Fantastic recap Jen. My first time watching your work and I'm very impressed. And yes, I did tear up watching 715, but not as much as I teared up watching you. Your heart is obviously in your work recapping Outlander, and it's clear you are a devoted fan - not just the show, but its stars as well. I've written exactly one fan letter in my 74 years on this orb, to Caitriona Balfe. I was gifted the season 1 dvd set by my daughter-in-law when Outlander was in season 3, but I was so impressed with Caitriona's talent and beauty that I subscribed to Starz so I could watch her. In my fan letter I admitted this and hoped she could use my Starz subscription (solely to watch her work) to get an extra forty bucks in her next renegotiation. I hope she got it. I'm looking forward to the finale and promise to tune in to your recap. BTW I couldn't help noticing your Cal diploma; I'll still watch even though I'm Stanford class of '73!
Aw, thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words. 😊 I love getting to make recaps of Outlander because this show deserves so much love. I hope Caitriona got your letter, too. Thank you for watching! ❤️
Hey Jen, happy new year first of all! Just letting you know that there is no episode next week. They will skip a week and the last episode will be on the 17th of January. Have a good one! See you in a couple of weeks 😊
Ah, I missed that! I based my info off of a schedule I looked at a couple weeks ago. Guess that was inaccurate. Thank you for letting me know! 😊
@@jenrecaps5901No prob! Have a wonderful day 😊
🥲Roger’s father does die immediately after that underground memory. It is in the side book, A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows. His father actually saved Roger’s life there, and then he died with Roger’s mom. So time travely, because if Roger didn’t send him back through the stones, Roger himself would not have lived.
Same to you Jen! Happy holidays! Have a good one ❤
Just think how confusing it would be if the writers included everything & everyone in the book at this time ( Fergus & family, Hal Grey, Dottie etc). they had to eliminate most of those characters. FYI: The Paoli Massacre did occur. General Grey had his men remove the flints from their guns & use only their bayonets to attack rebels sleeping near a tavern called Paoli. Watch the review of this episode by " My Outlander Purgatory" where Tracy & Carol tell the facts as they grew up near that area. Not only that, they were responsible years ago of telling the story to Karen Henry who is a blogger closely tied to Diana Gabaldon & were stunned to find the story in "Written in My Own Hearts Blood" with a thank you & acknowledgement in the book.
I love how Ian senior not only wanted to say good bye, but he wore is best kilt & regalia.! I am enjoying Rogers inner dialogue reactions !
I am also curious to see how the Arch Bug thing will play out. I know that it cannot be exactly as in the books. You're not alone. I sobbed at the ending too! Re: the acupuncture needles... Jamie worried about image of the continental army forsooth! It's just his own pride. lol! Yes, we certainly will find out more about Rob Cameron in the second half of S7 :)
Just reading book 3 currently and interesting to see how much was changed! I do wonder how they'll handle the Arch Bug arc. Glad to know I wasn't alone at the end there! So beautiful and sentimental. Can't wait to see the Murrays again. That's true regarding Jamie's pride. Definitely loved the season 3 callback. Lol Interested in seeing where the Rob Cameron arc goes, too. I might have read up on that a little since making the video. Lol 😅
In the book, Jamie has repeated problems with his mutilated hand. His ring finger sticks out & he breaks that finger. At some point ( not sure if it was this battle) he asks Claire to just remove it as it is a nuisance.
😮😢
Die 7. Staffel sollte eigentlich die letzte sein. Deswegen ist sie vollgepackt. A er nun gibt es noch eine 8. Staffel. Da könnte der des 8. Buches drin sein und was vom 9. Buch. Es sei denn, Diana Gabaldon sagt, wie der Schluss ist. 💖💓😘💯
Correction: I will see you all in two weeks! Missed the hiatus message.
The next/ last episode is on in two weeks, just to extend our stress a little bit longer.
Ah, I guess I missed that. Dang! They always find a way to have a two week hiatus. 🫠
I think they went too fast through the kidnapping with very little set up. I know they need to fit so much in. I understand they've gotten to the purpose why Rob is in the story, just think it was confusing for non-book readers. Loving Wiliams story ( typical conversation between young men with Hammond). I think William sees the hypocrisy of the General saying they were victorious with no concern for those that were lost.
I agree it felt a little fast. Hopefully, it will all make sense in the long run. True about William. It's definitely interesting seeing a change in him and how he views the war now.
Mrs. Raven was there after her husband and son were killed. I can't remember if it was by soldiers or Indians, but she was paranoid about everything.
That's so sad. Poor Mrs. Raven 😥
Lake Champlain, upstate New York. The Fort is located near the southern end of the lake. A beautiful place.
Jamie says that this type of dream only began a few years ago.
It was definitely Mrs. Bugg.
Thank you! I don't know why my mind doesn't want to register who is who sometimes. Lol.
Regarding Mandy and Jem in the books they have a special link and they communicate telepathically.
It's been mentioned by the producers that this summer will be 8 episodes, and the second 8 will be shown in 2024 with season 8 ( 10 episodes) sometime in 2025. Maril Davis also said this season will be taken based on the last of "A Breath of Snow & Ashes, all of book 7, & some parts of book 8. We've seen previews of some of the Revolutionary War battles for this season, they can consolidate many of them into 1 or 2. The whole story of Jemmy in the 70's to be covered & I assume fairly early in this season Jamie, Claire & Ian head to Scotland. The end of season 7 will either be the return to America or if they make it that far, the return to the Ridge. A lot to include in 16 episodes.
Thank you for the clarification! Yes, that is a lot. Definitely curious to see how they will work all of that in. I am especially excited to see them return to Scotland this season!
