, which reflects THOUSANDS as much back in the direction of the emitter than a white paper-like surface. (See Lambertian reflector.) I want to measure 500, 1000, 2000 meters, with a resolution of 1 millineter . Problem is, I don't think the device will 'wair for' such a delayed reflection, even when it arrives late. And, of course, the display diesnt have sufficient digits to display this.

Im not able to wrap my head around why there are restrictions on the units available on the disto x4 or any laser measure for that matter. Why are there geo restrictions on the units just because im in a different country? For window coverings we need measurements in x“ x/x to the nearest 1/8. It makes absolute no sense..at least make it available as an option in the app..why restrict a professional tool?

I’m wondering if this is actually fast than your basic reel tape. I would’ve taken that measurement in about 30 seconds with a reel tape and screw drive sticking into the ground as a stake or just hooking onto the side of the house and accounting for the gutter drain. I’m thinking about making the transition to disto but unsure if it’s actually a time saver. Also, how would you measure the second story of a complex property with a disto

You’d want to measure the exact same spot on the fence both times at the same height with a level laser if you want a really accurate measurement. Older fences are rarely plumb.

Now that you have calculated the distance, it would be great to carefully measure the same intended distance directly and see what the margin of error is. I can see you were aiming inwards from the corner, something I would have done as well. But that should yield a distance at least 1 or 2 inches smaller. A better idea may be to mark points 12 inches or so inwards from the corner and then shoot those points carefully. Then add 24" or 2' to the resulting calculated distance. Finally, it seems these measurements work best when the angle of incidence between the laser beam and the surface is about 90 degrees or perpendicular, and the worst when the laser line and wall are nearly parallel.

could you measure in a picture the entire house? why not do that vs shoot past the wall to a fence then subtract?

Why state that you are going to measure a 90' distance and then show your result is 89.22'? It has nothing to do with distance between baseball bases. The claimed accuracy on this device is 1/16" and this advertisement shows 1-foot error. It's dumb from an advertising perspective.

Would the S910 be useful and accurate for drive-by appraisals in Urban or Suburban neighborhoods shooting from inside my suv? Say within 75 to 100 feet from a street? Sometimes I have public records data on living area size and sometimes I don’t. I currently use a D2.

ok, in the video I see that I can connect the disto to autocad and draw the measurements, but how to "transmit" the inclination of these points? most important question: can I connect an S910 disto to detect 3D points?
