    Question for you Matt, you may have already covered it in another video that I missed but does your pickup have mechanical brakes or did you convert to juice? I've got a lead on a '29 pickup project and I'd really like to do it up similar to yours with a hopped up banger. I still dream of an AV8 roadster but man bangers are cool! Thanks! Keep up the awesome videos.

    The problem with the F-100 box in a Model A, is that the drag-link operates at an upward angle, resulting in bumpsteer if running a dropped axle dropped

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop Месяц назад

      @jeromebreeding3302 so does a stock box or any period correct option. It's a design limitation of side steer/push pull steering and more an issue created from the axle being dropped. The f100 box has nothing to do with the drag link angle. It remains in the stock location. I've put about 25,000 miles on this exact setup in my truck. Bumpsteer is minimal, if non existent, and is really more of a "on paper" issue than a real-world problem.

    • @jeromebreeding3302
      @jeromebreeding3302 Месяц назад

      @@Seattle_Speed_Shop I substituted the F-100 steering box with a modified Corvair box, hung under the frame-rail on my 31 A. This made the drag-link horizontal. That and a Volkswagen bus steering damper, eliminated bump-steer, and it was much quicker lock-to-lock than the truck box.

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop Месяц назад

      @fredski53 that's a good question. I didn't purchase this unit or talk to Randy this go round. Depending on the year and model of your A, there are some differences. But being a 28-29 7 tooth, the original box and column is 1 piece. Randy supplies the modified column tube made from an original to work on the f100 box. But it was not installed on the box when we got it. On my truck being a 31. I re-used my original column and throttle and spark levers. Doug(the owner) purchased a complete unit without sending a core.

    Looks like a lot of material cost to having that kind of removal. Have you ever tried a Scotch Brite Clean and Strip disc? I stripped a Model A 5 window body of 5 coats of paint with three discs: Scotch-Brite™ 048011-33194 Non-Woven Clean and Strip XT Disc. That's the 4 1/2", comes in seven inch by changing the last number from 4 to 6. Still tedious, but the fastest, economical way I've found.

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop Месяц назад

      I haven't, I'll have to look into those. I'm about 60-70 bucks in material costs? One pack of sanding disks, a gallon of lacquer thinner, couple Scotch Brite pads and a roll of paper towels. My main concern would have been the 3m disks getting gummed up with the paint.

Tried using them in my 36 coupe and found the firewall would FLEX when applying the brake pedal! Not only that, they interfered w/ taller Edelbrock valve cover on my Olds engine.... The very simple solution today involves using '39 Ford floor pedals. This ONE YEAR ONLY setup makes both clutch and brake linkage a breeze! Only problem, of course, is finding them today, (and most all will need to be re-bushed...)