Hey Jen! You did a fantastic job with that costume, wow! Is that talent in sewing that I see? 👏 Keep up the great work! As for this episode, I loved it personally. I didn't notice Sam Heughen's "stiff" portrayal of Jamie until I read it on the Outlander subreddit, but I tend to disagree with them. I think it's just the maturity of his age that seems to have affected his temper in a good way. Claire was also hot-headed and had a temper but we don't see her acting that way either. I just think the outlander subreddit goes a bit overboard with the nitpicking and complaining. Sure, I've also been iffy about some thing that have happened, but for the most part this season has been fantastic! I actually think that Claire taking the ether is out of character, BUT it's also a normal reaction to trauma and PTSD, and people who haven't been through that or don't have a deeper knowledge about disorders or how the mind works don't realize the severity of PTSD symptoms and are quick to judge Claire for doing it and the writers for writing it into her character. She is human and is still vulnerable to the effects of trauma. She's not superhuman. She was gang-r*ped for God's sake! That kind of event would surely affect anyone, no matter how strong you think you are. Sheesh, some people can be so harsh on the writers. I loved that they spent a bit more time on Brianna and Roger's relationship this season. They did last season as well, but we can now see how close they have become as a couple and how strong they are together, and I really like that, and it was nice seeing them have a loving sex scene, and how much more chemistry they have. The one thing that has bothered me is that the writers haven't really developed Bree and Jamie's relationship. They seemed to have forgotten that relationship altogether, whereas in the books we get soo many lovely moments of them together developing their relationship and slowly building a bond from non-existence. So that was a bit disappointing to be honest. I can't wait to meet Willy and Amanda next season! And wow, 16 whole episodes! So much to look forward to! Until then, take care of yourself Jen and see you next time!
Hi! Thank you so much! I am getting back into sewing after a hiatus, and am starting to do some Outlander pieces, starting with the waistcoat and neck scarf. The shirt and skirt I bought separately, but they all went together so well for the costume. 😁 I agree! Their change in character shows maturity and shows how far their characters have come, which I love to see. And yes, very well put about the ether. It showed how much Claire had been affected by something as traumatizing as a gang-r*pe. I personally would never do that for my PTSD, but I can truly understand the why. It honestly really bothers me when people don't even attempt to put themselves in a character's shoes and just judge them. Hopefully there will be less nit-picking when season 7 premieres. Yes, loved seeing them focus on Bree and Roger's relationship more! And that's true, I hadn't thought of that till you mentioned it. I know Jamie and Bree have had moments here and there in seasons 5 and 6, but nothing where they truly bond. I'm not sure how it goes in the books, but I would love for Claire and Jamie to be present for the birth of Amanda, since they didn't get to be there when Jemmy was born. It would be nice to bring that moment into that scene. I am excited for season 7 and the 16 episodes to come! I'm curious to see if they split the season like they did with season 1. That would be interesting. Thank you! You take care, too, and I'll see you for season 7! 😊
@@jenrecaps5901 It's been 2-3 years since I've read the last book (before bees came out) but I do remember Bree and Jamie having many beautiful bonding moments, so much so that Jamie was in the birthing room when Bree gave birth to Jemmy in the books (I think that was when Roger was still with the mohawk. He met wee Jemmy when Jemmy was a few months old, I think), and Jamie was really emotional during the birthing scene. That bond hasn't really been developed too much on the show the past 2 seasons. The show hardly shows them spending much time together, just the 2 of them. They've shown them going hunting here and there, that's true, but nothing much more than that. So, you're right, it would be nice to see Jamie in the room when Brianna gives birth to Amanda, although that is a bit unconventional for a man of that time lol! I think splitting the episodes up might happen since there will be a lot of them, but that also depends on the season (and month) that it airs and if there are any holidays around that time, I think. Thank you for your wishes Jen, see you next time for season 7! :-) <3
Hi Jen! Thanks for the recap and well done on the intro! Great job sewing that costume. Did you have a pattern or did you create one? What an episode and yes a cliffhanger! Damn the fisher folk. What a mistake having them on the ridge. I can't really remember too much of the next book, so I'll be re-reading that again before season 7. I really loved this season. Everyone did an excellent job. I hated seeing the house destroyed and I wonder if they will really burn it down. That would be a shame. I just got done watching the episode. I could watch it at midnight Saturday but I like to watch it when it airs on DirecTV. It's heartbreaking watching Claire and Jamie go through more drama. Having them try to send Jamie back to Scotland was a departure from the books was it not? I know how it goes in the book with the Christie's but I sure would like to have Alan admit what he's done in front of the whole ridge. Doesn't the Brown's meet an untimely end? Trying to recall. Thanks for all your videos this season! See you next year, God willing!
Hi Jaimie! I'm glad you enjoyed the intro--I'll admit I was a little nervous about doing that, but I'm glad it worked out. And thank you! The skirt and shirt were bought, but I did make the waistcoat without a pattern (didn't have one and couldn't easily find the Outlander one from season 3). It was a little tricky, but I'm happy with how it came out. 😁 I know, I really dislike the fisher folk! Such ungrateful jerks! I feel like the house is its own character and I hate seeing it getting destroyed, too. If they do the fire subplot, that's going to be a really sad episode. I honestly don't know what happens to Jamie at this point in the books. Were they not separated in the book or they just didn't plan to have him go back to Scotland? I personally would love for Allan to be forced to admit to what he's done in front of everyone, as well. He has gotten away with too much. I couldn't find anything on what happens with Richard Brown. I truly hope he gets what he deserves in the end. That man is truly the worst. You're welcome, and thank you for watching all my videos! I really appreciate it. I'll see you for season 7, and until then, stay well! 😊
Where the show is filmed does not matter. Game of Thrones was filmed primarily in Northern Ireland. They were nominated & won. It's industry recognition & there is a lack of exposure & the fact it is on Starz. Sam is just "beefcake" to many, not recognizing his superb acting. Catriona has been nominated. Maybe her role in Belfast & the recognition it has received may call more attention. The cast knows how much fans appreciate their work. It not being a union show may be another factor?
