2020 Corvette C8 Z51 at Thunderhill East with 718 GT4
It was fun driving somewhat closely with Johnny in the 718 GT4. I tried to go for a pass twice but I found out I have commitment issues even though he left me plenty of room. His car is on dead rt660 so he's struggling a little with pace. But you can see all the micro corrections needed to keep the Porsche on the right trajectory. Definitely not an easy car to drive at the limit.

3rd session of the day at Thunderhill East with LightSpeed with around 80f track temp. The 3R tires are definitely passed peak but still fast enough for me to set a PB lap and also 1st place in TA. I really wonder if I can get into 53s in the winter with new tires and good track condition. 3rd session of the day at Laguna Seca with SpeedSF 92db day. Finally put in a decent lap. Optimal sectors are 1:34.0 so a 33 is in sight. I really need to upgrade my brake pads as I am having a hard timing doing threshold braking and modulate them correctly. But overall a great day with very minimal traffic in fast advance group and no track downtime either. Mods: Brembo BM6 380mm BBK - front &...
2020 Corvette C8 Z51 at Buttonwillow 1:55.9 stock mag ride

Before putting the KW V5 back on, I wanted to try the stock mag ride suspension at my trusty BRP. Even though it has a lot of brake dives, it did a pretty good job handling the weight of the car. I also drove my friend's car that's on Paragon lowering springs (stiffer) with non-mag ride shocks and it made me appreciate the mag ride a a lot more. It's a lot tighter in the low speed transition tu...

Last session of the day at Sonoma with @lightspeed369 where advanced and high intermediate group is combined. Combined group always end up with more traffic. And even though I didn't get a clean lap, I was happy the best sectors add up to a low 1:44. It took a couple of sessions to get used to the new pavement as the grip level is much higher and the general bumpiness is gone. I had to turn TC ...

My friend at TDW help me put the KW V5 back on but this time with 14kg/10kg Swift springs. Car feels way more neutral now and still have plenty of front end grip. It handle bumps and manage car weight pretty well and overall gives a lot more confidence. I had many laps with predictive in the low 1:21 but they all got ruined by traffic. First session of the day. Car is definitely softer with stock magride and less confidence inspiring that KW V5. Found myself braking earlier and softer to not shift the weight too much forward. I was hoping the stock suspension would be similar to what's on SS 1LE but looks like my search for suspension upgrade on this car will continue. 2nd session in a new car and new platform! I was fortunate to come across this track build C8. The previous owner, Alex, owner of www.motoroso.com did a fantastic job with the build and I only need an oil change, new tires, and GM track alignment before hitting the track. Mixed condition day starting with a damp track and first 2 sessions red flagged. Fortunately no one was hurt. 3rd and 4th session was pretty dry but ran into constant traffic. Decided to stay for the 5th session and got the PB of 1:57.09 on my 9th and final lap! Most of the improvement were in T9, T10, and T11. I did messed up the T3-T4 combo so there is easily another 0.3s left on the table. M...

Trying out squared 305 30 r19 Nexen Sport R for the first time and found the tire to be pretty quick and consistent. I wasn't able to PB due to traffic but I was able to run 4 back to back ~1:39 laps showing how consistent this tire can be. The downside for this tire is that it takes some time to get the heat into it and before that it's pretty slippery. Mods: bone stock powertrain 305 30 r19 N...

