I have noticed a couple days ago that I can just gaslight ChatGPT 4o into believing obviously wrong things and it will even say sorry and thank me for "correcting" it and that it appreciates my honesty even when I admit to gaslighting it back and forth. Especially when comparing unlike things. I just about cancelled my subscription when I realized it was just being an agreement machine

I've been tutoring for 20 years, everything you say is true, etc etc but there are also those special type of students who do nothing but practice tests on MyMethLab. It's amazing how well they do on their tests without learning a single thing of math, but sooner or later this strategy stops working for them

Is this the approach you would take when doing homework opposed to using pen and paper?
I tutor programming and supervise exams, and it's very disappointing seeing the students that I know used ChatGPT to do their homework stare blankly at basic questions, because they never took time to learn the basics. They had become too comfortable in thinking that repeatedly deciphering whatever ChatGPT had written for them would translate to them also being able to produce code and solve problems.

As a student from the western world that's part of continental Europe. I thought you'd assert that students have special plans from large corporate entities or literally free services offered like github along all their partnerships they're aligned with, just as much as my university allows me to read scientific articles for "free" or to physically request through libraries to quite search out for books that may help myself and the group of people who'll come to check it out afterwards. Thus a reason why pirating is counter intuitive if you already have so many tools at your own service. Without mentioning it isn't risk free for your pc. That inherently, does count as the free things that are handed to spoiled kids such as we "generally" are ahem. No just kidding.
Maybe I got lucky. My real analysis professor was quite open minded about using AI. He often told us that he's jealous of us being so young in the age of AI and he would also call us out or push us to go use the amazing AI tools at our disposal these days to help us understand the subject matter better. Really smart guy, also quite accomplished financially. He also didn't really care if we cheated or not because we're not babies and we're hurting ourselves if we used it to cheat, ig he felt it didn't really matter in the long run and that he should leave us to reap the fruits of our actions. Positive or negative.

My math professor allowed us to just look up any math textbook online even if it was pirated, he didn't mind, because he said you could find it online for free
Why do you think and speak like it's 1980? "Prepare to be an employee." "Be a 9-5 slave." If this is what college/university is about, then it is a waste of time and money. In 2025 the successful people are the creators and entrepreneurs of the future and not 9 to 5 robotic slaves.
So you want to own slaves (being an entrepernour). Don't cheat your self those who can be creators are the same people that are study to understand the world then can creat something creative. Entrepernourship is about 70% of advance skills ( collage level + several years of experainse) 20% mangment skills ( you know where to get that 😏) Then the last 10% is what all money guru in the Internet are talking about

Is using AI to take notes cheating?
Depends really if its just for yourself then no but never fully rely on gen ai i can mess up. You could argue the ethical issue with the training data (or how creators of said works did not agree to be in the training data, were not asked, and do not receive compensation) but that mainly applies to commercial works or committing plagiarism ie writing your essay purely on chatgtp or something. For notes for yourself you should be fine. But again if can mess up so always check it just in case. Unless you are talking about the text to speech stuff that some doctors have been using for years. Again for notes you should be fine.

I learned about this when I was studying proportional and unproportional time division at the Conservatory, around the age of 11 or something. My music theory teacher wasn’t necessarily bad; I just couldn’t understand her way of teaching, so I started using the textbooks instead. Sometimes, the best teacher you can have is your own brain.

in college, the courses start without assuming any prior knowledge so don't worry, CS classes will start from scratch with "hello world". the best advice is to read the textbook, really try to UNDERSTAND the foundational material as professor said in the video, and most importantly practice. as you improve in cs, do projects to build up your resume

I mean American textbooks look like toddler's picture book compared to what we have in my country 😅 (130 pages for Calc 1 including append., just raw formulas and mathematical definitions, if u are lucky then on a seperate exercise book maaaybe 5-6 example exercises / type maybe 1 solved but not explained....). Thus when I first saw American Calculus textbooks I was blown awaym like wow if I only had that 😂 when I took Calc 1, so I sweared to so Calc 1 & 2 using Thomas &/ Stewart and take Calc 2 ... Learning to read math is such a superskilll... (now I do better even with our minimal textbooks, purely because I've learned to interpret things differently. If you dig deep even in 1 textbook for 1 class it will help to open up so much more...

I'll be honest, the online communtiy practically carries undergraduate topics. Fundamentals are best learnt online, i have learnt olympiad stuff online way better than from books. After learning online, only then do textbook topics feel intuitive, on their own they feel extremely elitist i'll be honest.
