As We Head Into South Australia, The Nullarbor Continues To Surprise
The Nullarbor Plain extends into South Australia, covering a vast, remote region of flat, arid land that stretches across the southern part of the country. The South Australian section of the Nullarbor is famous for its stark, treeless landscape, offering travelers a unique glimpse into the raw beauty of Australia’s outback. The name "Nullarbor," derived from Latin meaning "no trees," perfectly describes the area’s vast, open spaces and low vegetation.
One of the standout features of the South Australian Nullarbor is the Eyre Highway, which runs across the plain and serves as the primary route connecting South Australia with Western Australia. Along the highway, travelers can experience so...

GORGEOUS BEACH in South West Western Australia 😍
What a find! Was it far off the highway? We have 'done the Nullarbor' 14 times now and enjoy finding new spots to stay.
It was approx. 30km off the Eyre, down a track off the Boolaboola Rest Area, between Cocklebiddy and Mundarabilla roadhouses. 14 times! What year did you first cross it?
@@OurOutbackJourney Thank you so much. first return trip was 1982 - from NSW to WA for a holiday then 1983 when we moved from NSW to WA.🙂
Wow @@tripawayinsafehands! You must see a big difference between 1982 and now.
Another great episode thanks OOJ. More inspiration for our planned trip in '25. Best wishes for Christmas and I'll look forward to seeing what you're up to in the new year. Great music accompaniment - is it Boy and Bear? Cheers
@@Ranger670 thank you for your kind comment and all your support this year. Not sure re music, will have a look and get back to you. Have a wonderful Christmas too 🎄

Thannkyou. So beautiful. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 😁
Thanks. We're hoping to do a trip across the Nullarbor some time in 2025. I really like your episodes - they have an AMSR effect for me. No unnecessary commentary, beautifully shot and letting the scenery do the talking. Also thanks for not revealing the exact location of the lovely free camping spot you found. I like the idea of people exploring for themselves - just like you did. Safe travels.
Thank you 😁 One of our favourite parts of travel is finding spots for ourselves. That one was great, we stayed for two nights, until it got a bit warm and the flies descended! Enjoy the Nullarbor - so much to see, it's an incredible drive.
We hope you enjoyed watching our video. We're travelling Australia full-time - subscribe to follow our adventures! www.youtube.com/@OurOutbackJourney
Kalgoorlie is most definitely a interesting place not many tracks but the bush around there is magnificent in my opinion and has the worlds tallest bin 😂
The world's tallest bin 😂 Tell us more!
Great episode thanks. Congratulations on your first bogging! Seems like you handled it no problems just by letting your tyres down. What is the dark coloured material around the top of your van pl? It looks like a protection cover that I'd be interested in. I really enjoy camping in the Goldfields area of WA. Free camps and less people. I hope the rain scared the flies off for a few days. I recommend the Goldfields Loop north west of Kal if you're not headed across the Nullabor.
Thank you 😁 Yes, luckily it wasn't as bad as we first thought! It looked like just a puddle, but the water must have been lying there a while. Lesson learnt! Our van is a modified pop-top - the original owner did it. It has metal chequer plate around the top, where the canvas would have been. Great for us, as we are not that tall, and we get a few extra storage cupboards too 👍 We love the Goldfields, will likely do a bit more next year, as we are probably doing the Great Central Road again.
@@OurOutbackJourney Wouldn't mined if you did a "show and tell" on how the van was modded. I have a similar van and may have a go if it 's doable.
@@Ranger670 not sure how it was done but yes, I can do a wee video for you 👍
@@OurOutbackJourney thank you, I'd appreciate a look at how it was done.

Hey guys :) just discovered you. Beautiful videos. You on the road at the moment? Happy travels.
Thank you 😁 We are in Perth and the surrounds for the next couple of months, catching up with family and friends.
Caravaning seems to run in families. It certainly does in ours. Enjoy, just as I will.
great to see you both, love the story about Don. caravaning runs in families. I see it over and over. enjoy, just as I will.
Thank you for your comment, but I think you've attached it to the wrong video! Nobody called Don here and we don't so stories, only scenery. Hope you enjoyed the video though 👍

Love that big sky country - and the big rocks. Hoping the flies aren't too bad for you. I'm headed out to the wheat belt today before it gets too hot out there. There's so much (recent and ancient) history to experience. Great episode of one of my favourite areas to explore. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍 It's become one of my favourite areas too. Would like to go back and spend more time there, without the flies! Perhaps earlier in the year (we were there in October)
@ From my experience, May is a good time. After the first rains and a few chilly nights. No flies! Campfires and space at free camps and shire Cara Parks. 🙏🏾
@@Ranger670Awesome, thank you 👍

Are you finding different farm stays that are not on hipcamp or wikicamps
Yes 👍
@OurOutbackJourney we have a dog that is kept on lead so far with your stays do you think that would be an issue ?
@@MarkDartwe've stayed in around a dozen places and all have been dog friendly 👍
We hope you enjoyed watching our video. We're travelling Australia full-time - subscribe to follow our adventures! www.youtube.com/@OurOutbackJourney
Thanks for this. I guess this rules out the dunny-less camper trailer? Or are there some stays where that won't be an issue?
@@rustysworldofentertainment850 this is aimed at self-contained, so you would need your own toilet. Having said that, we've stayed at a couple of farms that provide them. I couldn't tell you how many around the country do offer that though (both we've stayed at were in WA).
@@OurOutbackJourney Cheers. It's a bloody big state, there are plenty of bushes 😄

Pretty well over the frilled up corporate caravan parks and always head to the older style, shire run or private, family owned places. I have no use for a bouncy castle or kid's entertainment so am very happy to leave these places to the travelling families. It's not all about the savings. It really is my preference to go where I can get a decent shower, some quiet privacy and a feeling of security. In WA, they're some of the few places where you can still have a (contained) fire to sit around and enjoy a drink once the wet season finishes. Great advice for those who aren't just about ticking the usual boxes. Thanks.
@@Ranger670 yes, that's an excellent point! We would rather go somewhere peaceful, than a caravan park. Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your comment 👍

Is that the track that wends north of Errabiddy Bluff? Does it come out on the Butchers Track? Bold move taking the van along it but you did well. Hopefully no permanent scratches. Great episode thanks. This is a favourite location for us but we usually stop at the Murchison Oasis for a lovely hot shower and power to recharge everything - although I understand if you're looking for a free camp, there's lots of opportunities in the area. Wooleen Station is another favourite camp - out at the river.
@@Ranger670 Yes, that's the one. More of a goat track in places and we did add some new pinstripes to our van, but it was a fun track and not too technical. We will definitely return to the area, hopefully the flies won't be in quite such epic proportions! Thanks for the tip, will check Wooleen out 👍
Wow!! such stunning views. 👍4

Is the croc sign still there near the causeway? It's certainly kept me vigilant while we were there. I'm not sure of how recent it is but it's not inconceivable that a toothy lizard could be that far south! Sit caveat campers 🙏 I've just come over to your channel. It looks good. Not too much chatter and "guys, guys, guys" commentary. Nice work, great footage.
Thank you so much for your kind words :) The sign was still there when we were at the camp three weeks ago. We didn't spot the croc though!
