haha I'll let you in a secret, *I played on the easier difficulty* ;) while I'm fairly decent at combat games (played a lot of Souls games) but even then, I just don't have the time to sit here and die against bosses or fights for hours on end, it took me 80hrs to 100% the game and DLC, I wouldn't have wanted to make that 90hrs banging my head against the wall, I just wanted to complete the game, and it made it so much better and enjoyable for me. In fact I did that for the Horizon games as well, cause they are so long I just wanted to make sure I completed them at all, let alone get stumped along the way. Used some accessibility options and difficulties to make it easier and faster. I did mentioned two spoilers I knew of, the horse was one. Friend in Discord streamed it years back on release, and I caught that scene, he was SO upset, and when I go close to the part where it happens in chapter 3, I suddenly remembered what was about to happen, absolutely sucked the emotions out of that scene for me. Glad to hear you enjoyed it that much! That's a long time gaming, and we've come a long way in the last few decades, cheers to many more!

@@Splucked not even video made wise, I mean I played this when I wasn't available to take notes or record for a few months, when everything what in another room so, just trying to complete this along with Sea of Stars the same time, wanted to make sure I played the most efficiently difficulty wise. My PC is decently ok, I have a 2080 super but I'll always be console for the simplicity of it all, I can't wrap my head around all the PC stuff 😂That and tech issues frustrate me to no end. That and it's so loud, a fan broke and now it starts to overheat as well lol oof, the uh, pro. I'm down here in Australia so uh, that $700 USD is retailing for $1200 AUD ... I'm a physical game collector when I can. I just bought Astro Bot physical as well :/ so I need that disk drive ($160) I need the stand ($50) my desk in office, or TV centre in bedroom cannot have a giant slab of a PS5 laying down. I can legitimately would be shelling out $1400, which is... well, I cannot even describe out fkn outrageous this is, in pricing for Aus. That's getting close to $1k USD. For a mid gen refresh, where the PS6 would be 3-4 years away to put down another $1k+ for a base model no doubt, just to run things a bit better, when we were promised solid 60fps and 1440-4k on release base PS5. This seems egregious. Sony is acting like Apple, charging a premium for the product. With the lack of competition from Xbox being so far behind the gen, and Nintendo living in their own world doing whatever they please to great success on cheaper hardware, Sony is for a change aiming to definitely make a profit on this, opposed to traditionally a loss on most consoles, making up for it in software in the past. I'm not a fan of the price, and lack of stands/disk drives. Sets a dangerous president for PS6, and physical people like me (Who I know are a dying breed but, damn man...) also the video presentation sucked, they didn't convince anyone properly, showing off older games that ALREADy looked INCREDIBLE, wild choice. /rant haha sorry

Loved Steve Burke's recent report over on Gamers Nexus about the PS5 Pro announcement. Agree with every point you made here; especially physical ownership. Big fan. Re: PCs - First time in my life I've been able to buy a decent, non OEM prebuilt and BAM! Forked by Intel. GPU is a 4070, which is nice, but the CPU prevents me from taking it for a real ride. If/when the current CPU dies, they'll just replace it with an identical CPU. Can't win.

@@MyLivingLegacy This is exactly what almost everyone says when there is a critique of GoT. But yeah generally its harder to create a great open world game compared to great non-open world game.

Really? For me one of the best open-world ARPGs I've played along with Witcher 3. Visually it's stunning, the storyline is a masterpiece, the combat mechanics are spot on and the platforming content is challenging without being frustratingly difficult.

​@@khy6330 There is a lot of valid critisism that is often dismissed with sony exclusives for some reason. With GoT objective criticism is that it: 1) lacks in enemy variety 2) boring typical ow stealth mechanics and stupid AI that doesn't even bother looking for you after you triggered alarm 3) world is pretty empty (i will explain later) 4) most sidequests are boring garbage that felt like work 5) Duels are lame since you're basically stripped to defending options in them, since it makes no sense to start offense when you can just wait for a perfect parry, it also tracks enemy very poorly causing you to whiff attacks for no reason. They are also aids on lethal and without certain talisman they feel infuriating. 6) Lot of tailing missions, yes they sucked in AC, they suck here as well, there is just no way to make them fun ever. 7) Some scenes of peasants thanking you are unskippable 8) Climbing sections of this game are really boring, because there is no way to actually fail them. So it makes shrines just slightly time consuming pieces of the game 9) Fox dens just exist 10) Bamboo cutting is also there 11) No real rewards for hokku/haiku, you can like them or not like them, so at least you can skip them if you don't like them and not lose anything yeah 12) There are too many mongol camps and in the later game they're just too big, they're not hard to do, they just consume your time and energy 13) Remember the scene when they capture Jin with bonk to the back of the head? that was stupid, stupid af I mean the rest are subjective critique like me not really liking the story, not liking and caring about anyone not named Kenji. Feeling that characters just don't really mesh together really well. I am not saying the game is bad, but that its a good game but not near masterpiece like people usually try to convince us.

