    Well, sixteen years later and the hippies were right. The ice caps melted, flooded the coasts, the animals all died and were starving eating hemp and kale. If only they’d let this tree live! On the bright side, Donald Trump got his second term, Hillary was imprisoned, Michelle Obama came out of the trans closet and rush Limbaugh was reincarnated and is back on the air! I guess cutting down that rotten redwood was worth it after all!

    One positive thing about redwood...get a splinter?? Wait 24 hrs... squeeze and out it shoots...The worst thing about a redwood house is fire...old growth house will last longer than you and one clone

    Yep..spend a night in a redwood grove with high winds and pouring rain...take extra shorts you'll need em.....wind storm around Xmas 77-78 ... Oly and Judy Jensen...killed by redwood near pamplin grove...Ted Dewey...killed by redwood...both events on hwy36. I love the smell of redwood on a green chain...too bad it's been mismanaged

    I'm sure the old growth trees cut in the past were made into products that improved the lives of countless people, but maybe the ones that haven't been felled should be kept. There aren't many left, and it will take centuries for the newer growth trees to get anywhere near that big.

    This angers me. Without old growth forests you will not have natural medicines like polypore mushrooms that are anti cancer, anti tumor And anti inflammatory agents. Without these old growth forests you would not have them and they are becoming rare as a result. Would rather they cut second growth but not old growth.

  • @TheDewManchoo
    @TheDewManchoo 11 лет назад

    Actually, this is false. Old growth trees produce less seed, and less viable seed at that. They block out the sun, killing the seedlings that are trying to grow. Then, eventually when the old growth finally completely dies, there are fewer seedlings to take its place. And if loggers only took the small trees, there would be nothing to take the old growth's place. Your logic is flawed.

    There are regulations set that makes it damn near impossible to destroy a forest. Replanting, Leaving so far from the Creeks and Rivers no matter the size of the timber. It has to be left. A lot of those old giants are rotten in the middle. (NOT ALL) They are a great sight. Part of our History but their time comes also. And Trees are planted in it's place. They arn't as big as they use to be, never will be. But destroyed forests are not from loggers.

  • @myfavoritehome
    @myfavoritehome 11 лет назад

    Natural salmon runs have died out on every continent thanks to silt runoff from zealous loggers who always think they know what they are doing. (Multi-million dollar industry gone!) Old Growth Logging = UNSUSTAINABLE IN ALL INSTANCES. Cut the trees that you grow on your plantations, and keep saws off the old growth! If you want a healthy forest, let the proven fire and insect-resistant trees (Old-growth) be the ones to reproduce.

  • @myfavoritehome
    @myfavoritehome 11 лет назад

    I grew up in Humboldt County and loggers make their agenda known: 1. CUT THE BIGGEST. 2. CUT IT ALL 3. CUT IT NOW If loggers would simply leave the largest trees, while harvesting the smaller fire-prone trees, the forest would get healthier each year because the strongest and best get to reproduce. Imagine what happens when the biggest and best animals are taken out of a herd and not allowed to reproduce. You get a smaller, weaker herd. I am bitter because I saw many forests destroyed.

  • @55Dodson
    @55Dodson 11 лет назад

    What the Hell is your problem with "the logger" type? Look around, Yes away from your computer or t.v. screen for a moment. Your life consists of things made out of wood, Paper and everything else produced from Timber. Loggers care more about trees then anyone else. It's their lively hood. they we leave so far from rivers and creeks so animals and fish can survive. Get a Life, go out doors. Get a real job. You couldn't physically log for a whole day. Fuck You.

  • @trlincorperated
    @trlincorperated 11 лет назад

    It's funny you say this since you have no knowledge what so ever of stand prescriptions or silviculture practices what so ever. Your just some arrogant fool who has watched three skewed view points on logging and have no real educational back round to anything in forestry ecology or silviculture.

  • @myfavoritehome
    @myfavoritehome 11 лет назад

    Loggers like these guys are easy to hate: they are ignorant, inbred, violent people. Hopefully when they eliminate all the big trees, logger children will expire in giant a muddy landslide after a long bout of starvation because all the Salmon died from stupid short-sighted tree-cutters who cared nothing about others or the health of the land. Obviously attractive people stopped having sex with loggers long ago, but that didn't work cuz look at these guys: each one uglier than the next!

    I am a woodsman (real axe man) and I also trap and hunt. There is a difference between responsible forestry and this irreparable nonsense. A real man only cuts snags and young timber. He doesn't have to over compensate his manhood by destroying nature.

  • @dictionaryzzz
    @dictionaryzzz 11 лет назад

    Personally I think a hands off approach would be better. Simply allowing the forest to age without any interference from man. People like to think their helping when actually they are hurting. Just leave the forest be...it has managed itself since the dawn of time.

  • @dictionaryzzz
    @dictionaryzzz 11 лет назад

    Ok but that doesnt solve the habitat destruction problem for all those species that depend on old growth

  • @dictionaryzzz
    @dictionaryzzz 11 лет назад

    I dont know about you but I have never seen a 50 year old live tree with cavities and hollows. Carbon does get released but its a very slow process, it happens faster when you burn it or cut it down/transport it. Think of all that gas being used...

    Preservation of large trees is more important than tha fun or profit gained from taking them down. If yer not concerned about tha removal of trees so massive and to never be seen agin than you prolly deserve a really bad cut or a widowmaker straight up yer hillfolk arce!

    The "earth muffins" were really fighting MAXXAM's approach of hostile takeover of timber company, then liquidation of the redwoods strip-mine style, running off with all the profit, and leaving PALCO bankrupt and everyone out of a job. The Earth First activist and the timber worker are fighting for the same thing. My grandfather worked for PALCO, my father was arrested in protests against MAXXAM's destruction of PALCO, and I'm studying computer science because the redwoods are gone.

  • @jp3d2k
    @jp3d2k 12 лет назад

    It's not the "earth muffins" fault you can't cut down old growth redwood trees anymore: fact is there's none left to cut. Less than 4% of the original redwood forest remains. If we went and cut that maybe we'd have a job for a few years, but then what? The "earth muffins" were/are actually fighting to save our (and future generations) jobs by harvesting in a sustainable fashion.

    So, Now that the industry has adapted and we are finaly getting to do a little bit of commercial thinning on public land, It's not just about saving the old growth now. It's about saving every tree in the woods. Hell, half of these thinning sales that come out get badmouthed by the local hippie yuppie groups. The bottom line is this, Enviromental whakos started with saving the old growth and now they're trying to run us out of our second growth stands and they'll use any means neccesary. IDIOTS!
