Revit - Basic Understanding of Ceiling Geometry
In this video you'll be introduced to Revit's ceiling. You'll learn the pros and cons of using the automatic tool when creating them, as well as how to edit their height.
You'll learn what's the difference between ceilings and other horizontal geometry (floor and roof) and in which views you can see ceilings and why.
The plan used in this video was created using an autocad drawing found on the link below:

    10:25 that it is happening for a very complex reason - however you play with materials, those modifications are not really applied to each texture (in the material tray), all your play it is virtual and it sticks only to each face/object in your model, the actual material in your model still remains the original that you have imported, and Sketchup knows it, and remember it like forever, it just doesn't tell you that it knows. When you actually see that.? Well, when you make unique texture once (because Sketchup makes unique the actual original texture, and not your modified version); and twice, when you combine texture, because when you do that, Sketchup (sometimes) actually makes all those textures unique in the first place without even tell you, and you end up asking yourself "What the h.ll just happened.?" The solution... it is also complex...! 1) First, if your play it is not only local (for that particular face/object), and you know you are going to use it in other places too (or for combined texture, or to make it unique) you forget about "texture position" for the most part - for the size, you have to make a one to one face match with the size of your texture through your material tray edit, and then position it in the corner of your face so that the position matches your one to one size (do not resize it, just position it). 2) For the tone and color... do whatever you wanna do... BUT, after all your play you have to do one more essential thing...! 3) In "Material Tools" extension of ThomThom, there is an option called "Apply Colour Adjustments", and only after that you will have written all you play in the actual material tray texture; and you can check that with the "Reste color" button in the material tray, because only now that button won't be active and won't do nothing, cause now Sketchup recognize your modifications as written inside the texture itself. 4) Now make it unique, and it will remain exactly the same as you wanted. 5) Do that for every texture you want to combine, and after that, when you combine texture, it will be what you wanted to be. I'm not a native English speaker, but I hope all this story... it makes sense...! :) We are learning from you..., and you are learning from us...; well, all this story... because I feel like you are not doing it like a robot, but as from your heart... sort of. :)

      Hi @dementecato I'm not sure how good Revit would be in that case, as it's a software designed to work with industry "standards" and what you do is, by default, outside of the standard. That being said, Revit could be good for mass studeis? As a natural builder, maybe something like Rhino would be better, as it easier to create complex organic geometry with it.

    Revit = fast for architect, but doesnt help much for interior designer. too basic. Need to deal with families type for variation especially door & windows. Mean, it good for technical drawing, schedule, report ( documentation part ).. But when come to rendering, the 3D model are crap and ugly. I found Revit good for engineers & architect, because easy for structure analysis etc ( Naviswork, Prota, Tekla etc ). Interior designer need a program that can handle high poly 3d model, organic modelling tools, and realistic render engine. Easy to say.. Architect & engineer = need to show design concept, practicality, MEP, structure analysis, etc.. ( 4D and 5D which mostly in 2D drawing and documentation ) Interior designer ( ID ) = only certain part of above but it will focus more to how 'beautiful' for whatever concept. This is why most ID use 3dsmax, Blender, Sketchup in order to use high poly model for better rendering. So far I only found 1 BIM software that good for architect and interior designer.

    • @irenedigitaldesign
      @irenedigitaldesign 2 месяца назад

      I agree! Revit is first an foremost intended for construction documentation, which is why renderings made in it tend to look chopy and rough. That being said it can be a good start point. If I'm doing photorealistic renderings, I usually import the Revit model to Sketchup and replace any geometry that looks blocky and then render with Enscape or Vray.

    When we have to assign different tiles to different rooms then we will draw a separate floor for each , but the structural floor should be same for all ?

    • @irenedigitaldesign
      @irenedigitaldesign 3 месяца назад

      That's such a good question! And there's basically 2 solutions depending on how parametric and "correct" you want things to be. If you just want to see different materials in the floor, you could use 'split face' and 'paint face' to assign to each room. If you want your floors to be better from a parametric stand point, then you would first model your "structural floor" which is same for all, and then on top of it you create a new "finish floor". I have a whole video about it but it's coming in the far future haha!

I would like to ask you a question about materials in Sketchup and it is the following: Is it possible to select a material from the materials tool tray and somehow select all the objects in the model where that material is applied? (like for example you can do from VRay). Greetings and thank you very much.

    • @irenedigitaldesign
      @irenedigitaldesign 3 месяца назад

      Thanks @federico_reiners! And to answer you question, yes and no. You can right click over a material in the 'In Model' tray, and click on select... or you can select a face with a specific material applied to it, right click on it, then go to select, and select 'All with same material'. The issue with these options is that it only works with raw geometry so, you would have to be inside a group or component, editing it.

If anyone wants to get even further into creating their own textures to use specifically for renderings, take some time to learn about "materialize" by bounding box software its free and a pretty neat tool.

    The level of information that Sketchup can manage has already been solved in 2024 version, I don't know about 2023, but between 2024 and 2022 is a huge difference, in terms of start time, movement, modeling, size of the model, and even if you don't activate the new graphic engine. An example about the start time, I have so many extensions that 2022 version takes about 1.5-2 minutes to start, but 2024 needs only 30 seconds... And about many other things...... forget about Layout (it sucks in many ways, by not using Layout, I can create PDFs inside Sketchup that you can zoom at an awesome level and quality, if you know Sketchup and a publishing software you never need no Layout), instead you can look at 5D+ extension, which is a game changer, among many things, it can automate, sections, tags, scenes, and the entire relation between all of those, that guy has a video when an entire building it is automated with sections, tags and scenes, and he doesn't do nothing, he just give the command, and after that you just watch it... About collaborative working, Fredo has an extension that makes possible true collaboration, not yet released.

    how to add dimension in cursor

      Hi! Not sure I understand what's exactly your question...but I will guess you would like to see the dimension numbers next to the cursor like with Autocad? Unfortunately this is not a feature that Sketchup has by default. If I guessed wrong, by all means feel free to expand.

      You're right! I'm planning to make a video going into detail with all the different parameters for both stairs and railing.