@@basedalex Many of your criticisms are opinions, and as everyone has differing opinions I won't attempt to debate yours as all opinions can be equally valued, if not equally valuable. For the rest: 1. Cliche critique I've heard made against many RPG games, whether true or not. 2. Yes, it has stealth but it's a SAMURAI game, fighting is done face to face (honorably), not by stabbing your enemy in the back, etc. (dishonorable), it's part of the mystique of that period of time in that region of the world. The storyline reflects this when you poison the entire mongol camp and are branded ronin and outlaw because of it. 3. You never explained later so nothing to comment on. 4. Opinion. 5. Opinion. Try using a different build/playstyle that doesn't focus on parries. I used a fire/fear build and rarely ever waited around for parry chances. Or try an archer build where you are rarely even in melee to need to parry. 6. Opinion. 7. Rampant Impatience? 8. You can miss jumps and fall to your death. No, it doesn't make the climbs forever undoable but having to start over is failing. And, no, the platforming aspects are not exceptionally difficult. Personally, I found them enjoyable. 9. And your point is? 10. And your point is? 11. Ok, I tend to agree on Haikus, really the only point in doing them is 100% completion. 12. The game was truly amazing. It was one of the very few open world games I didn't find myself hating after going for the 100%. Also imagine watching someone play it in a discord call. Pfft, who would even do that

@@MyLivingLegacyI don’t know if something is wrong with me but I find the lack of constant combat and action especially during traversal and the long unskippable cutscenes boring. Small little things annoy me too like taking a bit to find the entrance into a mongol camp or being unable to evade immediately during combat unlike with the parry. Haiku is not worth grinding. “Remember The Past” which is an event like Haiku is very boring and can’t be skipped and is long. You are forced to choose between appearance and armour stats because you cant costumise your look the way you want without compromising on the stats you want. The only thing that can be changed without changing stats is the head and face

I can 100% understand some of that criticism. Like, the open world section, I went heavily in on negatively, that damn alert system made no sense to the degree it was made, felt pointless fighting anything, very frustrating. The game honestly would have been better if it was just corridor based like the opening few hours, like a Bioshock game. It would have helped it more, and have a more interconnected location underground that way.

I played in english and I think it was mostly main characters VA, it was fairly *ok* but a lot was 100% cringe, it made it very hard to like his character overall. Some of the side characters weren't the greatest but they barely played a role tbh, thank god Charles the glove had good VA, it carried the game hard.

I will say now it's been a few days, not entirely happy with this video, feel like I once again ranted a little too much in parts, I didn't have the gameplay footage at ALL to backup any of my talking points, and two videos on Atomic Heart at these lengths are too much. I'll try my best to cover everything more in depth in full scripted video next but yeah, this game seems so much better than what most people *terminally online* said it was, and it's 100% one of those games where, listening to the minority doesn't speak for the actual product. LIke you said, def has some flaws, but, overall, a first game from a new dev? This is pretty damn great man, punching well above their weight, and I can't wait to see what happens in a sequel. Yeah even tho I never played it final 6 months cause I was burnt out too, it’ll be sorely missed for those that played it over the years off and on. Wasn’t another fan service game like it tbh

some great lore about FF stuff here, which honestly many not many people know or remember that often cause it's so old now, love to see it! The devs really did pay so much homage and love to the OG games, and tried super hard to bring things to life for the first time, or recreate things. I truly think the devs who worked on this over the years were super passionate hardcore FF fans through and through. There's so many things we never got to see, as let's be honest there isn't another FF game that would have done what DFFOO was doing or will ever again, but I'm glad we got what we did, and the game resonated with so many people.

Nah to be honest not at all to me. DFFOO was on its last legs way before EC came out, as a small CC for DFFOO and a Discord of DFFOO peeps, nobody but maybe 3-5 of us tried EC. Currently only 1 other than me play it that I know of, games even somehow more niche than DFFOO lol it's a miracle DFFOO lasted as long as it did, considering it's size. I don't think EC will last half it's length for example.

