Welcome to my channel! My channel is dedicated to women in their forties and beyond where we can share tips on skincare, haircare and makeup! I have a diploma in makeup artistry so I do know the right side of a makeup brush ;) - and love to share tips and tricks that I have learned over the years.
I want to celebrate getting older. And I also want to do the best that I can for my skin here and now. I love makeup unashamedly. I love its power to transform and bring back confidence in women, especially mature ladies over forty (and beyond). As we mature, we have many things to deal with - our skin's texture and its needs are not the same as they were ten or even 5 years ago. RUclips is where I have found community and space to share these kinds of topics.

Are you not ment to use power Wen your in your 60 does it make you see your lines more
I have tried doing my eye makeup first but it just messes up the rest of my routine. 😂
I don’t take foundation under my eyes, I just use concealer. That way I only have one layer of makeup there.
I like applying my highlighter before my blush.
Highlighter before blush is one of my favourite tricks!
What kind of brow pencil are you using in this video? TY, Sally
Hi Sally. A local brand called Hanon.
@@Fifty-sense I love actual eye pencils. Thank you!
Hi Sue I do my makeup in a slightly different order, but it may be due to having very dry skin and using different products 😂. My routine is as follows: Skincare and spf then wait 20 mins Eye primer Green face primer for the rosacea A second layer of eye cream as an undereye primer Set my eye primer with a loose powder and apply my eyeshadow (this is to avoid any trace of fall out) Colour corrector under my eyes in the darkest corner (this often means I don’t need concealer). Foundation or tinted moisturiser Concealer if required Blush - I only use liquid or cream blush A little cream highlighter I now use a little loose powder in the t zone Brows Eyeliner Setting Spray Mascara Lips Just a bit different order and my ultra pale cool toned skin doesn’t suit bronzer or contour- they look weird (muddy, orange, yellow or like I have a dirty face 😂). I stopped smiling when applying blush a few years ago as when I stop smiling my face drops😂. Instead I apply it with my face relaxed and this allows better placement for a more lifted look. I still have a round face so there is still volume in my cheeks, but that causes my smiling cheeks to be higher and when not smiling the placement is too low when I want a more lifted look. This will obviously depend on individual face shapes but is worth a try if this also happens to others. Best wishes x
Hi Loraine. Thank you for sharing. There are definitely 2 schools of thought regarding placing blush on the apples of the cheeks. I do it to give the illusion of lift. Wayne Goss says I'm deluded 😂😂 as it will look odd when I've got RBF!! I still do it though, as for my face shape, I definitely feel it gives the illusion of volume. The jury is out! 😽💕🌹
Thanks for another really helpful video! I love the idea of a more shimmery blush in place of highlighter. Pretty please, would you think of doing a follow up on concealers/correctors more generally and the difference between under eye products and other concealers? I've also seen make up experts talk about eyelid primers before or sometimes in place of eye shadow to smooth out the skin colour. As someone who often doesn't always wear shadow, I'd love to know more about this. Love the thumbnail btw!
Hi Tracy. Yes I'll look at doing a video on concealer. It's not my favourite topic TBH!. Eyeshadow primers can really help with the longevity of eyeshadow, but I don't use them often. Interestingly, I used one in the video but I forgot to mention it 🙈(it's the Milani one)
❤❤😊
Sending hugs 🤗
BTW - Happy National Lipstick Day 👄 💄
Thank you 😊
Charming video as usual. Should I be using highlighter first or blush first 🤔 ? I’ve been using it first to line my upper cheek bones 🦴 Not sure if the placement is right either.
Sometimes (often) I use highlighter first. I think both methods work 🌹💕😽
Almost thought this video was titled “correct order of operations”! BTW, I think your makeup videos are one of the very few that can hold my attention from beginning to the end!
@@MsActor2009 🤣🤣 you could say that makeup application is sort of like an operation!! Thank you for your kind words xx
I’m also one of those women who wears makeup nearly every day. I benefit from the boost it gives me when I look a bit better, and I really enjoy working with my products and picking out what shades I want to use. It’s a form of play and just feels good to do. I’m retired and have lived alone now for more than 10 years. It really doesn’t matter if I’m not going to see another soul the entire day; I put on makeup for myself, not for others.
I am exactly the same! I wear it for myself, no one else. I even wore makeup during COVID lockdown. It made me feel better. And I love thinking about what colours I'm going to wear 🤗🌸💕
Love empties ❤
You look so lovely! Hugs from Arizona, USA 🌵🤗
Thank you! Hugs from SA 🇿🇦
I like the creative process. It is calming and fun
I agree 💯
Love the title. Make up makes me happy
Mwah 💋😘
What a pretty look Sue! As usual your choice of lipstick colour is mwah! Incredible to see the transformation with so few products. I'm a makeup minimalist at home but decent brows and a coral lipstick are essential I think. You've made me realise I should do more for my own sake. Please say more about colour correctors in an upcoming video? Thanks!
