    Thank you so much! Been watching a lot of games that appear poorly reffed and I appreciate knowing the facts.

    Shoulder to shoulder typically has a bounce off to the side, not a stumble forward or a fall forward

    Thanks for the grassroots series, all the other recordings that you have on RUclips from Covid times. I was new to being a ref last year ("Game Controller") for my son's Under 8's team, and have continued into this year with U9's. But it's been over 30 years since I played soccer, so whilst I knew the general rules, all your videos have been incredibly helpful. It's one thing to read the rules, but it's different interpreting them and applying them in a match. These have been really good. Clips, clips & more clips! And your help interpreting the scenarios too. Thanks for going to the effort in covid times, and saving them to RUclips for years later & everyone else. They are a really good resource.

    Consideration #8 is "Does the player touch the ball BEFORE making contact with the opponent."

    Even if a referee is within 10 yards of a play, being able to make a clear distinction between fair play and a foul is extremely difficult in a split second. We can only call what we see, even if it's on video, if the referee didn't see it, they can't call it. We also need to be careful with Simulation, deceiving a referee is also a big problem in older age groups.

    So the challenge is one of the most difficult things in refereeing, after seeing a lot of World Cup matches on TV. The ref needs to figure out if the one who falls in the challenge is doing a staged fall or dive (in this case, this would be "yellow-cardable" for doing a pretend injury), or does the one who falls or dives is not lying about it or deceives. In this case, look at the body language of the one fallen in the challenges, of the player. If the body language is truthful, he is not faking the fall, and usually the one who caused the opponent to fall is fouled or even carded (if the foul is serious).

    Thanks for this! My youngest daughter started playing and has quickly gotten good at dribbling in games. Now she`s getting hit, kicked and knocked down a lot. This helps me to help her play the game with awareness and with more safety. Looking forward to watching part 2.

    Outstanding webinar. A very thorough and complete discussion of how to brief in all the match officials and to set expectations. As a pilot, we always do a pre-flight briefing of any other crew members on the aircraft, and of our passengers too (“in the unlikely event of a …”). I love the idea of doing the same thing before every match, even if it is quick.

    I’d be curious how this presentation would change with the introduction of misconduct for team officials. Does your phrase change as the word irresponsible is no longer in the Rules of The Game?

    • @alanlee4526
      @alanlee4526 11 месяцев назад

      Law 5 (2016-17 to 2023-24) says, "the referee...takes action against team officials who fail to act in a responsible manner..." Very similar wording prior to that was: "takes action against team officials who fail to conduct themselves in a responsible manner..." The idea that team officials need to act in a responsible manner has been true for many years and continues to be true.

    How do you recommend having the coach deal with the spectators? Would you let the coach quickly run across the field to talk with the spectator if need be? Or yell at them from across the field to shut up? Lol

    45:37 Same situation last night with location of bodies and ball. Instead of a slide tackle, the defender runs in with a shoulder/hip check on the attacker and the defender gets in front of the attacker. The contact on the attacker results in getting knocked down side ways from playing the ball. The whistle blows immediately after the contact. My brain went straight to Tactical foul (I had just watched this video yesterday). As the AR, I gathered myself at the point of contact to verify if the Center had the contact in the box or just outside, to verify for a PK or not. 1. What would you say? 2. The center had his arm up for an indirect. Calls impeding on the defense. At half the other AR was in favor of the impeding. Indirect kick for the attacking team. 3. I get worn out for the next hour from the attacking coach on his interpretation who wanted a yellow and a PK. 4. Lastly, I know impeding is an indirect kick. What if it is in the penalty area? Thanks

  • @optimusd3854
    @optimusd3854 2 года назад

    50:00 Incorrect, you do not officiate the outcome alone, you must also consider the intent. Just because contact isn't made does not excuse the manner in which a challenge is made. To ignore this would then only punish challenges where players get hurt opposed to stopping dangerous challenges being made in the first place.

    The guy who thought the attacker won the ball misses that just because the ball went forward, doesn't mean he won the ball. The defender dispossed the attacker thereby winning the ball. Ball went forward so far and fast attacker had no chance of getting to it.

    Great stuff. Appreciate the sharing of this. Wanted to ask if you guys have any analysis of DOGSO reds from goalie double touches on goal kicks . Theres a female serie a example of it floating around between milan and roma . I am from Ontario Canada and apparently there has been over 100 goal kick misconducts called this summer in our area. Thanks alot .

    I get the work/school place mindset but we (officials) also need to have some thick skin. Think of it as service workers and what they deal with everyday or even our law enforcement officers. As officials, there is a line that we can tolerate without being unrealistic.

  • @coach714
    @coach714 3 года назад

    This would be the third or fourth video I've watched with this host and he has a bad habit of being snarky to those answering questions in his webinar. Regardless, he states around 21:26 that there is no "obstruction" in soccer or Laws of the Game. Technically the word "impeding" is used instead of "obstruction" and in the definition of impeding is the word obstruct. So yes, the foul is not called obstruction but impeding and yes, they mean the same thing and yes, it is a REAL thing. LOTG 12.

  • @coach714
    @coach714 3 года назад

    Again, thank you for these. However I have to point out that 12:34-12:36, blue player's arm extends and aids the red player to the ground (you sort of catch yourself as you notice it in the slowdown). Red didn't help herself with the angle she took but blue did extend her arm (it would have freely moved in the motion a runner's would take if force wasn't being applied to red). Ticky-tack foul and could be called if there were moments prior to this that caused the game to need tightening up.

    Great vid and useful tool for officials at all stages of their career. With that said, I struggle with the first example being a foul on blue. Both players are entitled to the ball, blue slides to get the ball and white enters that same space to also get the ball and actual strikes it. It appears to happen so quickly with neither player considering their opponent. At best it looks like offsetting fouls or a no-call. I can see how it "looks" like it should be a foul but I don't think it actually "is" a foul. (With all due respect)