Yeah sadly that's actually not the case, not many companies at all ever have put the time and money into making a live service game a retail version to sell. I don't believe Sqex has ever done it, I've watched them shut down Mobius and Star Ocean that I played for years myself now, I could see in my head a version where it's offline kinda, where we all start from scratch and as we progress through more story and account ranks we get access to more weapons and materials, a good few hundred hours of content there, but that would require a lot of time and rebalancing the full game to work like that, so basically money. Sqex isn't known for good money making choices lol It's a shame to think all those game assets are just, gone now, lost. It's so weird, so much work over 7 years, never to see the light of day again, just sad man.

@@MyLivingLegacy I should have specified that square has never done it. but I think I have seen a few gacha's get repurposed as stand alone releases, though the only specific notable one i can think of off hand is the "megaman x dive offline " that is soon to release Though maybe we can get similar treatment for omnia opera if we keep pestering square lol. It really was a great game at its core, the bravery system works so well in a turn based jrpg its insane.

oh no dw I got what you meant, the Megaman one was the only one I as well had thought of, somebody else in the comments said that too. Sadly it's a dime a dozen, the money and time it would take to revamp the whole game to balance that out single player wise no gacha would be a lot for a 7 year old product, would be incredible tho. Yeah as I mentioned in the video, I truly do think the battle system is one of a kind for how simple as it's core it is, it's so in depth with so many units, I don't know if we'll ever see a turn based system like this ever again, it really sucks lol

Also, characters were no longer niche (element enchanters/imperilers, tanks, etc). Characters like Iris, Setzer, Quina, Aerith, Rubicante, Kelgar that shut down all boss mechanics or characters were overtuned like Iris, Garnet, Aranea, etc... I tried playing with favorites only, but it got to a point in the FR era where even the specific team building this game was built on was non-existent because ONE unit could grind you through content.

Yeah, I tried to make the video as general as possible In terms of explaining things incase people ever look back on things but you and I playing a long time know it was Kam that broke it, and started the trend of garbage FR era. You're right in the sense that, there may be something to the fact you can't change a characters kit like that if people spent money but, I truly think they should have and labeled it as a bug and fixed it anyway. I was one of the few who did not use Kam, I usually would be happy to engage in meta stomping, and while I did later cause like you said, too many FR's become generic 50-75% boosts in any team, none required niches, so it was hard not to meta things, I didn't wanna make it too easy unless I was busy IRL, but man, it snowballed so fast from Kain and Krille which I got both, to Kam and it was like, fuck lol Also yeah I tried to emphasise the niches and different playstyles characters had, or used to have, before FR ruined it all, hopefully I got that across well enough. It just become so boring, Tifa is my girl, will ride or die for her but man, using Tifa, or Rinoa for AOE, for literally months, and using tickets to get random things in between for me, what was the point. By the games end, before I spent all my gems before closure on random stuff they added for EOS, I had around 1.3 million gems, 1.1 was F2P, like, that's ABSURD. I stopped buying mog pass cause I didn't even need that $5 boost a month on anything anymore, I had every EX in the game, only missing less than 10 LD's, and FR's were pointless and never missed a BT, there's such a thing as too MUCH of a good thing, and while it's fun getting everything and savings tons, there comes a point where, why am I even playing, when I don't have to make choices anymore in summons, or in fights and content Thanks for taking the time to write out comments to read Ritz, much love

It sounds strange, but I'm still not done "grieving" over DFFOO, but wholesome, analytical and critical videos like this help me out a lot. You have a clear love for the game, but you have no issue pointing out the flaws, even when it came from something positive, and holding it's feet to the fire. @@RitzMalheur I don't think many people will be done grieving for a while, I'm just glad I left on my own terms before the end cause it would have hurt a whole lot more otherwise, but I'll always remember it fondly. Making this new channel back in Jan was a big thing for me, to slowly over time just cover random games I like and want to talk about, and so it finally gave me a chance to make a deep dive video on something so important like DFFOO. I've only ever made crappy summons videos and runs for dffoo otherwise lol, and prior other gacha games years back, so these types of videos are very new to me to make and script, edit etc but I'm glad with how it turned out, and I'm really happy some people have fond comfort in them, especially something that is important like DFFOO, I myself have anyway. I've watched the full video back a few times already just to remind myself of what we lost, and I'm sure I will over the years. Many thanks again Ritz, brightened my day a lot seriously.