Those are good points! It really is a shame that so many people look at Sam that way and don't see him for his talent. I'm glad Caitriona has at least been recognized for her other work lately. I also know a lot of award shows have become about popularity, which sometimes overlaps quality. I'm glad the show and the actors at least have a good, loyal fanbase. 🙂
Hi Jen! Thanks for the video recap! It was a heavy episode again. Lizzie and her love trifecta did bring some levity 🤣 So much happening in this episode. Next week's episode is only an hour long, so how will they fit it all in? I'm afraid we'll have a cliffhanger as well. Alan was super protective over the baby casket. This whole situation is hard for me to watch as I've had to bury an infant myself. Even though that was 30 years ago, the pain is always under the surface. Claire finally telling Jamie about her hallucinations was really touching. Why did she wait so long! At this point I want to yell at Roger for saying the fisher folk could come and stay on the ridge! What a mess they've brought! The stones they were filming in the leaked footage are the ones on Bonnets Island, Ocracoke. So many emotions from last night's episode, I'm still processing actually. As someone who has struggled with PTSD since I was 18, I'll tell you that meditation has proved to be the best thing for me to learn. That and a reminder to always live in the present. You may find the books from Eckhart Tolle helpful. He also has a RUclips channel. Staying grounded. Earthing. The past cannot hurt you. You can't change it. You can prepare for the future, but it does not help to worry about it. Live now. Do things they give you joy. Cut ties with people who just bring you heartache, even if they are family. Learn skills to keep yourself grounded. Practice lightwork to bring that well being into your life. It's a process but life is short and you are important! Your well being is in your hands. Many great videos here in RUclips to help you bring that light in and meditate yourself into well being. There's some unsolicited advice from me, a Grandma that has been through some of the toughest things that life just throws at you! Much love and blessings from me and my Border Collie to you and your little dog🐾🐾 Dogs are angels on earth🐾🐾
Hi Jaimie! I'm still processing it all, too! Can't believe how much as happened over the course of just 7 episodes. Oh dear, only an hour, huh? That's concerning. If it is a cliffhanger, hopefully it won't be too bad of one, but it's hard to say. I'm so sorry to hear that and sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how hard it is to go through something like that. I know, Roger really messed up there, but of course, he only was trying to help and didn't know about all the history with Tom Christie. I probably would have done the same thing unknowingly. Oh, okay, that does sound familiar! How do they end up there instead of the other stone circle? Very true that there are so many ways to help one cope with PTSD nowadays. Meditation is definitely a good one. I have found that art and making costumes really help me and distract me from my thoughts. Listening to music, too. Still, I have moments of depression and anxiety that can be easily triggered, even by the smallest things. I had a bad father who was not only verbally abusive (no cursing, but made me feel like things were my fault at times when I had no say. He was good at that.), but something else had happened when I was younger, too. I've also really attracted aggressive behavior towards me from other individuals, even when I didn't do anything to provoke it. It all made me a very shy, delicate person, and that messed with how I socialize with people. It permanently made me judge myself with what I say and what I do when around others, and when awkward or unpleasant moments happen, they replay in my head, causing me to feel embarrassed and stupid. You are right though, I cannot change the past and it doesn't help to worry about the future. It's a matter of undoing the survival skills that I had to adapt to in order to live a more relaxed, happy life, which is hard, but I'm definitely working on it. Thank you for all the advice. I really do appreciate it and will look into other safe ways of easing my PTSD. 🙂 Love and blessings to you, too, from me and my Chihuahua.
@@jenrecaps5901 Childhoods and for me teenage years are very shaping to a child. I try to instill this in my daughter that she must be very careful of what she says because things hurt and they stay with you for a long time. I'm not saying I'm totally trouble-free but after years of counseling, I have found the thing that helps me the most is meditating and doing light work to help others. Tap into Source, the God Force, whatever you want to call it. It is there to heal you. And we all deserve some healing don't we. Knowing that we deserve good is part of the battle. We are good enough. I remember lying on a hospital bed while my daughter was in a coma at 8 years old and feeling that unconditional love about surrounded her and in turn surrounded me. In that moment of utter despair wondering if my child would live I felt the most unconditional love from Spirit. I'm not religious I don't go to church. But I am a spiritual being as we all are ultimately. This is why I know that the love that we get from our dogs or cats is that same unconditional love that I felt that night. So lucky for you I'm not going to bear a testimony or anything 😂, but find that unconditional love that comes from Source. That is where the healing comes from. And my daughter is fully healed and has given me two beautiful grandchildren and from them I get so much joy, my heart is so full. It is that same feeling I had lying with my daughter in the hospital bed hoping that she would survive. Doing things that give you Joy and fill your heart. That is a good place to be. If you find that in art and costume design then you're on the right path. This too is why I love Outlander, because despite everything there is an unbreakable bond between Jamie and Claire. Never found out with a husband myself which is why I'm not married, but I know it can exist in other relationships and Jamie is the King Of Men so how do you top that! We know from the books that he is not perfect, but he learns and is not afraid to learn new things and move forward with that knowledge. They are beautifully written books and Sam and Caitriona play the parts so well. My oldest daughter is graduating with her Masters this year and next year her and her husband are taking me to Scotland which is a dream come true for me. That will be a true test and I can survive being around that many people on a plane or maybe they'll just have to sedate me to get me there 🤣 I don't do crowds! In fact I am quite happy to live alone with my dog. Her father was Scottish so I think it will be a good trip for her too.
Wow, that must have been very scary. I'm sorry you both had to go through that. I'm glad to hear she's doing good now. I agree that there is definitely a way for people to feel energy and give off energy and it really can make all the difference. Unconditional love is one of those energies and I have always felt it with my fur babies. There's sadly so much negative energy in this world today. I wish there was a way to feel less of that, but so many people fight against positivity. I hope that changes someday. For a while after college, I had lost my passion for art and designing, which really created a struggle for me. I had forgotten that the reason I did it in the first place was because it was so therapeutic. I'm still trying to find a balance of that as a hobby and career, but I'm happy I at least have it back as a hobby. It's made me feel fulfilled in a way I didn't think I could. Jamie and Claire's bond really makes me believe in love. I know it's fiction, but I've heard of people who have found their Jamie and their Claire. I also love that both book and TV series show how they can both be flawed, but still find a way to work things out. I also love that they show how strong familial bonds can be. Congrats to your daughter on her amazing achievement! And how exciting to get to visit Scotland! I, myself, have yet to fly on a plane (someday soon hopefully), so I unfortunately don't have any advice for finding comfort on a flight. Despite the crowds of people, I think it will all be worth it when you see that beautiful country. 😊
@@jenrecaps5901 I would consider myself an empath as in I can feel everybody's emotions wherever I am. That has made it really hard to be around people. I guess that's why I started meditation, to be able to block that out so it didn't affect me as much. You might consider reading about that. It sounds like you are an empath too. I've heard of people that say they've found their Jamie. My second husband was a good man and father. If only he had enjoyed working🤣 I've yet to meet a man as perfect as Jamie, but I'm a bit jaded as I chose horrible guys most of the time. I think if I had learned at a younger age that I deserved better it would be different. We all deserve to be happy. That much I do know🌷🌷🌷
You're right, I do think I am an empath. I feel energies around me and sometimes it's very overwhelming. It definitely causes me to lean towards being an introvert. It's always nice to learn that I'm not alone in that. I definitely will look into meditation more and see if it helps. There aren't a lot of Jamie's out there, but it's nice to know that type of man does exist. And you're also right about everyone deserving happiness. I hope I can find that someday (I've yet to even date anyone, but hopefully it will happen one day).
