2006-2010 VW Passat full headlight replacement w/o removing bumper
How to replace both headlights on your VW Passat (Volkswagen) without removing the front bumper. So much cheaper than paying to have it done.

Ohh... May he Rest In Perfect Peace. He must have been an active bugger while young to still go through this, even with shaky hands it touched me. Now I know how to get my 2008 Passat head lights out for cleaning. Thanks to Grandpa Vic. Travel lite and in peace to the glory that every good man deserves... Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words. Even in his last week he was touched that so many people found his video helpful. Pragmatic until the end. He was a very good man.
Vic was a good man. I removed my headlights tonight and freed up the adjusters. Very sad to learn of his passing. I give thanks to Vic and I am sure that his family must miss his kind words.
Brilliant video, thanks for tips👍
thanks from germany
I’m struggling to find that hard to reach bolt only issue I’m having so far
Same
Can’t use sight. Just have to feel it with your fingers. It can be frustrating and take a few minutes. Keep with it and you’ll get it to work. I tried to get the socket on it for about 5 minutes and it finally happened.
Great video! First video that appeared when I searched for this subject. Rest in peace Vic, and many thanks for the helpful explanation.
Thank you, very much. He was a great guy who loved helping people.
Thx man. Great vid. All I needed to know👍
Rest in peace vic. ❤
💗
Very important: This can happen if your car is without headlight washers!
This is great! So sorry for your loss. This will be uselfull next time I need to fit new bulbs! I suspect once one has mastered this it'll be quicker than fiddling around blind with the stupidly tight bulb access!
Thank you. Vic was a great man. Good luck with the light replacement. It was a whole lot easier than taking the car apart.
Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺 Legendary
Thank you very much for taking your time to teach others, may God protect you, rest in peace.🙏🏼
Thank you for the very helpful video 🙂
Loved this, and very sorry to hear about his passing. I saw his strugle but that didnt stop him BRAVO
Thank you very much. Vic was an awesome guy right up through the end.
Nice job of explaining , thanks
Thank you! I'm happy the someone kept this up. Very helpful.
Excellent 👍👍👍👍👍
Great job!
Great job! I’ve come back to this video several times!! Sorry for your loss!
Epic video and an absolute legend. RIP Vic.
Thank you. He was a boss!
That was great! I could not make the tight fit on the passenger side so I had to remove two screws from the bottom to put my hand through otherwise it was like you said, I have one question and I hope you can answer this and that is how do remove the wire harness in the headlight its self? My wire are all burned and the turn signal socket on the headlight is melted. I could not find a better replacement than what the dealer sells for $35, I intend install better wire shrink wrap to prevent further problems. Thank you again!
You are correct; the wiring harness is fried. Mine was brittle and falling apart. However, the connector was still good. I did have to use a flathead screw driver to help me pry it off though. If you notice, in the thumbnail for this video there is an old school can of liquid electrical tape to "fix" the brittle wiring. That just didn't make it into the final cut of the video.😁
80 bucks a piece? From where? Amazon, eBay? A good name brand headlight assembly with warranty, for that vehicle costs double that, plus tax and shipping.
Let's see...video is 5 years old for that $80 price. Fear not though, I did your research for you and just found the link in this very comment section. Looks like we are up to a whopping $105 per light (free shipping) in 2023. It has a lifetime warranty but on a 15 year old vehicle that is one of your primary concerns...c'mon man. www.1aauto.com/2006-10-vw-passat-passenger-side-headlight-assembly-diy-solutions-lht02010/i/1alhl03723/1516765/2008
@@mr.random6294 thank you very much. Mine's a 2010. At that place they cost $175 plus tax each.
@@barrygoldwasser5449 Same headlight for years 2006-2010. You are probably looking at the price for both (you can buy them individually for $104.95 or as a 2-piece set for $194.95. Good luck with the install. www.1aauto.com/2006-10-vw-passat-driver-and-passenger-side-2-piece-headlight-set-diy-solutions-lht03467/i/1alhp00614/356544/2010
@@mr.random6294 we good now? You believe it now? Good. Take care!
Excellent video Vic, thank you so much! I was dreading having to remove the bumper! And now thanks to you man, I don't have too..... I agree with the rest best 'how to' video yet.....
Thank you very much. I appreciate the compliment!
