4 Cinematic Shots in Netflix & A24 Style – BMPCC 6K Pro Showcase
These cinematic shots were filmed while testing the IRIX 45mm and 21mm lenses in low-light conditions on the BMPCC 6K PRO. The visuals are inspired by the moody, captivating atmosphere of popular Netflix and A24 shows. My friend and talented actor Tommy helped bring these scenes to life, resulting in an impressive final look that showcases the potential of shooting in challenging lighting conditions. For those interested, I have detailed lighting setups and techniques shared in videos on my channel. I’d love to hear your feedback! Don’t forget to subscribe for more filmmaking content.

Can I ask what codecs did u use on the bmpcc 4k? I’ve just run into so many issues trying to get that perfect cinema look, buying money on lenses etc… what was your approach to color?
Thanks for this question. The truth is, that achieving a cinematic look is all about a comprehensive approach to every technical aspect of the image. Honestly, the codec would likely be the last factor to consider if everything else is set up correctly. There’s no magic fix-only a complete approach. You can even use an older camera and still achieve a pretty cinematic image. The key to a cinematic shot lies in the power of composition, the right cinematic lighting, the right lens choice, and then the technical grading. On my channel, you’ll find videos shot on an old Canon 60D this year that look cinematic, as well as ones shot on a 6K Pro that have the same cinematic feel. Try to find an approach to the image that makes you happy. For example, look at my Instagram for lighting references-there are many simple yet effective setups you could replicate and then analyze to understand why they work. Regarding the codec, I shot this in ProRes 422. Hope this helps!
las corrientes cinematográficas están de vuelta.
You are right, my friend!🎥👍
Thanks for this great comparison. I already have the 45mm and it’s a versatile lens that is fantastic as a first lens in my cine kit. I will soon shoot a music video indoor and I will most probably need a wider lens. Did hesitate between the 21mm and the 30mm? What was the decisive factor for choosing the 21mm for your work?
Thanks for the comment. Look, for filming, you need a working range that isn’t extreme but still noticeable. If you go with 45mm and 30mm, you’ll see very little difference in framing, especially in a small space. I’d suggest considering the 30mm after you already have the 45mm and 21mm.
@@Filmmaker_SZ Thank you for the quick response. Much appreciated 👍🏻 First I thought that the 21mm would have too much distortion when shooting close to a person but after seeing your footage it looks pretty good. So I’ll add the 21mm to my wish list next. Keep up you great work.
Great! We'll keep in touch!

yes great video...thanks
Great. Simple gear and clear explanation! More of this kind would be super welcome.
Thanks for the comment - it helps bring simple but effective lessons to a wider audience. I drop something interesting every month, so stay tuned!
lowlight performance is pretty bad here 1:17 my budget chinese phone shoots better. what the heck
It's not just about the gear, it's also about the skills. Unfortunately, I don’t see you showing any results, even shot on your phone. Meanwhile, over 20,000 people have watched this video-and it seems like they enjoyed it. Thanks for watching, though! I'm sure you learned a lot from it.
What is the program you use to draw the light plan?
My team and I are currently working hard on an app that will offer this functionality. If you send me a message on Instagram, I’ll let you know when we launch the app (expected in the next three months).
This is useful b/c I’m hoping to do a video soon in a cave. I’m planning to use several 60W lights b/c the black rock cave walls absorb light like crazy, and cross lighting is absolutely necessary to get depth of field.
A good solution. You might also want to check out the new lights from Small Rig - RC-100B: smallrig.com/r/NY3YJ4 They are twice as powerful, though you'll need additional V-mount batteries for them.
@@Filmmaker_SZ thx for the suggestion. I’m rather intimidated with this project, and i must do it soon because the caves will be raining groundwater by November. I have Sirui 60W lights. I hesitate to use much more powerful lights because they will drain batteries quickly, and the 970 batteries I have last 80 minutes or more. Just enough time for what I need to do-I hope
@@GeologyDude Good luck! And then share the result.
Straight to the point and simple. Very good.
Thanks!😊
Would love to hear your voice :)
Very soon, I’ll be releasing shorts with my own voice. However, the majority of videos will still feature the voice of my friend and voice actor, Jason. My goal is to keep things simple and clear, and I want to stick to that approach in creating my content. Thank you for your message!
Did the dzl 21mm and 40mm vespids color match ..a few not many are saying they don’t match when using together. Some say the 21mm is warmer .
Thank you for your question! I really enjoy creative and technical questions! Perhaps some people have encountered such issues with the DZO 21mm and 40mm lenses, but personally, I’ve had complete color consistency between them.
What did u grade this in ? What lut did u use ?
I usually shoot a raw video and then we work on the color with my colorist.
I really appreciated the video
Thank you😊
excellent very hard 🔥✅
Thanks!🔥
How much Kelvin is the temperature in the camera since you have 2 different lighting, 2700 Kelvin at the bottom and 5600 at the beginning?
Approximately 4000K is set in the camera. But it's important to note that a "Deep Blue" gel filter is applied on the 5600K light. The blue tint we're seeing comes from the filter, not the color temperature itself.
Looks great! What frame rate and shutter speed did you shoot in?
Thank you for your kind words and comment! 25fps, shutter angle 180.
What’s your go-to technique for lighting nighttime interiors? Do you prefer powerful lights or smaller, more precise ones? 🎥🎬I’d love to hear your thoughts!
What’s your favorite trick for creating cinematic magic? 🎥In this video, I show how to get awesome results with just three compact lights and a camera. I’d love to hear how you make your own projects stand out-any favorite gear or techniques? Drop a comment and let’s chat! 💡🔥
The shot is so insane. It looks like a shot from euphoria
Thanks, mate! This video is partly inspired by Euphoria and other themes about addiction!