Hi Jen! Really good job on the recap! This was such a HEAVY episode 😩. It was more dramatic seeing it played out on screen. I'm still at a loss on what to say about the episode. We'll have 2 weeks to let That sink in. No episode on Easter sadly... I was at InstaCare yesterday with an infection. So I'm not feeling so well today. Antibiotics are not setting well. One thing they didn't show was finding the Sin Eater. I do hope they show it. I can't remember what happened to Alan in the book. Did he die? I'll think more about the episode and come leave more comments maybe. Emotionally draining episode when you care for the characters so much. Stay well! (Your little dog is so cute watching you speak at the beginning 🐶🐾)
Hi Jaimie! Thank you! Yes, such a heavy episode with all kinds of drama. Definitely sad we won't have a new episode for 2 weeks, but at the same time, it will be nice to have a tiny break for Easter. Oh no! I hope you feel better soon! I'm sending good healing vibes your way. Maybe they will show them discovering the Sin Eater in the next episode. Otherwise, that will feel a little anti-climactic. I'm honestly not sure what does happen to Allan in the books. I know he had something to do with Malva, but I don't know all the details. It will be interesting to see what happens with him in the next two episodes. I know, it's hard to watch characters we care about suffer, especially poor Claire after all she's been through. Stay well, too! And yes, haha, she likes to listen in when she's not sleeping. Lol.
@@jenrecaps5901 Mentally I'm still processing the episode. I had to take a break halfway through and get some air. Realized I'd been staring wide eyed at the TV and gripping my recliner 👀. My dog even had a concerned look on her face! When I saw that I just started laughing I said let's go outside girl 🤣.
Haha, it definitely was a lot to take in. I actually pause a lot while watching the episodes cause I'm taking notes, so that gives me time to process what I just watched. But after watching the ending again, wow, that still left me with chills!
Accidentally hit enter so here's my episode comment! I loved this episode! It was a bit busy, as far as multiple things going on. Loved the opening scene and the Gaelic version of the Sky Boat Song. That makes voice is hauntingly beautiful!
I'm writing multiple comments to boost the algorithm.
Where to start next? Lord John! So wonderful to see him again! Auntie Jocasta too! ▶️
Malva.... The actress does a good job making us dislike Malva! She's so very creepy and manipulative! I think Roger should have told Brianna what Malva said. So dreading the upcoming drama with her!
Yes so excited they Brianna is pregnant with Amanda! Also will hope with you that they show Marsali and Fergus' life in New Bern! Didn't they change that from the books? I was so hoping we'd get to see them going to Scotland to get the printer and visit family. Bummer!
Funny to see Jocasta smoking the hemp flower😹 I'm trying to remember if Jamie publicly changed allegiance so fast. I totally missed that it was the sin eater that died. 🤷♀️ I think I'll read the book again this week. Wendigo Donner....I forget if he made it out alive or not?
Beautiful portrait Jen! I'm always in awe of people who can draw so well. Well done!
Thank you so much, Jaimie! I definitely can't wait to share more soon! 😊
Hello. Huge Outlander fan. Just discovered your recaps and going to go back to your first and watch each through. Its like listening in to someone's conversation on a subject you love. Your print of s1 behind you is wonderful. I wish I could find a print of the final scene of the opening credits. Craigh Na Dun and Outlander in bottom right corner. Such stillness and intent in that photo. Going back and listen to your first. Hello from my little corner of Massachusetts!
Hello! Welcome to my channel! Just a fair warning, I was getting used to talking in front of the camera in my earlier videos, plus I did not know how to edit back then, so they will be quite different from my current ones. I'm definitely making progress. 😊 I love that description of my videos! I used to love to talk about shows and explain what happened in them to my friends and classmates, and that is where my channel was born. Thank you! I got it from Amazon a few years ago. They might have some with the final scene of the opening credits on there, too. That definitely is a beautiful image. Thank you again for watching my videos! 😁
@@jenrecaps5901 I appreciate your kind reply. 🌻
Hi Jen! Thanks for the recap video! I always like to hear what others thought of the episode, especially book readers. I just watched the episode. I was out of town yesterday visiting family. Wow, this episode was amazingly good! I'm so glad they took the time to tell Ian's story of his time with the Mohawk. They did a really good job of it too. Yes the music was great. Very emotional scenes. Tugs at the heartstrings. Back at the ridge, Malva continues to be creepy! I think the actress does an excellent job playing the character though. She's quite young, so it's impressive. How creepy having very watch Jamie and Claire....😳 So this is where she sees the scar on Jamie's chest....😳 I'm not looking forward to the trouble she's going to cause! Oh how I wish we could get more episodes this season. Next weeks episode is going to be great. Lord John! I also love seeing Jocasta. This episode was great and the actors all did a really good job. Very believable. I find myself thinking of all the scenes from the books that I'd like to see on screen. Do you think they'll get the printing press storyline in? I hope that we get more than a mere nod to that storyline. Didn't they sail back to Scotland to retrieve it and see Jenny when they were there? I'm trying to remember. There's so much to fit in, so I hope they don't end it with season 7. What do you think? Have a great week!
Hi Jaimie! Thank you for watching! I have to admit, I am only on book 3 (I started reading after the show premiered). I have read details about the other books though so I am in the know of what might and might not come to pass on the show. Not sure if they'll bring the printing press storyline in. I do hope they return to Scotland so we can see Jenny again, though I think Ian Sr.'s death follows closely to that, right? I also wonder if Brianna and Roger will end up traveling back to their time by the end of this season. I do hope we'll get at least another two seasons after season 7. My fingers are crossed! It was such a great choice to show Ian's story rather than just tell it--it really explained so much of his change in character. I'm also always impressed when writers can tell a good and believable love story in just ten minutes. That's not easy! Jessica Reynolds is doing a fantastic job portraying Malva! She really has her curious and creepy mannerisms down! I really did not like her watching Claire and Jamie though--that scene was just the cherry on top of the creepy sundae! I'm really dreading the part where she starts making Claire suffer. Like, has Claire not been through enough?? Thank you! I hope you have a great week, too, and I'll see you for the next episode!
