my stupid iphone takes crappy pics. I feel like these majestic animals deserve something a little more to capture their beauty. what part of the world do you live in with so many eagles? West coast british columbia here

@daveerik75 very fortunate. In this state there are only 40 breeding pair. I'm not sure how they got to that number, but we have 2 breeding pair in this area. And when the lake isn't froze over I see eagles almost every day. But not in the same numbers you do. But when I see them it's like I know them personally. I always buy the Samsung phone just because of its camera...I can get really good pictures if I can get close. Take care brother, peace

Also when you use the natural rosin on bone or flint knives bone powder is good as a cover like Tacoma to keep from behind as tacky and it also utilizes you use all that Nader presents as a gift

@@Rev.nighthawk..pjred1984 thanks for those teachings! i'm actually going to craft a bone knife this year. i know people would use wood shavings or sawdust to make a thicker bind when using resin or epoxy but i never thought about bone dust. genius!

@@danh1206 yes sir! All the eagles migrate and the land warden says approx over 30,000 will travel to our area. The colder it gets inland the more eagles travel to us where it’s warm and food is plentiful and they find partners to breed. I’m slowly learning all this

@daveerik75 there's a man who lives here in my town he's like a professional birder. I've learned a lot from him. But when I'm hiking i get to see them up close. The other day i spoke out loud to a juvenile and said I mean no harm and asked if I could take it's picture. I walked right underneath it and got a few pics then went and sat on a hill just behind it. That eagle stayed put and would turn and look to see if I was still there... very cool time for me.

@ ahh yes! So cool. So what I’ve been taught and noticed is that juveniles are very curious compared to adults. And if it’s a residential bird and nests there all year round. They get used to you and your smell and the way you look! That’s so cool! 😎

@daveerik75 we've had a breeding pair here for over 8yrs.I also think there's another breeding pair very close to here also, I've been seeing more juvies all summer which was very unusual. They are more sensitive at the lake than when I'm kayaking the river. I believe they have photographic memory.

It’s pretty overwhelming to be near so much wildlife and sacred animals. It’s an abundance of blessings and it’s hard to comprehend. Very grateful to the land warden, ministry, local nations and my team that allow me to tag along and witness all this

Will say though to fix one is extremely time consuming and I would never dare gift one those c rate fepaired feathers to a elder but as art only I've done hundreds and takes time

@@johnr5758 I’m just a gatherer and crafter. I give everything away but i would only be able to help if you lived near me

it removes moisture so it prevents any meat material from rotting. it basically mummifies material. It's also a cleaner. It's a natural mineral substance and when curing animal parts, there is no odour. some people mix salt and borax. but salt doesn't remove odour.

lol yes from the outsider looking in it might look like eagle soup haha. but there is something really nice about the smell of wildlife working with sacred animal parts its very earthy. my fav is drying praire sage. but the smell of oils on feathers and bones is pretty cool too. your daughter sounds like a handful haha

@@daveerik75 yes the smells can be interesting indeed. I too love drying sage. One thing I’ve wanted to do was collect sweet grass. Soon I’ll be working on a buffalo hide I was gifted. Going to do a brain tan on it. I had to salt it and put it up for a bit while moving and trying to set up a new shop so I’m hoping that it will still accept the brain. If not I’ll have to go for a bark tan. We’ll see….

She was a handful. She’s 15 now and is a pretty darn good kid though.

@@danh1206 yeah some moments just aren't meant to be captured on camera! i wish i had a camera that could do wildlife justice. i just use my iphone and its sucky

@daveerik75 I hear ya. I have Samsung for that very reason. It does fairly good job if you get close. My kids and wife want to get me a camera, but I told them then I'll start looking for pictures. I get some good ones from time to time when things just happen, meant to be lol

@@danh1206 if you snoop around the base of trees and bushes you might find some feathers or animal carcass to cure and make crafts from! i'm hoping to look for shed antlers this year. even a nice elk rack would be sweet

haha nice brother! I don't like using plastics of any kind. Did you look at some graphite or carbon fiber tubes like 6mm or 7mm? just a need a hacksaw. it's thinner and stronger and not plastic. I've made them out of cedar branches, just core it out, bamboo, pvc

its just a simple over-under stitch. i was considering a different stich but simple is always good. especially for indigenous crafts. its basically a single strand baseball stich

@daveerik75 yes, I agree keep it simple. I have a cedar branch waiting to become something. I made a pipe stem out of the last piece I had. Be nice to watch you put a design on the rattle head sometime. Take care, peace.

@ cool! I prefer birch but where I live cedar is a way of life. Cedar people. Cedar is soft and once you shape and rough sand it you should stain it and then fine sand it. Cedar fiber is more loose and soft I find. I will be doing some smaller rawhide stuff where I plan to use leather dye for a design. I will video it for you and post it

@daveerik75 i made a necklace out of cedar for my grandson. I fine sanded to 2500 grit. Then sealed with bees wax. Nothing fancy just let the grain speak. It turned out nice he enjoyed. Can't wait to see the video, enjoy your day

two options you can buy a small square of ply (birch or walnut are the nicest) and have it precut at home depot they don't charge you extra.The runners I use are pine and i just use a handsaw to cut those. You can also use a skil saw 20v to cut the tops. everything else is done by hand. I also have a 18v power drill to install hardware

I am in Oregon and found a beautiful owl someone hit and unfortunately he did not survive 😢. What do I need to do to legally obtain this beautiful animal? I would like to preserve parts of it and respectfully bury the rest of it. I do not have a Native registration however I am part Native American. I want to honor and respect the traditions. What should I do with this beautiful creature?

@ well for now I would freeze it because it will decompose if you don’t. Sadly I doubt you would be able to keep it. But I would call fish and wildlife and tell them you are native and want to preserve a dead bird. You will have to follow the laws unfortunately whatever they decide. That’s just my humble opinion I am not An authority on anything.

@@sian3608 you can. Salt won’t remove the decaying smell if you have a lot of meat on the wings. That’s why borax is such a good way it removes odour and sucks up all moisture. I know someone who uses a mix of salt and borax. You could soak them first before curing but don’t steam them until you are 100% cured

@@robertredden4429 the USA levied huge fines and jail time for use of protected migratory birds without proper authority. It’s to prevent poaching which is a serious issue. I think it’s a little over the top as I dont feel like finding feathers on the ground should land you in jail. They naturally molt off the bird. But conservation officers wouldn’t be able to tell if you picked them out of the forest or if you shot and killed a protected bird. So they have these really strict laws in place.

@@robertredden4429 if you are from the USA then you are correct you can’t possess or collect eagle feathers. You have to apply to the repository. In Canada you have to have indigenous ID (Métis or First Nation) or apply through wildlife ministry so you are right for certain areas. I have ID and wildlife permits and verbal consent from local nations and an indigenous land warden who guides and directs us in proper legal and protocol

@@robertredden4429 it is if you have govt issue ID and approval from local nations, ministry, govt and also you have treaty status. You need to be informed about legislation before you make blanket statements that aren’t true

@@zhaneranger I believe any type of feather can be used. I’ve used turkey, Hawk, eagle, raven, seagul, Canadian goose….i use all kinds for dreamcatchers talking sticks smudge fans or feathers. I made a really cool fan using part of a goose wing, little raven feathers and an orange wing from a flicker I put it all together and it came out super cool! Wish I had kept it

@@Nothanks450 I’m from Canada so riles may be different. Usa has very strict rules and I believe all natives have to apply through the repository. In Canada you would apply through fish and wildlife
