Stripping the kitfox for new wings YeeHaa
Hello there, I have the same issue. But when i put the test gauge or manometer on each hose, its leaking where the hose sat. I get pressure on the manometer but its leaking out where the hose sat. Any ideas?
Do you think I can try to replace some of the internal parts like the cylinder kit or the were plates without removing the entire hydro gear? I have the simplicity 50” and haven’t torn it apart yet, but both pumps are acting sluggish.
my previous video shows how to do it. its pretty easy
I have a question what is your thoughts on the jabiru 2200 gen 1 with all mods done are they a good engine?
@@Todpevy mine has sure been good to me
Hi mate I’m interested in doing similar project wonder if I could ask a couple questions
Yeah ask away you can also find me on the facebook
How many inches wings chord?
Taper Locks. They've been around forever. I dealt with them a lot back in the 70's
My Citation is weak on the left also, no doubt the same problem, where is the followup video on this ?
ruclips.net/video/6E0Q2Obaih8/видео.html&t Subscribe to the channel then fix your mower please . by the way I just mowed with mine yesterday still works great.
The new dog chow is better than the old dog chow! 😱😁😝🤪🤣👍👍🇺🇸
Lots of water. We have been swamped up here in northern Mn as well. A week ago we got 5" and some other local towns got 7 or 8". That is a lot of water for us up here. Funny thing is I went flying last evening, and was surprised by how little flooding I found. Hope it works out for your neighbors and the water goes down soon.
Thanks Jim Fly Safe
No way it’s the pump. If you have 2500 psi in reverse then the pump is working fine . It would be in the drive motor . Your pump doesn’t change direction. There is a valve system controlling the flow of the oil driving the motor . Just my 2 cents
I fixed it years ago watch all the videos on it
Could i get your contact info? I have some wing questions
Would you sell a set of those? I have a model 1 and would love to redo my wings. I would buy your old wings if you would be interested in selling them.
kitfox wont let me sell new parts sorry man
Nice work pilot! Digging the music!
Next time your lifters actually need adjustment, would you kindly film the process? If you are adjustment/checking solid lifters... then you're checking head bolt torq too. 😁
Ive got a jabiru in my avid mk4 haven’t flown yet but looking forward to it.
I agree, the Jab is a good match for my Avid C as well!👍
Dude, 17k views!!? Nice work!
Wow, that sound is 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
After 2 years how trouble free has your 85 horsepower Jabiru been? I can’t afford a Continental or Lycoming in the airplane I’m designing.
I had to replace the alternator but other than that I Haven't had any issues.
What that was, is a very bad landing, looks like he did a three point landing and then bounced it into a wheel landing.
ya really think so
It’s the caster that’s in error.
Dad ground looped his biplane because one of the tailwheel springs broke. It destroyed the air frame and a wing tip . So take this stuff seriously.
Trent Palmer claims to have no springs/free spinning tail wheel. What is that all about?
Springs and chains are not needed. you just steer with your brakes and not your rudder. Its all what you want. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the great video. You do well at making these videos. 👍🇨🇦
thank you
Do you wheel land all the time? If so why?
On pavement I usually do. And that’s so I can see where I’m going. On grass I do both.
get marine quality stainless steel springs and take out the play no woggling .......p.s. soloed my mothers umbrella 1954..my shoe came off. they were loose like your springs...thanks for your work on you tube..
Apparently if the pivot isn't vertical it can cause this. Especially if the pivot leans forward. Perhaps check the angle with weight on the wheel.
Take care, a guy fell out of his Bearhawk a couple oof years ago, when he released his harness and leaned out to check on a probable rudder problem! s30121.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Report_ERA23FA045_106223_4_14_2024-12_58_27-AM.pdf
You said you were super fast on short final. Did you touch down fast?
no normal speeds when touchdown. its all fixed and works great again
alittle more tension on the springs will fix it
Hello Build it Right, good video, thanks for sharing. I can tell you my STi wings came with 4 weights but I’m sure you’ve crossed that bridge already. Thank you for the tip on smoothing out the hysol, that will help me out immensely as I move into my wings. Question about the music you have in the background, does RUclips give you any hassle about that? Thanks I’m going to watch some more.