@@jenrecaps5901 I've had a copy of Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone since it came out and I haven't opened it yet! I think I really need to re-read all the books before I start it, because it's been so long since the last book came out. It's such a huge book, it's a bit daunting just to see it sitting there. 👀I believe it's larger than A Dance of Dragons. Another 2 books I hope to read, Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. I hope George R R Martin is going to release them. I read the first set in record time. This waiting for ten years is for the birds!
I got Bees as a Christmas gift, but I'm trying to get through the other books before I read it. I have to agree, it does look a little daunting. Those books sound good, too. Are they related to Game of Thrones or a separate series?
@@jenrecaps5901 A Game Of Thrones is the first book in the series of books. They're really good, but also gory. If you read the first book, A Game Of Thrones and enjoy it, you'd want to read the whole series. The saga is called A Song of Ice and Fire. The show didn't do the books justice.
Hi Jen! Thanks for your thoughtful recap. I really enjoyed this episode too. So many book references this season! It's like a book fan delight! Did we even see Alan Christie in this episode? I'm really hoping we get something with Brianna this season. They don't seem to have a storyline for her. Tom is so bizarre. The actor is doing a great job portraying him. Mostly what I remember is all hell breaking loose on the ridge all because of the Christie's. I'm curious and may re-read this book. The protestants are really causing trouble with their superstitious beliefs. It reminds us that maybe the Fraser's should be more cautious in what they say or do. Jamie, Claire, Roger and Brianna are all educated and forward thinking. Christie's are trouble. Malva is already hörin' aboot 👀 🤭 I love the time spent on Fergus and Marsali's story this week. Did you just cringe when Tom starts belting Malva? If Claire had known what he wanted his hand fixed for, she would've not done the surgery. The problem with it being episode 4 next week is that this season will be half over too fast! 🤯 I'm not ready for that! I hope you don't mind my long comments. And your cat is fine. You're talking so she thinks she should join in! My cats would do that. Or they pick that time to do naughty things😹 Looking forward to next week's episode. Stay well, and thanks again!
Hi Jaimie! I'm glad you enjoyed the recap and the episode! 😊 I'm glad they're using a lot of material from the book for this season. We did see Allan at least twice from what I can recount--when Fergus got in the fight and he stood up for the Protestant couple and when Malva is being punished and he can hear what is happening. Maybe the next episode will give him a little more focus. I feel like they're setting up Brianna for something. They're probably at least going to bring Mandy into the storyline and she will also continue making improvements on the Ridge with her engineering skills. Might have been a slight mistake to get rid of Bonnet before season 6, but at the same time, I like seeing her not having to worry about him. The frustrating thing about being kind and gracious like the Frasers---you can't just be that way with anyone and everyone. It will be interesting to continue to see how that all unravels throughout the season with the Protestants. I know Malva's going to be serious trouble for the Frasers. Pretty much every scene with Tom Christie makes me cringe (which means great acting!), but yes, the punishment scene was one of the worst! 😣 Too bad Claire didn't know what his intentions were. I know, that's crazy to think we'll be halfway done with the season! At least season 7 will be twice as long, but hopefully that also doesn't mean it will be the end. I'm not ready for that either! I don't mind the long comments at all! I like having thoughtful discussions with people. 😊 Haha, thank you---I think she also wonders who I'm talking to. The problem is, she doesn't know when to stop. Definitely something about that time of night. Thank you! Stay safe, too, and I'll see you next week! 😁
Hi Jen! Hope all is well. I've watched the episode 3 times in a row. I always miss small things, like Adso sitting on Major McDonald's redcoat in the opening card! That gave me a chuckle 🤭 I feel this episode set everything up in it's place. I love how many lines from the book they used. Jamie as the Crowns Indian Agent is interesting and I hope they include more of that this season and next. I laughed at how accurate the scene was when the women walked into Jamie and Ian's hut and tried to "show their appreciation"! 🤣 Quite comedic! I remember Hiram Crombies mother in-law death and re-death scene from the books. She was great, calling him a skinflint! 🤣 Tom and Jamie scenes are packed with unspoken but palpable tension. I'm glad Jamie set him straight. Meetinghouse, school for all. I did get tears when Marsali said she wanted ink and paper to write a letter in case she didn't make it. She reads Claire well. When Fergus comes in and says my love in French it's so sweet! The difficult birth of Henri Christian and Marsali's love for the baby was so heartwarming. Yes Bri's matches went over like a lead brick🤣 But hopefully we will get the birth of Roger and Bri's daughter soon! On the use of ether. No it's not in the book, but as someone who has struggled with severe PTSD since I was 18 you will do anything to numb the pain even thoughts of suicide. Luckily today we have excellent counselors and treatments to help us work through the terror we feel. People on fakebook need to get real. I so agree, Do not make it worse for survivors by typing insensitive comments. Very rude and lacking empathy for others! Now that I've written the longest comment ever, thank you for your thoughts on the recap. Anything you're excited to see in this season? BTW, the actress that plays Malva is really spot on with the character portrayal! That little smirk she gave Tom! 🤭
Aww, yes, Adso sitting on the jacket was so cute! It was nice to see him again. That's great that they took a lot of lines from the book. Haha, that scene with the women in his tent was quite hilarious. The awkwardness of it all! Okay, that's good to know that scene is from the book. It was so funny how she commented on all the details of her funeral and disapproved. Yes, poor Marsali. You rarely see her scared, but that moment really showed how afraid she was of the situation at hand. I definitely love that Fergus came through for her at least, but I do hope he will love his son, too. I felt bad that I left that part out and put it as an afterthought, but it was almost akin to what happened in the episode. Lol. Not that I want to only focus on them having a child, but knowing that that happens in the books, I do hope they have Mandy by the end of the season. They seem to be setting up for that. Regarding my message about the ether, thank you, and thank you for sharing. It is very good there is more help available to us these days. I thankfully have not struggled with any substances, but I have had to live with PTSD pretty much since I was a little kid. I understand how hard it can be, and it makes me mad when people are so insensitive online. They are indeed lacking empathy, which sadly applies to a lot of people and situations these days. I welcome long comments! Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts. I am mostly nervous for what is to come, but I am hoping to see Fergus find a way back to his family and curious to see how the set-up for the Revolutionary War plays out. And yes, that look Malva gives Tom was both empowering and scary at the same time, knowing how her character is in the book. 😬
Hi Jen! Hi Autumn! Glad to see you back! I thought the first episode was great. It set up the season very well. The sets are beautiful! Excellent production quality! ⚡SPOILER ALERT⚡ I'm so dreading the Malva storyline! A lot of tense moments coming up! But what would Outlander be without tense moments! New episode tomorrow! Be well! I have an older Border Collie that is my constant companion. She's been a lifesaver throughout the 'rona. I have many conversations with her! 🤣 Autumn is adorable! 💕🐾🐶
Hi Jaimie! It's so good to hear from you! Yes, the sets are beautiful---I love how the Ridge keeps getting bigger and better every season. Yes, not looking forward to the Malva storyline. I know poor Claire is about to go through a lot all over again. Just finished episode 2 last night and am prepping the video! That's so nice! I'm glad she's kept and continues to keep you company during these hard times. And thank you! She can be a little frustrating at times, but is no doubt cute and a comfort to have. 😊
Game of Thrones is real.....
