Scott Paul Moderate Loop Hike at Mount Baker - Concrete, Washington, USA
This was a lovely alternative to the often overcrowded Park Butte and Railroad Grade Trails at Mount Baker. We only saw a couple other groups and had warm but otherwise perfect conditions. The trail offers rock formations, a unique suspension bridge, delicious berries, wildflowers, glacier views, and beautiful views of the Cascades, including Mount Shuksan, the Three Sisters, Hannegan, and many more. This trail requires a National Forest day pass, Northwest Forest Pass, or America the Beautiful pass. It is dog friendly but doesn't have a ton of shade or water.

This is a trail on the north side of Mount Baker. It is dog friendly, but please be aware of you and your dog's ability because there are some serious water crossings that require fording fast water. Awesome, scary, fun, grueling, stunning, challenging! Great scramble but multiple paths can get confusing and not all were equal. Nothing technical but lots of exposure with dire consequences. Pugh is in the Northern Cascades in the Glacier Peak Wilderness. The road is not horrible but much worse than I expected and busy. The road is very narrow so potholes are unavoidable. Nothing scraped with 6.8" clearance but traction control kicked in twice on the way up. I would not do this with a sedan but someone did. A stunning peak just off I-90 on the east side of the Cascade Mountains with views throughout the hike. It overlooks Kacheesas Lake on one side with Mount Rainier in the distance and the even more beautiful Cle Elum Lake on the other side framed by the Enchantment Peaks. Stunning day and the wind made it even better with dancing grass. Great views of the Columbia River, Mount Hood and Mount Adams. Bring a map because there are a few turns and splits. Trail is in great shape with just one slick spot on the way down from Chatfield Hill, going clockwise. Stats: 2.9 miles, 560 ft elevation gain/loss.