Happy New Years! I finished 2023 with a track day with GGLC at Buttonwillow. The day started out with rain and many cars flew off and got stuck in the mud. In the afternoon the sun came out and the track was dried enough for me to lay down a 1:57.2. I was actually happier that my newly met friend got into sub2 trying to chase me. Is this the Motoroso Corvette?
yeah, I bought it from him.
so dxxx fast!!! ❤
Noice lap.
Just watching this video reminds me of my time at Ron Fellows. I sold my stingray to get a z06….but holy crap! The stingray is LEGIT!
you should check out my 1:34.3 lap. Basically tied with ZL1 1LE with the same tire and ZL1 has more aero and power. ruclips.net/video/HZGhxnVhxe8/видео.html
Simply the spring rate on ALL Y chassis cars, and i believe MAGRIDE works as well without further calibration. Just my ideas.
Nice lap!
Nice job and great laps….. the R8 pads seem to work great ? Do you daily the car with them and how are they on the street ?
R8 squeals at low temp for me. The bite doesn't really come on until you smashing the brake pedal so it's hard to modulate. I'll probably use more aggressive pads like R16 in the future.
You like that strong hitting you in The face or what?
Tires don’t overheat and get greasy with all that sliding? Don’t know if we ever crossed paths, but I was the blue sports racer that was doing setup work that same day. Absolutely a perfect weather day at TH.
they did overheat a little bit near the end and pace dropped about 1 to 2s. It was very good weather until afternoon, track condition degraded quite a bit and I was easily 3 seconds off from morning session.
Wow, you were wheelin' that thing! Excellent car control, feel sorry for your tires!😄
Thanks! tire wear is actually pretty even on this platform thanks to double wishbone front and rear and somewhat lighter weight. No excessive shoulder or inside wear like the SS 1LE.
Amazing lap! Way faster than me Just got the same BBK and noticed it doesn't clear my stock wheels. Wondering what front wheels you have - any Apex options that clear the front? Thank you!
The car came with Forgeline gs1r in 19x9.5 and unknown offset. Apex has the front in 19x9 ET36 VS-5RS that should fit. You can check with them directly since they have all the BBK cad files available. apexwheels.com/vehicles/chevrolet/corvette/c8-stingray-z51#construction=forged&design=vs-5rs&finish=anthracite&frontQty=2&frontSize=19x9-et36&rearQty=2&rearSize=19x115-et48
Oh that makes sense, thank you! I'll check with Apex for their options
@@mcbat8 If you happen to be thinking about selling your front Forgeline gs1r to make your setup APEX front/rear, please let me know! I'll very happily install it onto my C8 since it will have the same BBK. Located here in the Bay Area too :DD
@@jeff-uk7uw I'll be looking to sell the full front and rear. Ping me through Instagram chat if that's what you're looking for @mcbat8
Nice lap!
Thanks for the ride!
How many track days on ur Supercar 3 tires?
I got about 4 days before the rear looks like they only have 1 day left. Front still has 2 days or 3 days more.
Amazing thats just 7 seconds of a Macca Senna with Randy Pobst driving!! Im certain you can do a 1:33 and that would be McLaren 600lt territory💪🔥💯 Great to see you pushing the C8 to its full potential! Also good minimum speed and flow! Keep it up I wanna sew more 🤠😍
Will try my best!
Looks like the last corner shaved a full second =(
It added a full second lol it seems like I didn't smash the brake hard enough as there was barely any dive in the front compare to other brake zones.
Sunset will forever be the equalizer! Lol!
Sunset!!!
Lol, graveyard of PB and hopes and dreams.
Nice lap! Are these all your toys! Starting to get jealous!
C8 replaced SS 1LE
Was this Z51 package? What tires?
Z51 package. Goodyear SC3
I saw another video from a Mustang that showed a C8 same color as yours wipe out at Laguna just after it passed him.
Thats probably me lol. Link?
That’s some awesome driving! Just curious why you have it in automatic instead of shifting yourself?
Most driver mention laptime is better in D. It didn't get in the way so I left it as it is.
LAPOLE-Dash? Looks better.
Yeah, I tried both his prototype as well as a short arm Ram mount and both gave stable videos.
i did hr lowering springs and front/rear sway bars.pretty happy with it
Is it with mag ride or without?
Very first session! great adaptability my friend
We have permanently lost Bennet to the dark side! no!!! Nice driving man :)
Damn Bennet, look at you doing the damn thing. This is Danny with the model 3 in San Mateo. Glad to see you still out there ripping
Bravo. The commitment! Having that front end be so direct looks great.
Yeah I love how direct and fast the front end is. Very similar to the BRZ, except I got a 800lb powertrain in the back now.
How do you like the transmission?