This is Really Very Nice. Keep it up, Let's be friends.
nice video!
Hi Jen! Great recap! You left out the lovely bedroom scene! And Jamie looking at the little swimmers under the microscope! Lol! I'm thinking that Roger, Brianna and Jemmy ended up going nowhere! Jemmy's face like he recognized someone. Probably Ian and Rollo! Gosh I hope that's the case, because then they'll have to stay! They've no more gems! Really good episode, but I cried through most of it! 😭 Sam's performance was excellent! He really deserves am Emmy for this season! Caitriona also! I'm dreading the season finale! I sure hope they don't leave us on a cliffhanger with Claire! Diana is done writing the Tell the Bees book, but they're in the process of editing it, which she says could take some time. I'm not looking forward to the longest droughtlander ever, but I'm hopeful well get the new book before then. I hope your surviving lockdown okay. I'm immune-compromised, so I'm staying home until there's a vaccine I guess. I really miss my Mom, my daughters and my granddaughter! She just turned 3 and she loves her Gramma! She's my joy! I live alone with my border collie. The only people I see are my home health care nurses. So The only thing I have is Hope right now! Hope that a vaccine is fast tracked! Meditation helps a lot. Where do you think Roger and Bree are? Thanks for doing your recaps! And yes I'm looking forward to your drawings! I can't draw with a damn, but I'm musically inclined. My mother draws and watercolors. Beautiful work! See you next week! Be safe, stay well!
Hi! Thank you! Haha, whoops. Right, right...forgot to mention that part. So much happened and it was hard to keep track of all the moments. That is a good theory! If that is the case, then that is just rude of the stone circle to take their gems and drop them back off where they started. You could be right though. One theory I have is that they do return, and the land around them has changed a lot---perhaps they traveled further into the future, like closer to our time? I feel like it would be too early for the subplot of them traveling further back, especially since that involves more of their children. Sam and Cait do deserve an Emmy! They should also give them four more for the years that they missed giving them awards! I also hope they save Claire before the end credits roll in the finale. They might possibly leave it with her still in their custody though, since that might be a bridge into the sixth season. That's good that they're in the process of editing. Maybe it will come out around Christmas time. That would be nice. I'm sorry you have to spend so much time away from your family. Hopefully we will have a vaccine soon so things can, for the most part, go back to normal. Of course! Thank you for watching! Can't wait to share my artwork next week. 😊
Thing I Forgot to Mention Section: 1. Completely left out the moment that Jamie told Brianna she has a half brother! I love that he told her. Don't know if he tells her in the books, but if not, it was a great addition to the show. 2. Marsali is expecting a fourth child! 3. Roger gave Young Ian his land--it's so nice to see how much their bond grew this season. They truly trust each other now and have come such a long way since season 4. 4. Can we all just call peanut butter and jelly sandwiches "journeycakes" now? 😄
Hi Jen! Great review! You're right, Stephen Bonnet wasn't supposed to die until the end of book 6. Makes me wonder what season 6 will focus on. Brianna was smart not upsetting Bonnet, playing along until she could be rescued. Sophie and Ed did a fantastic job acting out their scenes together! It wasn't my favorite episode of the season, but it was very good. At least Brianna can't go on with her life now knowing that her tormentor is dead. That's so good for her mental well-being. Since they are including book 6 stuff in this season, I wonder what the next two episodes will be? I do know Diana wrote episode 511! So that should be excellent! Time to re-read a Breath Of Snow and Ashes! I am coping okay. One day at a time. One RUclips lady I follow said this. "Mother Earth has put us in time out for polluting her Waters, cutting down the rain forest, polluting the air, etc. This is her way of healing and catching her breath". That resonates with me. I love to watch the videos of how the animals have taken back over the city streets at night all over the Earth. My daughter is coping with it another way. She got very stressed out, so she decided to pretend like everything is fine, she's just a housewife for a while! She just graduated from the University of Utah so she deserves a break! I'm immune-compromised so I stay home much of the time anyway. I think the hardest thing for me is missing my girls and my Mother. Amazing how much we miss the human touch! Hopefully we will value life, the Earth and the things that really matter after this. Yes I've had little lizards in my house when I lived in Southern California. Here in the mountains of Utah it's usually a chipmunk in the house! Luckily I'm closer to town. People who live up the little canyons here find bears, raccoons and all manner of little beasties in their homes! My border collie keeps all that stuff away! Stay safe, stay well! Blessings to you and yours, including your Kitty! 😻🌷🕊️
Hi Jaimie! Thank you! I am glad to have that confirmed. I had a theory before, and I wonder if it will happen, where the season will end on a cliffhanger where Claire and Marsali are attacked and Claire is kidnapped by that group of men. That's one of the few spoilers I know of book 6. That's exciting that Diana wrote the next episode! Now I really can't wait to see it! I'm glad Brianna has peace of mind now. In a way, I'm glad her fears of Bonnet won't have weigh on her mind for another season. That is a possibility. Though I wish it could happen another, less unfortunate way, I am glad that mother nature is at least healing a little. Congrats to your daughter! That's awesome! That's good she has some time to rest. This really is a time when we learn just how important human connection is. Though it is not entirely a substitute, I am glad we have technology so we can all connect that way during this time. Oh my, I don't know how I'd react if I found a chipmunk in my house...I'd probably find it both adorable and scary at the same time. And I'd run out of my house if I found anything bigger! Lol. Thank you so much! See you next week! 😊
One thing I realized I didn't really dive into was Bonnet's feelings for Bree. Despite his main intention of inheriting River Run and Jocasta's fortune, a part of Bonnet did feel something for Bree, and hoped she might return those feelings. It was more so that he was attracted to her motherly ways, something that he missed during his childhood. However, his way of earning her affections were misguided, which would have resulted in a very toxic relationship. Thankfully, Bree knows better. I'm glad that Outlander includes messages like this, especially since this can, sadly, be applied to the present.
