After a cold night spent in the tent and some wet days in part 1 we are lucky to have 3 sunny days in a row of cycling on the EV6. Our mindset is like the road - up and down. We had a wonderful day cycling up and down hills on quiet back roads and we also followed a canal trail but it's the straight, open levee riding that is rather boring and has us questioning what we are doing and if we want...

      @@grahamsullivan1237 hey Graham - it was an amazing trip and I really miss touring but will have to wait until next year. The bikes performed really well. Just a couple of minor problems. A bolt on Robs front rack broke with about 3 weeks to go, which he was able to fix. We also had some noise coming from the front which Rob ended up diagnosing as needing to adjust the brakes and then all was good. The tires handled all the different road surfaces really well. I realized that my bike is too big for me and I actually rode it through the tour with my stem on backwards to try and adjust for a bike that's too big. Although it didn't seem to bother the handling and because I also had difficulty lifting my leg over the bar - I've traded it for a new bike - one that fits me. Lesson learned. Otherwise we think the TOUGHROADS is a good, solid bike.

A lot of planning was based around where campgrounds could be found. We were never turned away from a campground, so that wasn't a worry. Hello Les and Rob! Thank you for sharing. Yeah with cycle touring comes lots of highs and yep there are lows too and when you have those lows... you've just got to push through. Luckily, for us we can only recall one time when we both hit a low at the same time. It was about one year into our first world tour and it sucked. We had been pushing hard from Mostar towards Athens when in Meteora we cracked and it's not a good sign when both people hit lows at the same time. Petra came out of it rather quickly, but I (Ron) struggled for a couple weeks. In Meteora we took an extended downtime in a lovely campground, did some hiking, took a day bus to explore an area, and in the end cycled another 13 months. Cycling those levees can get boring, but you have to have those "boring" days to truly appreciate the not so boring days. You two may enjoy the EV6 from Ingolstadt to Budapest. There are some "boring" sections, but overall it is a very nice ride. Take care! ~Ron & Petra

    • @gogorobandles
      @gogorobandles 5 месяцев назад

      Hey there - I think the biggest contributing factor of feeling down at this time was the worry over getting Rob's passport replaced. The closer we got to Orleans the more preoccupied our thoughts became with this issue. It is nice to have a partner to ride with for the times when we need some encouragement and support. You've done very well only to have one time of this! You know looking back on these videos while doing the edits, I can't believe how beautiful and magical it all was. We are so lucky to of had this experience. As long as we keep healthy, we will keep riding🚲 and exploring.

    Hello Les and Rob! Happy to have discovered your channel and thank you for sharing your travels with us. Looks like we have a new channel to Follow along with and many new videos to go and watch. Many years ago we cycled parts of the EV6 from Budapest to Regensburg, then another time through part of France, and most recently we cycled it from Germany all the way into Bulgaria. As for squat toilets.... they're the best thing if you ask us for public restrooms. If you ever get over to Southeast Asia, you will be using them a lot. Safe travels and now off to watch another video. Take care ~ Ron & Petra

    • @gogorobandles
      @gogorobandles 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks Ron & Petra for the kind words. I agree- squat toilets are the best. What part of the EV6 was your favorite? We are not sure where to explore next time we travel to Europe (hopefully next year) there are so many great places to choose from. Enjoy your day🙂

    • @PedalPowerTouring
      @PedalPowerTouring 5 месяцев назад

      @@gogorobandles hmmmm... that is a tough answer. There are a lot of places we enjoyed and there are also spots that are boring, but it is what you make of it. Parts of the Loire Valley were very nice and had great facilities (campgrounds) that catered to cycle tourist. Germany and Austria have a lot of neat towns/cities, castles, and amazing scenery that you get to cycle through that are neat. After Budapest to Serbia is somewhat boring, but then in Serbia things get interesting again. The section we cycled in Bulgaria before turning south to Sofia was ok. Without going and looking through all your videos have you cycle any of the Camino routes? You could fly to Lisbon and cycle the Portuguese Way to Santiago or fly to London and cycle the Canal System (lots of fun with the long boat folks) or .... gosh so many many options. We could spend hours coming up with places to explore depending on your comfort level. We've pretty much cycled through every country in Europe from as far south as Crete to Nordkapp (North Cape) in Norway.

    • @gogorobandles
      @gogorobandles 5 месяцев назад

      @@PedalPowerTouring yes so many wonderful options. We loved Belgium for the friendly people and Germany for the interesting towns and beautiful scenery. There were times riding along the EV6 in France, especially up on the levees, that weren't too motivating but in general the section we rode was pretty good and well marked. The Boulangeries were our motivator 😁

    Hi L&R! Wow, you two deserve a medal! What a great adventure so far. We admire your determination and commitment day by day dealing with all the elements. We enjoyed seeing the EV6 route, so many unique places. The camp grounds look inviting and we were curious if you have power at the site to charge everything? We hope you had a good outcome at the embassy. We'll stay tuned for week 7! Great editing work too! Cheers, Tom & Suzanne

      Hey you two - thanks for the kind words. The EV6 is a beautiful route and stretches from Nantes eastward to the Black Sea! Lots of diversity if a person goes for riding the whole route. I hear the Danube section is stunning. As far as power, yes most sites have power available and you pay extra for. Also takes a special RV plug. Some of the campgrounds place cycle tourists in a big field where there is no power available. It was rare to have a picnic table available as well. We felt a lot of time was spent figuring out how to chair everything. We carry 2 power banks and 2 solar panels which helps but when the power banks need charging every few days, they take all night to charge. I think we need to research fast charge power banks maybe. The outcome at the embassy worked out just fine - it always does🙂 Take care

      Hey - no we haven't done a gear summary but perhaps should at a future time. We bought the table at Decathlon. It folds down pretty good - it will actually fit in my back pannier I've found. It weighs 1.6 kg worth every gram in our opinion. Instead of decreasing weight during the trip we added to our load with a few things. I don't regret a single thing I took along.