Brows make all the difference! Will expand on the colour correctors x
I don't wear makeup very often bc even in my 50's, I still get acne, and makeup products always make it worse. But when I do wear it, I always feel a MILLION times better about myself.
It makes me feel the same!
I love that you showed how much difference a simple, not “over thought” makeup routine can make. The look you achieved is so pretty and fresh. I am over 50 and wear at least a little makeup daily, even if I’m not going anywhere. It makes me feel better. I love thinking of it as a “super power!”
@@stephaniemcclellan2904 thank you Stephanie. Amazing how just a little makeup can make such a big difference!
I wear makeup nearly everyday. It gives me confidence that’s for sure but I also love the application. I even enjoy taking it off at the end of the day as I feel like I give myself a mini facial every night.
I feel the same. Putting on and taking off makeup is like a mini meditation for me!
I think makeup is an art. I like playing around with it. It’s nice to have a moment to myself. It reflects my moods, the times and what I’ve got going on. Freshes me up and gives me confidence. I don’t judge women who don’t wear makeup, who only wear a little or who wear a lot. I had a friend got annoyed with me for wearing light foundation powder and lip gloss on a hike in the woods. It was just a tiny touch up in case we passed people on the track!!! There have been several studies that prove that women who wear makeup get jobs over women who don’t and sell more products ….I think it communicates something energetically about passion.
Exactly this! Wearing makeup on a walk or a hike would be second nature to me. Because I'm doing it for me, not anyone else. In the same breath, I don't judge anyone who doesn't wear makeup. None of my friends wear makeup and I think they are gorgeous. I see makeup as a hobby and a passion, like reading, painting or playing a musical instrument. It brings me joy. If people see it as vanity, that is their business!
She has amazing skin, but it annoyed me that she insinuated that I was conceited or insecure - think it had more to do with something that was going on with her at the time. ( The ex moved on and was getting remarried ) I don’t know what was going on in my mind when I put makeup on for the hike. Think it’s just my modus operandi to freshen up a little bit before leaving the house. I wasn’t wearing mascara or eyeliner - it was just a touch up!
@@MsActor2009 I would wear sunscreen, mascara, and a touch of blush, myself. Perhaps even a light lipstick or lip balm. I would hate to be judged for that 😭
Sunscreen is a mandatory for a walk/hike!
❤❤😊
Hi Sue I have loved makeup for forty years 😂. I don’t wear it everyday however, but I do wear it to leave the house. If I am just at home I give my skin a rest from makeup, but I have extremely reactive skin due to rosacea and eczema. I feel more put together and like I can face the world with my makeup on😂, but how much I wear is very dependent on where I’m going and the clothes I’m wearing. I can’t do powder foundation anymore as I have extremely dry skin, but minimal makeup for me is: Green corrector Tinted moisturiser Concealer Tinted brow gel Cream shadow Mascara Cream/liquid blush Tinted lip balm Best wishes x
Yes! 😺🤗
I wear makeup 5days a week for work,I’m 48 and always loved makeup/perfume/skincare since I started working in the late 90’s and I wear it even more now and still learning . Foundation Brows Blush Eyeliner Mascara Gloss ❤❤ Your makeup is always pretty 😍
Thanks Phumzi xx
Recently, I discovered that applying a small amount of olive-toned or mint green concealer around my nose allows me to use less foundation.
Good strategy. Colour correctors can be very useful!
I wear makeup just about everyday. When you look good, you feel good. I also always put on either a body spray or perfume as well. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks Milica. Glad you feel the same 😍
Makeup makes me feel so much better and I wear it every day .... sometimes more and sometimes less - I do enjoy it and love to look at cosmetics when shopping .... I don't need to buy it all the time but it fascinates me - whats new and different. lol
me too! I wear light make up even when I am home all day. I like how I look in the mirror when I have a bit make up on!
I love playing with makeup in store too. It's one of my favourite past times 😋
I’m much younger than you, but I started out watching you from your Mac content and have stayed 🥰. I enjoy wearing makeup because same as you, it’s how I start my day, makes me feel more put together AND I’m a walking billboard for my content 😂. Makeup is my passion and has been since I was a child. I could never give it up. It’s fun, relaxing, mood changing and mood boosting. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Thank you for your lovely comment. It sounds like your makeup story is very similar to mine! Glad to find another kindred spirit ❤️
Yes I definitely feel better when I get my face on 😅. Ready to greet the new day.
❤❤❤
I wouldn't say I like the Neroli but the original is amazing and the Florle is my favorite.
