That Other Place - Joe DiRienzo

Joe has been a big help and encouragement since I began composing several years ago. He typically writes for orchestra but has been composing more recently for the piano; it was great to be able to record one of his pieces! Before - a prepositional prelude

A jazzy little piece, with much of the melody happening before the beat. After "Between", I decided to continue using prepositions as musical instructions of sorts... we'll see how many of them I can do. Dreaming in the Hollow - Jason Olshan
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
A lovely piano work by @JasonOlshan . The mixed meter helps create a "dreaming" mood for this piece. The music wanders through variations of the same motif, circling again and again until the very end, and we "wake up" in a new key.
Thrall - Greg Harradine

A lovely, mesmerizing piece for the left hand by youtube.com/@christinedonkin7023?si=yxgn-J1Y7emaroaC A wonderful intermediate level addition to one-handed repertoire; the odd meter creates a lilting, wave-like feeling. Great!
Thank you!
Spicy! Another interesting and concise piece :)
Haha, thanks!
Bravo. Beautifully written- enchanted.
beautiful sound and rhythmic interplay of these two key signatures in your composition- it immediately reminded me of Darius Milhaud's wonderful set of 10 solo piano pieces, "Saudades do Brasil," which explored bitonality and Brazilian rhythms
Ah, I have actually played that first one! Great stuff. Thanks for listening!
Fantastic! Love it
Thank you!
Beautiful piece. Speaking of preposition I sent you a friend preposition on Instagram and you probably ignored it 😅
Thanks for listening! I haven’t really used instagram since 2020 😅 maybe I should make one specifically for piano sometime
Creative as always, wonderful!
Thank you!
So good!
Thanks so much!
Charming piece. Quite a sensitive "non pesante" reading. Excellent choice!
Agreed, it’s a great piece. Thanks Joe!

Really quite beautiful, and not dissimilar to how Bach used only figurations and chords as material. A wonderful performance.
Thank you so much! I agree, there is a bit of Bach somewhere in here

Well done! Both of you.
Fantastic piece and a great balance for Up. If you don’t know his music already, I think you’d really like Martin Butler. He has a brilliant trio of pieces called Preludes Inegales that I think you’d enjoy.
@@christophermortlockcomposer wow, these ARE brilliant; the harmonies in Chameleon have me goosebumps! Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll be looking up more of his work. Have you heard Yoshimatsu’s Fuzzy Bird Sonata for saxophone and piano? Part of Circuits reminded me of it, with the sections abruptly starting and stopping. Oh, and thank you!
@@bethanywakim6175 Glad you liked the Butler! If you haven't already, you should also check out his piece American Rounds (it's one of my favourites ever). I'll check of the Yoshimatsu! Thanks for the recommendation.

Is the “hands floating over the piano” thing really necessary? Looks so dramatic and ridiculous.
Maybe it's part of the performance, I don't know but there is nothing wrong with that. The movement is connected to the music that she plays. Why are you judging so harshly by saying that is ridiculous?
close your eyes I guess 🤷♀️
