Sharing our initial plans and how we're trying to get there. A not so spoiler alert, it works out... eventually!
Congratulations from Nepal!
Thank you :)
This is gonna be a fun to upcoming projects
Thank you 😀
Look forward to watchin your journey...
Thank you! 🙂
you guys doing great ,following your own dreams ,since this is the beginning i subscribed for being with you from the start to the end hopefully ,wish luck..
Thank you very much!
You have certainly attracted a healthy number of subscribers {supporters]. Congratulations on your determination and ambitious attitude which I am sure will lead to success.
Thank you so much for both of your very supportive comments. They mean a lot to us and I'm sure we'd benefit from further moral support down the road as we keep trying to build our new home :)
Excellent starter video, I am sure you will succeed and look forward to watching you do it.
Thank you so much, that's so kind! ❤️
👍👍
Thanks :)
Buy a small tractor, like a red or even a grey Massey Fergusson, with a slasher - life's too short for a strimmer and you'll need a tractor to deal with your land or get a couple of sheep and let them have-at-it. It's a stunning view but its going to be a lot of work - it certainly will be an adventure, but you're both young, so why not - give a crack! I look forward to seeing you and your home's progress. Good luck. 👍👍
Love to get a tractor one day. We are being careful about the big purchases we buy right now to try to stretch the money we have as far into the build as possible. For this first part of land a strimmer was, although slow, what we thought would be the best tool as far as price as well as we were constantly finding rocks, roof tiles, and other things that might have ruined a ride on mower or tractor attachment. Plus we have a lot to learn about tractors before we will feel comfortable enough to put that much money towards one :) Thank you so much for your support, we look forward to sharing more videos soon! 😁
Can I ask what you paid for the property, and how did you find it. Thanks.
That area looks so similar to where I grew up, just on the edge of the South Downs, between Worthing and Brighton. Live in the US now 😢.
We're very familiar with the Brighton area! It's very beautiful over there too. The seagulls there are particularly good at stealing chips :P
What a project! Free the end of the barnwall from the soil so you will have no moist problems. Good luck
Thank you! We are considering that, or solutions to deal with the hydrostatic pressure and water ingress. If we did go down the route of digging the barn away from the hill slightly it does involve getting planning permission first though.
Looks like a fun project! Barn doesn't need much , almost ready to move in. lol 👍😎 PS Do you know how old the barn is?
Almost done right? 🤣 We are pretty sure the barn is at least 200 years old and might be as much as 300 years! We would love to find out for sure some day.

bit worried about foundational issues within the building.. some extra work might be needed
Absolutely! We have hired a structural engineer to work with us from the start. They are looking into everything from foundations to supporting walls to steel beams and everything in between. Not taking any chances there!
That was a great video. Good use of music. Did you ever find the owner of the cows?
Thank you so much! Yes we did :) It turns out a single farmer owns the land on both sides of us and the cows had jumped a short portion of fence we share. I'm happy to report the cows were returned safely to their proper field :D While we were fixing the fence the cows decided to walk towards us so we opened the gate and they just calmly walked through on their own :p
@@abetterwayforus cows are clever like that. If they like you they will visit again
Great video, what you’ve done so far looks good. Just a suggestion but if possible I would get a local Stonewaller to have a few day working with you, you will learn a lot, how to make frames, set up your lines, where to put your through etc. I have a chap help do the walls on our farm, he’s 83 so has decades of experience and knowledge and loves to share that knowledge as stone walling is another dying trade. I’ve learnt a lot from him. Well done so far, keep it up 👍
We would love to get some experience like that, there are also some free classes in our area but the classes didn't run until later in the year and we needed the wall up asap. We did watch a bunch of RUclips to learn about the batter (req'd lean) of a wall and things like that.
I bet you never finish it unless someone else does it
You should be a motivational speaker 🤣
You need some goats!
We'd love some goats! And they'd get through these weeds in no time! 😁
Lovely to see you the other day. And fun (also inspiring/"get off my own lazy arse") to watch your online updates. Love the cow segment (I miss being around cows).