I also have the Floral and I love it 😍
@@Fifty-sense ❤️
Neutrogena Hydro Boost is such a wonderful product. I used up a few jars of it. However, for wintertime, Weleda cream, which comes in a green metal tube, is great. It's a little on the heavier side, but if you are struggling with dryness and parched skin: perfection.
It is a great drugstore one ! X
I’ve just emptied the Bioderma Gel moussant. It claims to be safe enough for babies, so I thought it would be safe enough for me. I would never use this on a baby!! It has a disgusting ocean fresh scent that (no exaggeration) resembles dish washing liquid! The 1 liter bottle took forever to use up. I suffer from useuperitis, which means I can’t throw bad products away. I have to punish myself for wasting my money on the product by enduring the product every day! I would love to watch a discerning video on Bioderma products. Next is Avene TriXera nutri fluid lotion 🧴 Blown away by this. Will purchase again! Accidentally purchased Aveda exfoliant instead of toning spray. Big mistake! Smells like weed killer and I usually cough after I spray it on! Can sometimes make me a little bit red. Just used up Aveda hand relief renewal serum. Repeat purchase until I die!
Eeww about the Bioderma moussant. I'm with you on userupperitis. That's why I was determined to use up the cleansing oil. But it's the last time I'll buy anything in one litre. I get bored after a while. I've just purchased the Avene hydrance intense serum. I think you suggested it a while back? It has been discontinued so I got two bottles at less 40 percent. I like the sound of it as it doesn't contain hydrolic acid (hyaluronic acid)😊. It has an alternative, which might be better me thinks. Hydrolic acid can often dehydrated skin instead of the opposite. Will let you know how I get on.
Hope you do a video review about it. It still sells in most pharmacies on my end of the world 🌎 It doesn’t contain any progressive skin care benefits like retinol, however whenever I put it on, I notice I instantly look a bit fresher. It feels very trustworthy and gentle - no nasties! Perfect lazy lady product. A couple of pumps before I run out the door or late at night when I’m really sleepy and be bothered with jars, pots or droppers. Travel friendly, too!
@@MsActor2009 I used it this morning and it hydrated my skin immediately. Pores look more refined because of the hydration. Absorbed immediately. I think I'm going to love this! Thank you for the recommendation 😊❤️
I can easily use up a bottle every month, so you won’t get bored of it!
@@MsActor2009 @Fity-sense The Avene sounds divine girls! I assume you apply it under moisturiser? I love the brand and am very tempted to add this product to my skin care. Please do a review when you're ready Sue? Agree with you btw about the hyalaronic - that's why I called it hydraulic acid. It hydrates some days and desertifies you others. I want something that doesn't attack me when it feels the urge.
I started doing this b/c I had a lot of lipsticks I wanted to use up and it's a surefire way to have a nice match.
Exactly! It's underrated! Xx
Hi Sue my subscription feed is also full of Amazon videos 😂 and I don’t have prime, nor am I buying stuff mid month. So far this month (I sort my empties from the start to the end of the month) I have finished: Zelens vitamin E serum- a nice moisturising serum but not worth the price (I got a good deal in TKMAXX 😂). Boots eczema treatment featuring Ectoin - a really nice hydrating/moisturising gel/cream I use as a moisturising serum. This is one of several I have used of this product. Pacifica vegan ceramide serum - a nice hydrating serum but not one I need to repurchase Avene antirougours cleanser - for me this functions as a single cleanser and is great for travel. It takes off everything apart from waterproof mascara and is my lazy option 😂 Bioderma biphase eye makeup remover - this is how I take off my waterproof mascara and it is excellent. My Clio kill lash mascara will not come off with misceller water, cleansing cream or even an oil cleanser (it’s amazing on my watery eyes as it does not budge). This takes it off easily and gently. It’s better than the famous Lancome bifacil in my opinion and bonus is both fragrance free and much cheaper here in the UK. That’s it so far this month. My skin for info is extremely dry, rosacea and eczema prone. Best wishes x
I love hearing about your empties. They always sound so exotic and you inspire me to try different things. I have a "Loraine" list of things I need to try ❤️. Thank you for sharing x
Thanks for the nice change! You are correct about being bombarded xo.
Hehe! Thanks. It was driving me nuts!
These videos are fun, Sue. Peeking into someone's trash is very telling. 😂 My first time trying the Garnier Micellar Water. It wotks a treat. So much cheaper than the Bioderma. I normally use Ponds Cold Cream, but it isn't great for eye makeup. I found The Ordinary very...ordinary really. Naturally gravitated to a K beauty brand it was kind on my skin, but not amazing. Best at the moment is Innisfree. Their Olive Oil cleanser is top notch. Now you have finished your neroli EDP, what are you using now as perfume? 😍
The innisfree range sounds interesting! I have my eye on the l'occitane neroli perfume. It's more complex than the Nuxe! Watch this space 😍
@@kateaye3506 Great comment! I think Sue’s next empties video should be called Talking Trash! Or Trash Talk?
