You are the man, thanks! I thought this was more of a mechanical problem for my opener, like binding on the screw or something. But then I remembered to always Google something before assuming the worst. (I even remember seeing smoke hissing out of my opener a month ago, which must be the moment it fried.)
What does that do?
Thank you! I have successfully fixed my non rotating ice maker!!!
Awesome! Glad the video helped. Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends! 👊 feel free to leave a super thanks!
65 years I say BS
Or you could just do it properly
I had the no ice problem the gear was trying to go against the front and jamming,I didn’t not see a reset button so I took the whole thing out opened up the gears and then I was stuck ,thank goodness you made this video I got it all back together and plugged it in this time the gears were grinding and popping and the water sprayed out I think it might be ok it did turn the the main gear back and forth after I reset the button a few times .not fully back together but close thanks for saving me from not having to spend 420$ for a new one ,if I had of known that there was a reset button I would of saved a day of frustration.😢
I just made a short about the reset button, seems there are a lot of people that don’t know that little guy is there. Glad I could help! Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends and feel free to shoot a super like! Thanks again!
It's always good to put oil in the filter. So when you start, it doesn't have a dry start. Just thought you'd like to know that.Thank you for your video
Thanks appreciate the feedback!

Nice tip. I'll try it next time!
Imagine getting those filings out of that carpet!! 😮
Another simple fix would be trying a little bit harder the first time.
Thanks Brad that will save me a lot of money.

Hi, my ice maker over fills the tray so that it makes a solid layer of ice across the top. The ice is too thick and the twisting motion is not enough to release the cubes. Any ideas?
Turn down your pressure
My icemaker is making a banging noise bang bang bang bang for about a minute. Any ideas anybody
My Motor works fine when disengaged but when I reengage the overhead door it makes that noise and won't open. Any Suggestions?
My icemaker makes ice, drops it down like it is suppose to, and is not clogged at the bottom. However, when I push on the lever to get ice, the motor does not turn. on. It turns on to give me water. Have I a defective switch or motor. The unit is 6 plus years old.
Might be the magnetic door switch
Well, you definitely earned my subscription! I've had my LG fridge for probably 5 years now and I've had the upper ice maker get stuck a handful of times now. I've always been able to fix it by removing it and letting it thaw out or I've even used the hair dryer trick a couple times. Every time in the past this has worked in conjunction with the reset button and I had the ice maker up and running in no time. But this latest time it was different. I was almost convinced the motor was shot! Then I saw this video with the gear box. So, I took it out much like you did and opened up the gear box. Nothing was obvious at first and it didn't look like anything was wrong with the gears and the spring appeared to be functioning properly. But to be honest, there is a lot jammed in that little gear box so it is really hard to see. But I did notice one thing when I removed the big gear that actually turns the ice tray... as soon as I removed it the little lever that attaches to one end of the spring moved a little to the fully "closed" position. I believe this little lever controls the whole operation of dumping the tray. So, I checked the rest of the gears to make sure they were seated properly and then made sure the spring, levers, gears would work properly together and all looked good. I put it back together and plugged it in and boom it was working again!! Thanks a lot for your assistance with this one! It saved me a couple hundred bucks for now!
Appreciate the Sub! Happy to help and hope it fixes the issue for good! These LG’s are pretty temperamental, mine continues to need me getting in the gear box and adjusting every few months.
Thanks for the tip, I hope this fixes my problem. Lucklily I have a backup till i replace the capacitor, I alctually like the backup as its much quieter opening and closing "Nana The Mother In-Law" She does a great job opening an closing it.
Thanks! You just saved me an hour of fooling around trying to get the blades off. Who knew about the 3 second thing to position the blades!