Awesome video thanks so much
Great video. Nice job dude
I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. All the information was spot on and saved us a lot of money. Thank you sir!
Mission accomplished! I'm happy this helped.
well done ... well done the youngsters can take a leaf out of their book
Firstly thanks for such a video, without it I wouldn't have tried it, but here are some of the issues I ran into, firstly the numberplate has to come off before the front grill comes out (might be a UK thing). The shitty nut thats hard to reach is pretty much under the water bottle. I found it easier to lay with my feet away from the front of the car to get a good look at it while lying down, you will need a torch. There is a cabling loom tied below the bolt so I cut the cable tie holding it in place and pulled it down to give more room. If you have big arms or not very flexible this can be an issue getting the bolt out. Possibly jacking the car up would help (after thought). Lastly, the cables attached to the lights what a friggen nightmare. They don't come off with a quarter, infact my passenger side I had to get a multi tool and cut the plastic housing of the old light I was removing, cut the INTERNAL cables in the light, take the fitting out and then slowly remove the male/female connector. Not sure if it was full of dust or someone used some sort of lock tight but it was more harder to deal with than the shitty bolt. So maybe disconnect these first before removing any screws, as being bent over your car rapidly losing your patients with a part that doesn't want to play games is not good lol
I live near the ocean and the tape surrounding the wire harness was brittle and falling apart. Regarding the license plate bracket, Florida doesn't require a front license plate. We are lucky in that way. It took a lot of patience with that hidden bolt, especially given my tremor. LOL.
This was very helpful 🙂 ☺️ thanks for the demonstration
It is my pleasure. You're welcome.
Great video! I'm tackling this tomorrow. Thanks for taking time to show this process.
I hope it went well and saved you some $$$.
Vic for President! Your video is ace! Without it I’d have struggled in vain to do this job as a novice mechy. Thanks & godspeed!
Thank you, very much. We did this video 4 years ago and it blows my mind. I'm happy that people still find it helpful.
4 yrs later and still an excellent video!
Thank you! And still my only video. 😂
Thank you sir! I will be ordering the new headlight assembly today and I greatly appreciate your sharing of your expertise. ;)
Best man on RUclips! He show the easiest way how to remove your lamps. I want you to be me mechanic ♥️ Greets from Poland 🇵🇱😎
Thank you. I'm still kicking it in Florida but don't find myself under many cars these days. :-D
Awesome explanation. Precisely what I needed.
Great video. Thank you so much for posting this video. Saved me lots of headaches. 👍
I'm very happy to hear that!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge like a master teacher 👍
I appreciate the compliment. Thank you. Stick around long enough in life and you become a genius! 🙂
That was awesome. I love seeing old school work ethics.
Thank you
Great video. Wery helpfull!
Thanks this was helpful to me....may God bless you for your sharing and also more as you trust the Lord in these last days.....
I sure hope these last days aren't that close, but I guess you never know. Thank you for the blessing regardless. I'm glad the video was helpful and hopefully saved you time and money.
Excellent, thanks!
Great video! Just bought my almost 16 year old daughter a Passat with dingy un-adjustable headlights. Ordering replacements now thanks to this great DIY tutorial. I noticed the FL tag, I moved to PCB in 2016, made a lot of good family memories there. Back home to Cartersville Ga now. If your ever traveling north of Atlanta on I-75 I certainly owe you a beer or 6🍻🍻👍
Great job. 👍 Thank you for sharing the video
Very helpful thank you very much!
La migliore guida che ho trovato! Lavoro facile e veloce! Grazie!
Thank you. I’m very happy this helped you!
Many thx. for the most helpful and clear instructions. You’re the best.!😀
Thanks for this video. My garage had told me how expensive it would be to replace the headlight because of the labor costs involved. The biggest challenge screwing back the inside screw, but the "braille method" prevailed. 👍👏
The Braille method is tried and true! I'm glad you got 'er done.
Many thanks for showing the way on this. You have saved me a fortune and in time money and garage hassle. Extremely helpful video.
I'm very happy that this helped you...especially the saving money part!
thank you so much for an alternate perspective on this repair. Pulling the bumper seemed excessive and is probably the reason the repair at a shop is so expensive. Great video will use as a reference when my parts arrive.
I hope it went well for you.
