I was there last year, just me and my wife. As a lifelong Elvis fan (since Hound Dog/Don’t Be Cruel), it was absolutely surreal. One neighbor did walk by with his dog. I guess I expected some kind of Southern friendliness (being from the Northeast)…not a chance, I guess the snootiness never left.

He chose her . This was a great story. Then the manager and all got control of Elvis.

By the time the cameras filmed Pearson for this episode, in April of 1957, this is what Elvis Presley had done with his life, in terms of work directly related to his PROFESSIONAL accomplishments. He had performed in 624 shows, in 150 cities in 37 states of the then 49 states of the Union, He had completed 23 DIFFERENT recording session, yielding 84 of his eventual 714 recordings. He had appeared 13 times on national television for two out of the three networks, garnering some 270 million cumulatve viewers, appearing live from Studio 50 &the Hudson Theater, in NY, as well as Television City and the deck of the USS Hancock, in the West Coast. Finally, he had completed two major motion pictures for two of Hollywood's most important studios, and taken a single 20 day vacation (June 1956), during the preceeding 24 months, namely in the period from July of 1954 to May of 1957. No one in the world worked harder than Elvis Presley, not in those 24 months. Pearson didnt know what he was talking about, in terms of the work Presley did to get where he got. And he mostly travelled by car, by bus, and by train.

She is lovely! I have a 1956 magazine with an article featuring their romance. The ladies room story depicted in the article is a little difference from hers. Many journalists twist stories just to fit their narrative. It's a cool article, but this interview is way better! :)

This is definitely a rare find. So much of similar content all through Rock’s history has either been erased, destroyed or is with zealous private collectors. I hope more content like this can be unearthed, the Beatles in 1964 being critiqued by the “older generation” as well.

It had to be very uncomfortable for Elvis doing some of the things that the army requires them to do with the cameras rolling. Elvis wasn't only the best entertainer of all time but he was a model soldier. According to his superiors the only time that they had a problem with Elvis was when his Momma got real sick and he threatened to go awol if they didn't give him a pass so he could go and see her. I am glad that he made it to Memphis and that he got to see Gladys before she passed away.

I watched the video that Globetrotting with Trey on RUclips did about Elvis and June. It's really good, and the home movies that June's Dad did of Elvis fishing is really good. Elvis had her Dad to take them out the following weekend so Elvis could take his Moma and Daddy with them. It shows Gladys bringing Elvis peanut and banana sandwiches to eat while Elvis is fishing. Their love story is so beautiful and bittersweet. Elvis is the best, hands down!

Her book is my favorite elvis book and definitely the best gf book. On it's own it's a beautiful and bittersweet love story. You don't have to be an elvis fan to enjoy it. All the songs peppered in the book i made into a soundtrack and just listen to. So many of these songs have a different meaning to me now thanks to this book. The book is also so well written, it makes you feel like you've travelled back on time back to the 50s. I feel so melancholic and nostalgic for the 50s and I was born after Elvis passed. I'm rereading her book again and I just read it 3 months ago! I think I'll keep rereading this every year. Wish she did an audiobook as well of it!