G'day mate. Any chance you know where to source the drive gear from the ice bucket itself? Mine is split into 4 pieces. The mechanism in the door with the metal fitting spins, but nothing in the ice box itself moves. One gear is shattered, and the replacement for the whole thing is $150+.
Matt, I have found free refrigerators before and used replacement parts that work great off those. Try your local Facebook market or Craig’s listing. Hope this helps! Good luck! And remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends 👊
That was exactly the problem and fix for my door. $20 bucks for a capacitor vs $200 for a new opener. Nicely done!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching. Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends!
We had the same problem.. same noise and ordered the part.. unfortunately, it did not fix the problem.. so I’m totally lost now
Fricking junk LG
Thanks for saving me tons of money on my car insura.... I mean my repair bill.
Thanks for the video. What if the ice dispenser works fine but makes a loud popping noise immediately after dispensing ice and also randomly makes the popping noise? TIA
My 1/2 HP Genie made the same noise. Looking at capacitor I don't seen anything obviously wrong. When I disconnect the screw drive, the motor DOES run. The collar between the motor and screw drive looks fine but replaced that anyway. Same hum when connected. Can a bad capacitor cause motor to not work under load? If not capacitor I'm wondering if there iis binding of the screw drive (dirt in grease or other)
Thanks! The reset button is all we needed!

Very informative! Our’s appears to have a broken piece of white plastic in the square plastic hole in the back where the metal lever fits into. We are getting crushed ice only. Do you have any suggestions for that?
Do you have a picture? Thanks
@@problemfixd1414 Yes, I do but, unfortunately not able to add a picture here. How can I send it to you? Thanks!
This was thorough and had all the info I needed. Thanks for telling me the filter number. Much better than other podcasts.
@AlfredBasso Glad to help! Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends. 👊
Thank you so much! This worked and I avoided a service call fee and potentially an overpriced repair and finding other things that “should be replaced”.
Glad I could be of service! Please like and subscribe and tell your friends! Also, feel free to send a super thanks 👊
I have a newer LG fridge and opened the gear box and everything looked fine. I still took the gears out and put them back but it’s still doing the same thing. It will go up for a half a second and then down for a half second and then stop. It really seemed like something was binding up. Damn thing is two years old, I guess I’m ordering a new ice maker. They’re only $100 but I was hoping this was the issue.
@@johnembach5208 thanks for the feedback. Always good to hear what others are dealing with. I have had that issue as well but after opening up the gear box and pulling them all out and putting them back together it usually fixes the issue. The only other thing I can think of is the motor??? Sorry the video couldn’t help! Good luck. And thanks for watching. And remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends 👊
Those ice makers are just trash, had to replace one. I guess it'll last a couple of years.
Hi Brad - I'm Nancy and I have the same unit. For some reason when the ice maker is dumping the ice, it's like it gets off the track and makes a loud clicking sound because it's off track. I've taken the unit off, and think the problem might be where the motor is. I haven't opened up the motor part, but is that a spring that maybe has come loose that maybe I have to reconnect inside that housing?
Nancy, mine does this all the time! And yes it’s usually from the gears or spring coming loose from inside the housing where the motor gears and springs are located. I’ve done a part 2 video showing me working on the gears and spring. Take a look at it as it should help with your problem. Good luck! And remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends👊
Thank you SIR!

lol, you didn't fix anything. You took it apart and put it back together. Unless I missed something, it looks like all your icemaker needed was a defrost.
Thank you! They wanted me to replace my entire unit! I appreciate you!
Glad I could help! Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends! 👊 Feel free to send a Super Thanks, always appreciated!
Maybe just a hair dryer. Warm it all up ?????????
I'm going to try a hair dryer on low heat like another RUclipsr recommends because I might not be able to reassemble the ice maker. Thank you so much for this thorough repair, though!
Thank you! Didn't know that there was a reset button.
Glad I could help! Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends! 👊
If it was just froze up. I would have just removed ice make and left it upside down in the sink overnight to thaw and drain.
Mine does not have a reset button. 2017 model. Any suggestions?
Very helpful. Thanks.