It's good! Shifts lighting fast and doesn't get in the way.
I was surprised to see it in Drive. It didn't look like it slowed you down at all, pretty cool.
Looks like a lot of fun to drive😆. Superb driving!
Thanks! It definitely keeps me on my toes.
If you want to cut lap times, settle the car and make it more responsive you might try a Speedway Composites Chassis Strut X Brace
Looks like there is alot time left. Guessing its a Z51?
Lots of time left. First day in MR platform and damper isn't really giving me confidence yet. Yes, z51
Nice! Looks like a fun platform
Flying!
American Ferrari!
Not quite yet, that would be a Z06!
How did you deal with the charging situation at thunderhill?
There are some Chademo charging around 10 mins from the track. They have Supercharger at the track now and should be enabled within this year.
Got it, looks like there's an EA station as well. Do you know if the onsite L2 charger works? I'm considering a track event out there next month and want to figure out the logistics before I get there!
@@alex_tanaka I've seen people use the onsite L2 chargers
@@mcbat8 Awesome, can't wait to be there!
How did the battery hold up? Did you just use the onsite L2 charger to get through the day?
I use the supercharger that's 12 mins away between each session
I see.. I hope Sonoma gets a supercharger one day
Nice!! I was able to improve my times as the day went on. What an experience.
Nice time! I also set my PB on that last session. A rare day where the track just kept getting better.
yeah, it was a weird day for sure. I pointed you by at the out lap thinking you're just going to do 1 or 2 laps and leave while I warm up the tires. But it seems like grip wasn't all there due to bunch of sand and dirt on track. Which lap was your PB lap?
Very Nice, 1:56 for sure next time. How'd the tires feel on the 9th lap? I can't imagine what that feels like lol
lol, you don't even do 9 hot laps in a day. But by the 9th lap, I could feel a slight degradation. Maybe 0.5s drop from peak? Most sectors were still purple and only 1 or 2 sector is off by 0.1s compared to when tires are in optimal condition.
Great lap! Man, I need to get back out there soon! I’m leaving so much time on the table. What org did you run with? Track looked empty.
Thanks! I ran with SpeedSF. Track is only empty at the 5th and last session. All other sessions I had to pass plenty of traffic.
The best onboard video in 2024, to date.😆
🤣
I've heard of heat issues with these things. Have you tried a nankang ar1 yet? I had some 255s that would hang on for quite a while and heated up fairly quickly.
Yeah, I've tried AR1 before. I would say they're about the same pace but AR1 would fall off slightly slower than RT660. RT660 in my experience will delaminate under high heat and you really need to baby it for them to last and cannot continuously punish them. However, I really like the the firm sidewall and direct feedback that it gives.
@@mcbat8 good to know! Thanks!
In conclusion pretty good and on par with v730?
I haven't driven V730 on the Camaro but it feels a little more grip than V730. I would say between RE-71RS and V730.
👍👍
It looks so stable. Race PTM on?
Correct, Race PTM. It's a great platform with good suspension and traction control tuning. Really like the front end and steering feel. Just wish it was lighter.
Great driving! I got faster this time but so did you and you again beat me by 1.2 seconds! The main difference I see is that you grab 2nd at T2 while I stay in 3rd. Maybe I need to give that a try. I need to watch our videos side by side to see the difference. I should’ve pushed to be in the same group too. Would’ve been fun to chase each other.
From comparing to your video, I think the time difference is mostly between T9 and T10. You can start the video at corkscrew and compare. Good job improving!
Thank@@mcbat8 I'll definitely check that out!
yah pretty quick for stock tires and alignment, SS 1LE is a good reference point
Love the uploads. Whjat pads do you run? Have you thought about using track addict with a cheap obd2 connector so you can see throttle, steering angle, braking, etc?
Front pads are Carbotech XP20. Hard to find pads for this BCD caliper. It's not shared with ZLE 1LE or regular SS 1LE. I thought about the OBD2 connector for more data but I don't think it will add that much value for me. You can see the steering inputs in the video already and GPS speeds gives a good sense if I am on throttle or brake. And to be honest I think I am too lazy to pull data from multiple sources to make a video. I just want to drive lol.
you had a cast of characters in your run group.
tell me about it, we also had a kit car that's lower and smaller than that ariel atom dive bombing people. Eventually he got clipped while trying to pass at the inside of T7. Everyone else was pretty good though.
@@mcbat8 clipped sounds bad though. It’s HPDE!