thank you
You are welcome!😊
Nice
Thanks a lot!
good job men 😍
Thanks a lot!
Jeez, the amount of noise tho. some fill light wouldve come great
Hey, please watch the video more closely! The goal of the video was to create a cinematic scene at night using just two 60-watt lights-no generator and crew. Where did you see additional lights for filling in? Thanks for your comment and kind words!
Love when someone explains to me how they shoot the shoot man i wanna do cinematography so bad rn 😢
Just give it a try once and you’ll see that you can do it. Independent filmmaking is your path to realizing your dream, so just go for it once!
This is one topic I have always been interested in. Mostly because I only have budget for couple of cine lenses and am trying to decide on a 2 lens combo for versatile shooting. Great video!
Thanks for this comment - it means a lot to me. My goal was to visually demonstrate different visual experiences using various lenses. I always try to create content that I wish I had access to when I was starting out.
@@Filmmaker_SZ Well you're succeeding. Wish you the best!
One of the more clear lighting explanation videos I've seen as of yet! The combo between real world BTS and the diagrams make it very easy to understand the thought process and execution. Do you use a specific software for these lighting diagrams?
Thank you for your comment and kind words! If you haven't already, you can check out other recent videos on the channel; I consistently strive to use this style. Also, you'll find more diagrams on my Instagram, feel free to follow! I've been using an image pack for diagrams from C-lovers, but they no longer sell it. Perhaps in the future, I might create my pack and make it available to our community, but that's not certain yet)))
@@Filmmaker_SZ Will do, thanks!
nice Story
Thank you so much!
An interesting review. Are the IRIX's lens really good?
Thank you! In my opinion, IRIX lenses are very good, especially if you need a modern, sharp image.
very well explained, thank you
Thank you for your kind words and support!
love this lighting diagrams.. thank ya sir..
You're very welcome! I’m glad you like this setup.

Привет А я только купил ! Жду утром !!
Great tool! Congratulations on your purchase!
nice work!!!! 👍👍👍❤ I have a question , Didn't you get vignetting when you used the black magic camera?
Hi! Thank you for your kind words! I've been shooting with various BM cameras for many years, and honestly, I haven't encountered any vignetting issues. The BMPCC6K Pro isn't full-frame, but I used full-frame lenses-and at some point, I noticed that if I want to get the minimum crop of the image, I need to shoot in BRAW 6K. That way, I’m using the maximum sensor area, and the image is actually larger than expected. Other than that, everything is great! What has your experience been like?
@@Filmmaker_SZ When I used this lens and black magic camera, I was afraid of vignetting , Thank you for your kind explanation I'm always enjoying the ur video !!!!!!!!!!
@@임진우-m8p Thank you! I hope my experience will help you! Stay in touch!
Nice work !👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Neat video. But that man needs to cut down on the smoking. It's outta control!😄
Hey mate, thanks for your comment! Honestly, I love comments because they create a connection between us and I realize that the videos I make are worthwhile! Yes, smoking is a visual cliché I often exploit-I need to come up with something more interesting for the actors-I'll work on that! Although, of course, the main goal of my videos is to teach cinematic lighting and image work.
@@Filmmaker_SZ Haha the video was great. I was just being good natured. I actually prefer when videos like this are exaggerated because it makes it much easier to see what the creator is trying to teach.
@@Chromedbustop Thanks for your kind words and sense of humor. You mentioned liking 'exaggerated' videos; do you find mine to be so? Is my explanation clear, and do you think you could apply what I teach in practice?
Loved it...funny cause I have the same smallrig lights and my image still looks horrible as opposed to yours which look amazing..thank you for showing the set up.. I learned from it
I really appreciate every comment under my videos-thank you for your thoughts and I'm glad to hear my content is useful to our community. I always say that it's not just about the equipment, but understanding how it works and what results you can achieve with it. I strive to create clear and visual content so that anyone can understand the reasoning and replicate the results for their creative projects. Thanks again for your comment!
@@Filmmaker_SZ you are absolutely right...this is why I find your channel very helpful...It's easy to understand how you use those equipments...please keep the blessings coming...we are hungry for knowledge out here and do need a lot of contents like yours...so thank you very much!
Thank you, my friend! I will continue to make content!
@@Filmmaker_SZ can't wait...thank you!
Great video! Thank you for sharing! I’ll definitely be taking some notes from this!
Thank you for your support! It's great that you wrote about this!
Thank you for showing your lighting setup, I've learned a lot! Can you tell me what temperature you set the Blackmagic 6k to?
Thank you so much! 4000K.
Great work. Why didn't you shoot braw?
Thank you! I love the simplicity and ease of ProRes, but it looks like I'll soon be switching to BRAW, considering Blackmagic is gradually moving away from that format.
@@Filmmaker_SZ I also think prores has less noise in the shadows than braw too.
I haven't worked much with BRAW, but I think if you nail the exposure, it should pull details out of the shadows well. Could you share your experience with BRAW?