Haha! Thank you 🥰 We will need to meet up again soon and swap more stories about how little we are all getting finished 🤣
I just found your channel, it's a real jem in the rough! Good luck on your journey, you two seem like a lovely couple with lofty goals for sure. Beautiful piece of land with tons of potential, keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! Lofty goals is a very good term for what we've signed ourselves up for 🤣
Great new channel. Love these old renos. May I suggest 40-45 minutes videos?
Thank you! A few people have asked for some longer videos so I'll see what I can do. They won't all be longer but maybe every now and again we can manage one :)
how to turn music off? It's distracting.
I don't think you can isolate the music so the only thing I can think of is for you to turn down the volume on your device during those times. We generally don't speak over the music (except for that herding bit) so without the music the time lapses would be pretty dull 😆
Put up a sign that trespassers will be ............
Cows can't read :)
Hi ! Great video. Good luck x I was caught in a similar situation and was really worried about the bull especially as I was wearing a red coat ! Olay !
Thank you! Glad you survived too :)
Really good start… I think you need a small trailer and an ATV to haul stuff around the land it would make life a lot easier. Great content love the video ❤❤❤❤…… are you near the military Mach loop as there seems to be a fair amount of military aircraft about.🎉🎉🎉
Would love a trailer and ATV! Unfortunately starting a build means you need everything so we're trying to buy things as becomes absolutely necessary. One day I imagine it will become priority! Yes, we are pretty close to it, we're in mid-west Wales :)
Best of luck with the project. The land looks beautiful. Can you recommend any websites to find land like this in Wales? I would also need to sell my house in South Wales. Many thanks, Matt.
Thank you! We actually found our place on Rightmove. I did have a list of places we were checking though. I'll see about digging them out to share the details :)
@abetterwayforus Thank you ☺️ Yes I discovered the land filter on rightmove today!
Hi. I've found a few adverts for land in south wales but they all seem to be agricultural with no planning permission. Do you know if you can get around this if you were to live in a movable structure like a tiny home on a trailer chassis or is it best to find land with given planning permission? Thanks again ☺️
You probably won't be given planning permission for building a house on agricultural land, it would first have to (at least part of it) be officially reclassified as 'residential'. A way around this is if there is already an existing structure on the land, like a barn, you can apply for 'change of use' for the building to be classified as a 'dwelling'. Instead of searching for just land on Rightmove, try a regular search but including keywords like 'barn' or 'acre' and it should find you listings that have more of what you're looking for.
@abetterwayforus That's really useful and good to know! Thanks for getting back to me.
My wife and I are going to follow your journey from our home in Kansas in the US. We will be sending you thumbs-up often to let the RUclips algorithm know people are watching. Good luck and looking forward to your next video (Watched first three already).
Thank you so much! We really appreciate the support! 🥰
Cow's are the most dumbest and unpredictable creatures ever 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm not very familiar with cows but these ones were equal parts terrifying and adorable 😆
You don't know many cows. I grew up next to a dairy farm, and my uncle had cows. They are just like big, well giant puppies and very loyal to those they see as herd
They are not! They are lovely mothers and have a high loyalty to their herd and people who treat them right. They can differentiate between strangers and people they see often, even neighbors or regular dog walkers.
@@LittleChena Exactly
As a beef farmer in Derbyshire we have bulit many many drystone walls on our land(Limestone).. This is a great video..Please make these videos longer(10 mins for RUclips if you looking to make some money on these)) 👍💯👍💯👍
Thank you! There's a few people asking for longer videos so I'll see what I can do 🙂
be careful. cows are dangerous. a lot more dangerous than you think. they will trample you
😱 Ok well thanks for letting me know. I survived this time but I know what farmer to call if it happens again! 🤣
Great start
Thank you! 🥰
good start, looking forward to watching your journey
Thank you for joining us on our journey! More to come soon 😁
Great video Andrea and Dan
Awesome drone footage
It's cool seeing the barn from that view isn't it! We love our little drone :)
Congratulations
Thank you!
