    Yup, this is what I’m doing until I’m ready to pull the $2k trigger on a 4-way wall mount clamp system. Thanks for the great idea. Very budget friendly for the time being.

      @denisdelaquis1174 It definitely served it's purpose 😀 It would be nice to have an industrial size vertical system for large builds, but it does the job for the small stuff 👍🏻

    Good video, could you recommend a cheap laser engraver to use exclusively for engraving this type of tags please?

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign 2 месяца назад

      @AtarahWeb Unfortunately I haven't used many other lasers. If you are looking to engrave only and do no imagery, a cheap 50w - 100w Co2 laser would do the trick. I would look for a laser that had a control panel that could at least run "Lightburn" software. Standalone machine programs can be a pain.

      I definitely didn't invent this type of system. I took the idea from some commercial setups I had seen and redesigned a "home use" clamp system. The idea of the T-section/pipe I hadn't seen before. Much smaller setup than the commercial ones I'd seen too. 👍🏻

    Any lessons learned after 9months? How do you ensure the bottom clamp heads are all level to one-another?Glue drip catch feedback would be helpful, too. Thanks!

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign 7 месяцев назад

      I use a spirit level to run along the bottom clamp heads to check they are all level. I run a length of brown wax cooking paper across the bottom ledge to catch the excess glue. The space saving aspect of the rack is definitely more of a positive than the accuracy. Everything I glue up has to go back through a thicknesser anyway, so it did the job for me. I have since moved into a commercial factory so I don't use it as much anymore. I still use the clamps but on our big glue up tables that are nice and flat. But it still comes in handy for the odd home project from time to time.

    I used Walrus Oil and then the Walrus Wax for two cutting boards i made and even days after it seems like oil is still seeping out of the wood. Is this normal? I used Cherry and Hard Maple.

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign 7 месяцев назад

      I know timber that hasn't been properly milled and kiln dried it can push finishes out as it naturally tries to push moisture out. But I can't say I've used cherry or maple as a cutting board before so I cannot give you any more information about what might be occurring there sorry.

    • @AusWorkshop
      @AusWorkshop 3 месяца назад

      That's normal for mineral oil. It's a petroleum based product. I find it is useless as a chopping board oil and I can't understand why so many woodworkers still use it. And now this Walrus oil has taken off which is mainly just mineral oil. Useless stuff. Stays greasy. Especially in hot weather. It's all sales and marketing. A petroleum based product is not as natural as a plant based product in my opinion.

    Common garden variety hot glue guns recommend never pulling the glue stick out the back. A better option would be simply cut your coloured down to a length appropriate for the size of knot and then chase the coloured stick through the gun with a stick of cheaper rod in a clear plain colour, which could also be shortened so as to clear out the front quickly when going back to a coloured stick.

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign 8 месяцев назад

      Turns out there's a better option. The kit actually comes with a cartridge saver...I stupidly thought this was just a little apparatus to hold spare sticks in, but it is actually a rubber/silicone mold that you can inject the unused filler into and it takes the shape of a new filler rod that can be reused at a later stage...I didn't realise this until the seller of the product reached out to me to explain :) No more waste from now on.

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign 8 месяцев назад

      Hi there - thanks for the question...unfortunately I have never lasered onto iron before. It is not a particular material that I have seen much use for in Co2 laser cutting. So any advice I would give would be a complete guess I'm afraid. I have seen other people have some success using fibre laser machines on ferrous metals but it is not something I have any experience with myself, nor have I seen much Co2 laser engraving on ferrous metals - I am sure someone out there has tried though...
