A salesman has been trying to talk me into buying a Clayton E-built home. They're incredibly cheap like 15k less than the same Cavco floor plan,but I've heard nothing but negative things about Clayton. On these e-builts, He's telling me they're so cheap because the government subsidizes them somehow, I can't find anything about that on their website or Google searches. Sounds fishy. Even the foundation and set up contractor told me to really look into it, that they're really cheap for a reason. Thanks for the video, I'm going to steer clear.

Theres a reason these cheapo outfits only give a 1-year warranty. If they're supposedly building a house that a family can live in for decades, as they talk aaaaaaalll about at the dealership and in brochures and such, then why only a 1 year warranty??? Cuz they're built like crap, and nobody knows that better than them.

Thanks for making and posting this video. If more people would take the time to do something like this, there would be a whole lot less screwing going on by these big companies. I could (and should!) do a similar video for Happy Daze RV in Sacramento.

Let's see. Conduit spliced with tape. NM-B ran in wet location. Splicing outside of a junction box. Inadequate burial depth. That conduit is going to be filled with water and eventually mud. You could have just run **Schedule 80** down to 12 inches with a 90 sweep and skip the horizontal run, and route UF-B cable down to 12 inches and run it direct buried between buildings. UF-B is rated for direct burial. And PUT A JUNCTION BOX where the conduit rises into the crawlspace and shed. You put a lot of work into doing things not to code! I won't get into the janky Sched 40 conduit you're using in areas subject to physical damage, running at an angle out of your enclosures.

You are obviously city folks who decided you were going to be farmers. Wildlife happens when you live in the country. Especially on a farm. Are always going to have mice rats raccoons dear rabbits etc. if that horrifies you move back to the city. You stop the mouse and rat problem which will come back by finding out how they are getting into your house. Then use heavy duty wire mesh or real wood to seal the holes. This is not Clayton's fault. They should not be able to get into your crawl space at all. As far as rodents outside if you're trying to get rid of them please move back to the city and don't poison the planet even more. You can cut back on damn by what you plant.

Bought a Clayton Home during the pandemic, so it to was a ordeal in itself. We love our home. Let me tell the best thing we did was full brick underpinning, top to bottom all the way around even the two massive porches we built. I have live in mobile home my entire life and this fixed all the animal issues under the home. Not even a cricket under there. Lol. We also got the 3 piece high pitched roof option. So all AC ducts are in the aticc. Another great choice. Thanks for you videos, love watching. ---- Rick in Arkansas

I am so happy to watch your videos on your purchase of a Clayton Home. I’m [still] planning on purchasing one; however I will make sure to do my due diligence and inform my representative my concerns. I have a member from my Church who purchased one several years ago and has had issues from day one. So, I will be ready for answers before moving forward. My specialist is very kind and helpful as I begin my home buying journey. Thus, if the end result is what I’ve seen on here and they give me a difficult time I will expose them in my Church from the pulpit, on facebook and RUclips or wherever I am able. Delmarva will know! We bought a Clayton modular home way before the pandemic and had so many issues with it. Their crew that sets the home on the basement foundation was unbelievable. At one point I heard one of them say “I don’t know what I’m doing. I don’t know how to do this job” They didn’t properly install the roof correctly and we had to have a third party come and make it right. We also had problems with our vinyl flooring which had to be fixed. The outright lies they tell are ridiculous! We felt like we were in a nightmare. For how much money you pay for a home they should give you what you paid for!

34 years of marriage and I have never just sat there and stared at the side of my husband‘s head for such a very long time watching him just talk. I appreciate this video you made though.

Just fyi...the rat poisoning that you have put out can lead to killing other wildlife that you may want to consider living in harmony with. I'm so sorry that you are going through the things you shared with Clayton homes. Thank you for beautifully caring for others in your path of legitimate frustrations of building your home. Please consider rat teaps, vs poisons being fed to them. A lot of peeps do notvrealize the beautiful large birds, etc that suffer horrific slow internal bleeding deaths, whereas a trap kills instantly. If they injedt poison, they crawl off and die, and are keft for other animals to feed off of. Anyway, just a well intended suggestion. Thanks again!

We are looking at getting a starter home through Clayton until we're able to build cabins and our forever home so hopefully the process will not be horrible. Did the foundation get built through Clayton or did you have a separate contractor for this process?

I have Clayton home purcchased in 2001! The particuls ur feeling under the carpet is where they don't Sweap and clean the floor before laying the carpet down Whatever drops on the floor while building the house is not gotten up. They lay the carpet right over it!!! I found razor blades in the air ducks!! I guess when they dull, and the employee switches to a new one , they just flip it in the vent That's taking no pride in your work what so ever😮

Yes u are right I’m glad someone is saying something and you all are doing an awesome job because it seems like after a year it falls apart well this is my 24th year here in mine it seems like every time you turn around something is falling apart now you better check your toilets and all the faucets that the parts that go to it because they are no good. Everyone had to get redone redo the floor due to the toilet and be aware that your huge tub you have can leak and break very easily, mine is made out of plastic less and it has a crack in it, but I can’t use it. I don’t wanna damage the other floor baseboards and he said very, very very poor quality when you go shopping people don’t let the beauty of it overcome you because you’re overlooking all the small flaws, thank you

Also, any upgrades you do will make it go up of course so therefore you’re not getting your money back if you remodel it you don’t get your money back as far if something happened and you did have a fire or anything it won’t even cover anything maybe up to 50,000 if you’re lucky so therefore you lose all your money. This is not a good investment property for me but when you’re stuck, you have to have somewhere to live. What are you gonna do when you have a fire and you don’t want it to happen again so at this point in the state of Tennessee, they don’t consider nothing but a trailer so I would love to see what you all got as far as interest, but you’re in North Carolina so it may be different good luck and it looks like a beautiful home and we did have a lot of problems with ours. We’ve had to replace the hot water heater so if it’s put in place like your master bedroom closet right right in that hole is your central heating and air vent where you better be careful because it will buckle the floors and everything, it leaks and you don’t even know it. It’s too late.

If you do consider getting a home like this, you might want to think about the interest rate because you are charged a higher interest rate in the state of Tennessee and the interest rate it was 0.9 that’s high to me and they cannot be taken to a regular Bank they if you do it’s even higher they consider this a manufactured home and it is but they do not want you or your business at the bank even if you have a great credit which I did only reason that was purchased was because my house burnt they’re cheaply made and when you’re kind of stuck when you needing something like a home waiting to get a builder to build one is even like they said in the video it’s very expensive and during this time you think when you pay insurance on your home it depreciate every time you turn around every month it depreciates it’s not even worth it. I’ll say you pay $100,000 for a home from Clayton when you get it paid off it might be worth 5000 am I insurance company told me it’s a bad investment you’ll never get your money back because you’re paying a lot of insurance companies will only cover so much well it won’t even cover what we paid for not alone cover for furniture and stuff like that you can only get up to a maximum of 50,000 at least in case there was and when they’re talking about the holes, yes that is true. Do not buy a modular home from them or any other company because if you like mouse in your home, we’ll go for it because I don’t and they do in every year.

I've been thinking about buying a small lot and getting a manufactured home. I'm glad you made this video. I live in Ellijay and likely would have gone to Clayton homes in Dalton. No way I'll do that after this video and reading the comments.

You could have had water delivered. 250 gal. and a rental tank.
