Side panel fix and cluster buttons update
In this short video, I am explaining an issue I found with side panel cushions and how I addressed it. I also briefly demonstrated how I arranged and implemented the convenience buttons.

My Suzuki V-Strom 650XT Farkles
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.Год назад
In this video, I am walking through the majority of accessories I have installed on the bike since I purchased it back in May 2023. After I completed filming, I found that I missed a few things (e.g. radiator guard, fork brace, etc.), but I will cover these in the follow-up video when I complete the modifications I have in mind. #suzuki #vstrom #vstrom650 #dl650 #farkles
Barkbusters Design Flaw

In this video, I quickly demonstrate the aftermath of my bike being dropped by the service centre, which resulted in a dent in the tank and I quicky analyse the root cause. Non-destructive installation of heated grips on Suzuki V-Strom 650XT
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
In this video, I am showcasing how I decided to install the Whites heated grips (also known as Koso Apollo in other markets) by using a spare throttle tube from Motion Pro. This way, all the original OEM parts are preserved and I can revert the setup back to the original state if needed. Moreover, in this video I demonstrate how I mount the control block for the grips, which is different to any...
The cleanest install of the auxiliary fuse box on a bike
Просмотров 3 тыс.Год назад
In this video I am sharing the way I wired up my auxiliary fuse box on 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT. No spliced wires in bike's harness, no loose wires, and minimal space requirements. I watched a large number of videos on how other people were wiring their fuse boxes, but I think my version is one of the cleanest installations. #v-strom #dl650 #howto #diy
Fixing a potential coolant hose puncture on 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT
Просмотров 322Год назад
2023 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is an amazing motorcycle (and, unfortunately, the last of V-twin engine models in the line up, being replaced by 800DE). As far as I know, at least Generation 2 [2011-2016] and Generation 3 [2017-2023] have a design flaw, which is known to Suzuki, but is not fixed: there is a risk of a coolant hose puncture due to vibration and the location of the components. In this v...

    Need to install relay for this fuse box?

    • @HikeWithABike
      @HikeWithABike 7 месяцев назад

      I did not. Why would you need a relay? If my understanding of electrical theory is correct, you use a relay when you want to decouple high working current from the control line. This fuse box is designed to handle 4 lines of 5A at 12V each (20A total). As long as your load does not exceed 5A per line, everything should be fine. If one of the lines is exceeding 5A, the fuse will blow and that's the whole purpose of these fused lines -- they protect your bike from catching fire.

      @@HikeWithABike thanks for the explanation, I'm looking to add spotlight to my scooter... All the tutorials I found on RUclips has relay that's why want to confirm. The spotlight uses 1.3A so I guess should be fine to directly connect to the fuse box 🙂

    • @HikeWithABike
      @HikeWithABike 7 месяцев назад

      1.3A at 12V is around 15W. I hooked up a pair of LED spotlights 18W each directly to the fuse box (no relay) and protected the circuit with 5A. The fuse is usually chosen a bit higher than the expected current, but not too high. You also need to consider the wire diameter you use: it should be rated higher than the fuse you chose. The summary is that I, personally, would not do relay if the current is below 5A. On my bike, I do have a couple of custom relays: one is for the extra loud horns - the horns consume 15A at the peak, so the control line comes from the button to the relay and the power delivery comes from the battery. The second relay I have is to switch off the ABS motor. People usually just hook a switch in line, but I wanted a bit more safety and used normally closed relay there (so, if the control line is messed up, I still have my ABS). Hope this helps.

    • @HikeWithABike
      @HikeWithABike 9 месяцев назад

      Will do a review this week, thanks for the suggestion. In short, I am quite happy with that fuse box, however, there are better (and more expensive options). I'll do pros and cons. I am not sure that would be able to handle full 20A, to be honest. However, for my stuff and on my bike it holds pretty well.

      Well, you can always sell it and buy a bike that fits you, no? I made my choice consciously and with all its limitations, this is the bike I enjoy the most at the moment. Could you elaborate a bit on what's wrong with yours?

      @HikeWithABike 9 месяцев назад

      Also, @rogerkay8603, I watched the video of your unfortunate crash on KTM. Are you sure that you ready for 650? I was riding 250 for quite a while and still, when I got 650 it was too big of a bike for me initially. I spent almost a couple of months practicing slow turns and emergency braking in a parking lot before I started to feel at least acceptably comfortable riding the public roads. In that video you published, there was no attempt to avoid the situation it seems (looks like panic just kicked in and you froze). Again, nothing wrong with it -- we are all people and we have our own circumstances, but, perhaps, you may benefit from doing a bit of slow riding routines in a safe environment? Just a thought.

      @thABike I also have an XSR900, so its not about engine size. Its physically too big/heavy for my use case so it's gotta go. I wanted something I could tour and commute on, okay for touring, no good for commuting in London.

    JFYI, I never delete comments whether they are positive or negative. The exception would be spam ones with no meaningful content. HOWEVER, it seems that RUclips just deleted all comments for this video. I do not understand why, since they were just about the motorcycles and not offensive in any way. @Frank Bonessa was one of the commenters and his messages were really nice. I think RUclips is relying on their ML filtering too much and there are lots of false positives. I am a bit sad to see all comments wiped out for a channel that is just starting. :(

    • @HikeWithABike
      @HikeWithABike Год назад

      Я так его достал, пластик не снимал. Он там просто изолентой прикручен к жгуту. Кстати, в оригинале, там заглушка, которую можно превратить в разъем если у вас есть два железных штырька (пина) от любого другого разъема подходящего размера. По крайней мере, я сделал именно так.

    • @HikeWithABike

      Я предпочел прицепить к штатному разъему, так как тянуть проводов меньше, плюс эта линия уже на зажигании и с предохранителем. Если повесите на батарею, есть шанс ее посадить (так как включить подогрев можно будет и на выключенном байке). Большинство подогреваемых ручек имеют защиту от просаживания батареи, но мне было спокойнее делать через штатный разъем.

    Unless that was heat resistant and vibration proof superglue you used, I can almost guarantee it will come loose within a few months and/or after a few heat cycles. The glue which they include with the grips is terrible.

    • @HikeWithABike
      @HikeWithABike Год назад

      If that happens, I will provide an update. The glue I was using was a standard cyanoacrylat which has the heat resistance of 82C. Should be quite enough for 60C these grips can get, but we will see, I guess.

      @MrDeepseadweller, you were correct -- it got loose after 6 or 7 months, so I am now looking for a solution. Got a good glue which is heat and vibration resistant, but the downside is that it expands approximately 4 times. Haven't found glue that meets the requirements and does not expand yet.