Hi Jen! Great review, as always! Omg, Autumn is so adorable! Busy pup! I absolutely loved this episode! 98% straight from the book! The acting was excellent and yes I cried again! 😭 Actually a couple of times! People who are always saying that Jemmy looks like Bonnet, I have this to say. Both of my daughters had super blond hair when they were little. As they got older it turned brown. It's really common. 😊 I can't think of this season ending! I'll re-watch every single episode and read all the books again! With the CV 19 pandemic, it could be awhile before they can shoot season 6. The whole world is going to be changed. No getting back to normal until a vaccine comes out. So we all live in this new normal. I'm isolating because I'm immune-compromised. It's going to be a long year waiting for a vaccine! At least I have a big yard and lots of open space where I can be alone. I hope you and your loved ones are all well. It's a scary time, but we're all in this together! See you next week! Blessings 💕🌷🌷🌷🌷🐕😻
Hi Jaimie! Thank you! Haha, yes, Autumn is definitely a busy pup. I agree, the acting was so amazing in this episode. I was close to crying when Jamie nearly died and Claire was telling him to stay with her. I am glad you brought that up. Genetics always have an interesting way of working sometimes. That is true. I do wonder when they'll be able to start filming season 6. I know things won't be 100% back to normal, but hopefully things will be safe soon and most of life can pick up where it left off. That is good that you are staying safe. Thank you so much! We're doing okay so far. See you next week. 😊
I apologize for the occasional jumps and random cut-offs. I was experiencing some technical difficulties. Also, to clarify a couple of things I said---dealing with Jemmy's physical traits, I meant Roger's parents, not Jemmy's parents. Also, when I said "great moment on the Ridge", I mean great as in everyone was working together to help save Jamie, so it was a nice dynamic to see. Just felt I needed to clarify those two things. Thanks you! 😊
Hi Jen! I liked this episode, but things were different from the books, so I was a bit confused! Actually Brianna goes hunting with Ian and is able to get him to talk. Maybe we'll still get that scene. The acting by Richard Rankin and John Hunter Bell was excellent! And thank goodness Rollo came back too! I wasn't so keen on the silent movie flashbacks. I think it could have been better achieved just showing the flashbacks. And we missed Jamie telling Governor Tryon what a grave mistake he made by not asking before hanging. Was something to the effect of you hung my son without asking for his name. Still I liked Ian and Roger going out to survey the land. It was well done! I really wish we had 24 episodes! Next week's preview looks pretty harrowing! It's sure to be a tear jerker! I'm going a little batty after sitting here by myself for three weeks or is it three years 😳...... I miss my family so much! Thanks for your review! See you next week! Stay safe, stay home!
Huh, that is interesting that they changed that. I do hope they add a scene of Brianna and Ian bonding. Maybe she'll get more of the story from him, since he didn't tell Roger the all the details. Yes, both Richard and John were great together! It was great seeing their characters bond and help each other out. The silent movie flashbacks were definitely different. I'll admit it was an interesting choice, but I liked the metaphor behind it. Aw, man! I would have loved that scene! Hopefully Jamie will be telling the Governor off more in the future. It looks like Jamie and Roger will be bonding more maybe in the next episode, so I'm excited to see that. I wish it was a longer season, too. We could use it right now. I'm not ready for another tearjerker episode! Could it be the famous moment where Jamie gets bitten? I completely understand. It is hard being apart from people, especially family and friends. Hopefully this won't last too much longer and life will resume as much as it can again. Thanks for watching! See you for episode 9. 😁
Omg, I just finished watching and I was bawling my eyes out! I think Jamie's reaction to Murtagh's death was heart wrenching! That's what really got me. Once I saw Roger meet Morag I knew that was coming. I didn't think it would happen in the same episode. Why 2 weeks! I'm going to go batty! Best episode this season. Jamie talking about losing his Dad, then Murtagh, then Roger. Jamie will blame himself for what happened to Roger. What a surprise to see William Buccleigh MacKenzie played by Graham McTavish! I thought my eyes were fooling me, but the voice gave it away! Unfortunately we aren't done with The Brown's. Sorry to say. You're right, It added so much to the story to have Murtagh alive! Going to miss his character! Thanks for the video Jen! Someone else to cry with! Be safe and stay well!
Yes! Jamie's reaction to Murtagh's death broke my heart. He was trying so hard to save him. I'm sure he will feel a lot of guilt for Murtagh and Roger. I think I was so busy worrying about Roger that it didn't occur to me that that was Graham. When I watched it again, I finally recognized the voice and the eyes! That is amazing that they brought him in to play another role. I wonder if he will continue to. Ah, darn. I'm worried to see what else they have to bring to the drama. Indeed, Murtagh will be very missed. Thank you for watching and I hope all is well with you. 😊
@@jenrecaps5901 Staying safe at home. I live in a small mountain town in Utah, US, so we're very lucky to have a smaller population and lots of outdoors to walk in. I'm immune-compromised so I have to stay home. When it gets warmer I'll spend some days in the mountains, but I'm used to being alone. You stay healthy also!