@@traceybiller9458 I think Trash Talk has been taken by Joey, Grant and Connor; a trio of expats living in Japan. 🤣
UR SMILE IS SO PRETTY AND WARM <333
Thanks! Super useful as always. Cleanserwise I can't recommend Toleriane enough. I love La Roche Posay in general because their products are a great match for my very sensitive skin but Toleriane is really amazing and never leaves my complexion feeling tight or irritated. I'm not sure if it takes off makeup since I wear only sunscreen in the middle of summer! Agree with you about the importance of under-eye hydration. You've inspired me to buy the Kerastase hair mask.
Thanks Tracey. The Toleriane is very good. I used it when my skin is feeling sensitive. It's lovely and gentle but not great at removing makeup 💄
❤😊
😍
Hey Sue It’s so important to go through our products. I went through Nivea sunscreen, also go through a lot of the serums from the ordinary(to be honest I haven’t seen results on The Ordinary Niacinamide and Hyaluronic acids) I’m impressed you went through your perfume I remember when you showed it on a video,I struggle to finish perfumes because I have an unnecessary number 🙈🙈,My mother always gives me a judgemental eye 😂😂
Lol!! Thanks Phumzi. Perfumes are hard to finish! I'm using the Ordinary niacinamide at the moment. I'm not loving it. I haven't tried anything else of theirs tbh. X
🙌 so glad it’s not just me that’s so sick of all the amazon videos! 😂
Yes, it's enough now!! 🤣
I know, enough already!

Double Wear Foundation ❤ I used it in the past, and it's wonderful. Double Wear Light, another love of my life (the original, none of the other glowing versions) I miss that Foundation. Your video wants me to run to the store and repurchase it 😊
Hello! Yes I loved the original light version too!!
❤😊
🤗
Hi Sue I wear a decent amount of pink as I have a very cool undertone and I’m ultra pale😂. My best advice for using pink on the eye is to use it in the crease or transition, but keep it away from the lashline. Also a navy blue liner really helps to counteract the pink shades from making you look unwell 😂. Monochromatic looks seem to be popular again on social media and pink is a great shade for that in every variety from pastel to dark. Another tip is to make the cheeks and lips the focus with just a touch of pink on the eyes (just enough to keep the theme). This is to me more of an everyday neutral look with a little dustier pink - very pretty but not overtly pink😂. I do like quite a few Catrice products and also some Essence. They’re well priced usually. I don’t like their mascaras although I know everyone else does 😂, but they smudge everywhere on me. Their complexion products don’t really work for my super dry skin either, but they have some really good colour cosmetics eg lip and cheeks products. Both brands have a good liner formula for both eyes and lips. I do have some favourites from both brands, but they discontinue things quickly so beware. Best wishes x
Thanks Loraine. I agree that Catrice and Essence can be hit and miss. I've only ever tried a Catrice foundation. I can never find my shade in Essence. And yes, they do often discontinue their colour ranges. Thanks for the advice on navy blue liner. I agree, it often makes the eyes look brighter somehow, and counteracts shadows that are too warm. I got away with brighter pinks when I was younger, but now... not so much! Thank you for your very informative comment x
I have a quartz pink eyeshadow (more like a bronze pink) that works well with my pale complexion.
Very lovely look. Have a great weekend!
Thank you 🙏. You too!
Love that idea of doing that highlight before the blush! I have those products and I’m going to try that today. Thank you.
Try it. It's often more forgiving than highlight over blush x
Skin illusion and skin comfort were beautiful , porcelain like foundations. I like the practicality of the Everlasting pump mechanism, but I found it weird. I think it would turn slightly orange after awhile…
I still have some of the old skin illusion, before it was reformulated. I don't use it often but I went through a few bottles back in the day. I don't know what Clarins problem is regarding their colour cosmetics. All the things I loved (cream blush, lip liner in a decent colour) have been discontinued 😞
I think it’s hard to sheer out!
I like the name of that lip liner “cheers to life” - that’s how I’m feeling at the moment 🥂
And cheers to you! 😊 Have an awesome weekend xx
I wore the nudy pink shade makeover to brunch on the weekend.
@@MsActor2009 lovely! I hope you got lots of compliments!
No, I didn’t, but I felt extremely pleased with myself. It looked like the makeup had been defused onto my face, because I blended so well. Remember in early 2000’s when getting foundation professionally spray painted onto your face was a thing? Feeling less scared about crease shades and highlighter. Would love to see you do a video on coral colours!
@@MsActor2009 Thank you for the idea!
I love that essence blush! I bought Dusty rose x3! 😅 I’ll be sad when I can’t get it anymore.
We didn't get dusty rose here, but I've seen it online. I agree, the blushes are fab!!!