So right to use security tools❤ floodings are frequent now so carfully drain the part back at the hill .your home will be fantastic
Yes drainage is going to be a big task here! So much water running down from the hills above. Luckily most of the land is on a good slope so as long as we do the drainage right it will run off the land rather than creating huge boggy puddles!
Man you almost had hamburgers for the winter lol. Better this trespassers than others. Scenery is gorgeous. Looking forward to the next update. Your friend from Virginia, USA.
Thank you so much! More coming soon! :)
New sub. Looking forward to your journey. Keep your head up, eyes forward, and remember compassion for each other when things get tough. Your new friend from Virginia, USA.
Very good advice! And thank you for joining us on our journey :D
Epic project, good luck! They do 3 day taister courses for drystone work all over Wales, mite be worth a thought if you're going to do your own stonework, check out where the nearest farm auctions are, they're often a very good source for cheap building materials/tools etc. a capable vehicle with a towbar and a decent trailer can solve a lot of logistic problems early on too.
That's very helpful advice, thank you for sharing all of that! We will definitely check out some farm auctions and the courses!
Keep living the dream!
🥰
Hi guy's great videos looking forward to watching more could do with making them a bit longer see ya soon 👍👍👍
Thank you! I've been trying to keep them short to avoid boring everyone 🤣 Really nice to know they could maybe be a bit longer ❤️
Really looking forward to seeing what you guys do with the barn. Looks as though you’ve got plenty of work ahead 😊
Thank you. So much work! Lots of things (like getting power and water sorted) to finish before we can start on the barn but we're hoping to get there soon enough :)
@ Whereabouts in Wales are you? Looks a bit like the Brecon Beacons (I used to live in Swansea and walked there lots) ☺️
It's so beautiful there too! We're further up, in mid-west Wales :)
I subscribed when you said that the field to the tree line was yours. Smart to go with solar and stay off grid. Hope you have ample clean groundwater for a well. Looks like you might have sheltered southern exposure microclimate in front of the barn which is ideal. Very exciting to follow your progress! 🇨🇦
Fighter jet? How close are you to the Mach Loop? Looks like a great spot and lovely bones. I would keep a look out for a tractor. It will save money and effort in the long run..
Yea we are pretty close to the mach loop. We'd love a tractor, and a digger! We need to learn more about them first so we don't buy a dud :)
Looks fantastic. Definitely fits the definition of derelict! Rather more so than ours. Plenty of work ahead, but im sure it will be worth it in the end. Will be following,
Thank you and good luck with your own project! 🙂 We have more to share soon!
Hi Andrea and Dan. Congratulations to you both. My wife and I bought our dilapidated property 18 months ago, not too dissimilar to yours and just a few miles away from you. We are in the process of going through planning and it may be a while yet before we make a start. There are days when we feel down on the enormity of our project, but watching channels like yours gives us a huge lift. Seeing you with the strimmer, ear defenders and hard hat put a big smile on our faces because it is exactly how we spent our very first day on our land. It is an amazing location and I can envisage the end result is going to be incredible. If you guys ever feel a little low just remember there are neighbours rooting for you and if you ever need extra manpower we are here. Best wishes, S & R
Thank you so much! It's nice to hear from others who have been in a similar situation 🙂 And it was lovely to hear you enjoyed watching our first days as they brought back memories of your first experiences 🥰 I hope your planning permission is granted soon and you can start on your own project. We would love to hear how it goes. ❤️
Great project and lovely location . I’m not sure I fancy striming that lot lol I’d hire a ride on mower for a weekend lol
Thank you! Dan would have loved to hire a ride on mower but there were lots of hidden rocks and dips that would have done some damage to the mower, and the weeds were so long we think it might have tangled up in the blades and caused all sorts of different problems 🤣
Wish you luck, look forward to seeing more 👍
Thank you! More to come very soon! 🙂
Fantastic. Great video. Great content. 💯👍💯👍💯
Thank you 😀
Hello...my name is Yuni from Indonesian enjoy with you video 😊😊