Oh my---how did I miss that that was Graham MacTavish??? Summon Dougal, you did, Jamie.
Wasn't that cool!
Thanks Jen for the recap! I really liked this episode also! Fun surprise to go back to the 60's! (Or was that forward 😳) I didn't expect Jamie killing Knox, but then I thought about it and it makes sense. Family or Knox.....I like seeing Claire in her surgery, but miss the syringe made from a rattlesnake tooth from the books! No I don't recall Roger ever apologizing to Brianna! I think that was a first! I'm going to get the book out and see what this fight is about next week! The season is hopping along! Thanks for your review. Take care and be safe and healthy!
Yes, it definitely does make sense. I didn't mention this, but I also wonder if the British are going to suspect Regulators had something to do with Knox's death, causing more tension. I do remember that detail about the rattlesnake tooth, but I had forgotten about it. That would have been interesting to see what they came up with. Haha, that's what I thought. It was nice hearing him say it out loud finally. Yes, this season is going by so quickly. We're already at the halfway point next week. Thank you for watching! And thank you, I will. I wish you the same. 😊
Hi Jen! I really liked this episode! It was really close to the book. Personally, I thought Roger did an excellent job diffusing the situation with whiskey and song! Wow, he's got such a great voice! I loved hearing him sing an old Scottish tune! Jamie doing the sword dance was awesome! Brianna did a great job acting and I loved her with Marsali. Don't you just love Brianna's wig this season! In the books, Jamie doesn't get mad at Roger. I wonder why they're setting it up that way? In the books he calls him Son of my house. Great scenes with Jamie and Claire! Touched my ❤️! The Brown's are a bit of an odd bunch. I know this won't be the last we see of them. Can't wait for next weeks episode! Do you think Roger and Brianna will have it out concerning Bonnet? Does he know she went to visit him in jail? Could be some conflict happening there! Great recap! See you next week! Have a lovely day ☘️
Hi Jaimie! Yes, I love how much Roger has gotten to sing this season so far! Richard's voice truly is amazing. And Jamie's dance was wonderful, too! Sophie is doing amazing this season. I honestly have not been paying too much attention to the wigs, but her hair does look good now that she's adjusted to the 18th Century. I think the writers want a little more conflict between Jamie and Roger, maybe to set up an emotional scene or the make their hunt for Bonnet even more powerful. I'm interested to see what role the Browns will play in all of this. Something tells me they'll be causing some issues. I don't think Roger knew about Brianna visiting Bonnet. He seems surprised in the preview when he finds the ruby that Bonnet gave her. I feel that Roger and Brianna may have a small fight, but hopefully, she'll actually talk to him about her experience instead of bottling up her feelings, and that much will at least get resolved. Thanks again for watching! See you next week! 😊
Also, I did forget to mention a couple of moments from the episode... 1. Jamie's dance! That was something different and fun! 2. Claire's medical flier accidentally got sent to the printer in the last episode and in this episode, we saw that it ended up getting published in the paper. I wonder how that will come back to haunt her.
Thanks for the recap Jen! I think the foreshadowing about Jamie not wanting to die like Mr Beardsley (Weirdsley lol!) has to do with a certain thing that happens to Jamie, and Claire has to use maggots to eat away dead tissue on Jamie's leg. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. But I think that we will see that this season. I was glad that we got this episode! It was spookier than the book, and some things changed, but overall I loved it because it was such an interesting part of the book. Things I miss from the book that they are not incorporating into this season is the interaction and friendships that they have with the local Cherokee. Last season the Native American actors added so much to the story! If they do away with Malva Christie I won't mind. Next week will be good! Get some action! I hate that they left Brianna unguarded. Trouble? See you next week! Thanks again!
You're welcome! That sounds like a disturbing scene waiting to happen. I know a snake gets involved at some point, and I am not looking forward to that. It was definitely an adventure I was not expecting for Jamie and Claire. Despite it being a weird/creepy scenario, I loved that they were going through it together. I hope they do include those friendships, or at least make mention of it. I did enjoy seeing some of the Native American culture in the last season. From what I gather, Malva is a complicated character. Her arc does bring a dramatic subplot into book 6 I read, so that would be interesting if they do keep her. Yes, very excited to see what will happen in the next episode! I am afraid for Bree. I get the feeling they're setting up a possible Bonnet moment there. As always, thanks for watching! I love hearing your thoughts. : )
Thanks Jen, I really liked this episode. The 2 women fighting were whores who were mad because 1 got to sleep with a guy they both wanted as clients. I got the sense that Bonnet was the client. Anyway, I'm excited for next week which goes over the creepy Beardsley family from the books. Yes lieutenant is pronounced differently by the British. It is originally a French word basically meaning second in command. I don't recall the brothel fight in the books. But that was hard to watch. See you next week!
Ah, okay! That does make some sense now. Thank you for answering my questions! I am looking forward to the next episode, too. I am very interested to see exactly how the Beardsleys are.
Hi Jen! I loved this episode! It has everything! I too cried, and laughed and cried again in the last scene where Jamie sent Murtagh away. Powerful scene! You see Jamie's tears falling as he kneels down. So hard for him to do! What did you think about the big house! Omg, it's bigger than I ever pictured in the books! Overall 10/10! I think with Sam and Caitriona producing we're in for a great season! So happy the season started! You're the first person I've seen review it tonight! Blessings!
Yay, I am happy to be the first! Yes, that scene was so heartbreaking! I really am afraid for what the future has in store for Jamie and Murtaugh. The house was so nice! I completely forgot to mention that. They have built such a nice home for themselves on the Ridge. I am very happy they get to be producers this season. So far, I am thrilled by season 5 and I am excited (and nervous) to see how the rest of the season goes.
There were so many moments in 5x01 that I didn't get to discuss, so I will simply post a list right here: 1. Jamie and Claire being grandparents! It was wonderful to see them with their grandson! 2. Jamie and Brianna's father/daughter relationship! I am glad they have mended their bond. Plus, Claire's dream of seeing Brianna getting married came true! 3. Roger claiming Jeremiah as his son! 4. The oath ceremony was so powerful and a great way to bring back the Scottish culture that we witnessed in season 1! 5. Jamie breaking down in tears after telling Murtaugh to leave. That broke my heart! I hope you guys enjoyed the video and the season 5 premiere!