I did and I think I made a video when I built my 4 weights. And thanks for watching
@@builditright4666 You said “I did” which I think is a reference to having already crossed the bridge. I’ll have to watch the video of you building the weights, I’m going to attempt to add a link to your video in my next video where I mentioned that I was looking for a good way to smooth out the Hysol. Does YT bother you with copyright issues when you play regular music in the background? Thanks, Matt
@@KingFox76 you. tube always gets mad with with other music
Had the same thing with Pawnees in the early 70,s after many landings on bush strips. Periodically the entire tail wheel assembly would disintegrate scattering washers and other bits along the strip. We would gather them all together then clean them in avgas ,oil them and reattach to the tail wheel stem ,then carry on the with the job until the next time. (ps. I witnessed a catalina in 2008 land on a runway and suffer a nose wheel shimmy. The shimmy effect had an alarming reaction on the tailplane which twisted and flexed in sympathy with the nose wheel.)
Spent time diagnosing a Citabria wheel shimmy. Preload on the bearings was the issue
I have this same mower that seems to be having the same issue with the left side as yours did. I have not taken it apart yet, but I need to fix this so I can start cutting grass. Can I ask what site you found the replacement pump parts? Thank you for your time and making this video, I priced a new pump and would much rather try to rebuild first for what the replacement would cost. Had you not made this video I would have never thought to try a rebuild myself.
jacks small engines I believe
Tail wheel shimmy.
So what Sonex are you building?
that is the A model and its for sale if you know of anybody
I’ve always like a little tension on my springs.
I believe a wide (tundra) tailwheel is prone to shimmy on pavement
Nice plane.... I have about 800 hours in a KF2 and a couple hundred in other versions of KF. My guess is too loose springs and way to fast to touch pavement which I avoid as much as I can.... I have flown mine to OSH a few times ...listen to the old TW guys... good luck
Kitfox is geometricly totally shitt desing. Wing root pins are vertical not horizontal to allove hinge phenomeon when spars are flexing. Only a smart aircraft designers realise that.
And yet there has never been a failure! hope you feel better🙂
YUP... Consider that time has shown the Kitfox to be hold'n her own...:)
One suggestion if you haven’t done it already, use a slightly heavier spring on one side than the other. Each one will have a different resonance frequency and the tail wheel will be less likely to shimmy.
I read somewhere not too long ago that if the forward edge of the wheel falls too far behind the vertical axis of the pivot point, that can lead to wheel shimmy.
IT is a Kit Airplane. Use a little Testors Glue. LOL.YIKES !!!!!
Seems like you need to move the chains up a link to take some of the slack out so the compression springs can do their job. 🤷♂️
You said it yourself on short approach “wow we are hauling ass” meaning you were not a stabilized approach. You then let your tail down early in the rollout. Keeping the tail up would have reduced the chance of a shimmy at higher speeds. Also your tailwheel springs are entirely too loose. The springs should have just a tad of compression when you are sitting in it.
You may also discover that with the tyre contact area centre wearing down so that the profile is flat to the edges, incrementally a small added amount of air pressure in the tyre may be required to raise the centre slightly to prevent the tyre edges becoming the primary load bearing areas of the profile and getting into a "your turn - my turn - your turn" shimmy reaction. After that bit of violence, it may be prudent to check the fuselage attachment of the leaf spring for ovaling of fastener holes.
No tension on the tailwheel steering control springs.
Agree
Yep, springs too loose, tightening the nut will only work for a short time. This sort of things also doesn't happen very often on grass, so you'll think you've fixed it.
My thoughts also. Those chains need to be tensioned to stopped the shuttering.
If the nut is a bit loose, it throws off the caster which will cause the shimmy. Sometimes extra weight or too much speed can also cause it. Nice looking Kitfox!
I'd be wondering why that bolt was loose while having the cotter pin still in place. Like you say the caster angle may have become negative causing the shimmy. It takes like 3 minutes to measure for positive caster with a bench square. That rudder also took a good beating.
I'm happy to see that it was a simple fix for you. 😊👍
Good to see ya again.👍 it's been awhile! I had the same thing happen last year.
Thanks Man
