Barry turns 80 and still riding! Versys 1000 S - Honda NC750X

My friend Barry turned 80 in February and still rides his Honda NC750X most weeks weather permitting. He's recently been dreaming of getting a Honda Africa Twin, I hope he does! We did this ride back in January this year and it was almost perfect conditions for what has been a wet Summer.

More MotoJitsu practice. To be safer on the road, it's important we all practice emergency braking. Aim to stop in 15 feet at 25 mph (41 kph) We need all the skills we can get and being able to stop your bike quickly can save your life or someone elses! Tip: Never grab the front back, squeeze it progressively to 100 percent and apply light rear brake tapering off to zero.

Practicing MotoJitsu's motorcycle drills. The "Crazy 13" is a difficult challenge and you really have to force those handlebars quickly to steer around the markers. You need to keep the speed up and counter-balance in order to make it all happen in a decent time. It's good fun and you become a better rider.

    I'm in the UK and last June I got my license bought the exact same bike as my first bike at 50 years old. I absolutely love it. I'm now riding it 80 miles a day for my daily commute to and from work in in all weather and it's saving me at least an hour a day from being stuck in rush hour traffic. I've been thinking about getting the booster plug for a while and your video is really helpful. Thanks

      @@motoant Well my experience is just about the same as yours. I installed it yesterday and tested it today and what I find is noticeably less snatch but some of it is still there and it still feels like you throw out an anchor when turning off the throttle however not as bad. What has always bothered me about this bike is when you let off of the throttle and begin to roll it back on nothing happens for a 1/8 turn of the throttle and I still have some of that. Keep chipping away mate. I got to brown and some black belt drills on the Versys 650 then had to start all over when I bought the 1000. The lighter 650 was definitely much easier. To do Blue Belt on your 1000 is still very good riding. The most important thing IMO is counterbalancing, the more you can lean your body to the opposite side the easier everything becomes. Safe riding! :)

    Gday mate. I just bought a new Versys 1000 2 weeks ago. The KQS light is factory set at 4750rpm for the 1st 1000km. What rpm do you recommend changing it to after the 1st service? Or can it be set to anything, and be used anytime above about 3000rpm to be smooth?

    • @motoant
      @motoant 5 месяцев назад

      G'day mate. Great purchase, I think you'll be super happy with your new bike! I found the smoothest to be above 6000 rpm going up in gears 3-4-5-6 and 4000-4500 going down. If I change up lower than 5500rpm on my bike, I notice more of a clunk which apparently isn't that good on your gearbox so I have set my light to flash at 6000rpm. Some riders report having to have their gearboxes repaired after about 30,000 kms if they use the KQS frequently at lower rpm's or in lower gears. I don't use the KQS around town, only for sporty "spirited" riding on the highway. I'm still learning though. Safe riding!

    I have the 2021 so the same bike, I agree it is very responsive but a lot of people will like that about it, the engine breaking is excellent which should be a positive as this bike stops better than most I have ridden, I agree it can be touchy at corners and round-abouts because of how touchy / responsive it is, but that is easily dealt with some clutch control, I have had to become a lot better at clutch control because of this bike. All that said, id like to rike my bike with the plug installed to see the difference, but I hate playing with fiddly stuff like your install video showed it to be, id likely snap the plug or something.

    • @motoant
      @motoant 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, you have to use the clutch to smooth out the throttle response but shouldn't have to. I have a Yamaha XT660R with quicker acceleration in first gear but it is way smoother and you don't need to feather the clutch. I traded in the 650 for a Versys 1000 S and it is less jerky than the 650. The Boosterplug isn't difficult to fit and it does smooth the throttle response a little bit. I was even getting the occasional stall and backfiring as well and it helped with that as well.

    I've just bought one of these! That noise is addictive to me. Even a Honda V4 doesn't quite do it. And triples or twins? Too lumpy for my tastes. I just love a straight-inline 4.. Peoples opinions may vary of course, and that's their right. Doesn't mean they are right or I am right. Imagine a circle with this Kwak induction noise at the centre, now draw a circle around that noise. Everyone will sit a different point on that circle and have a different viewpoint. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I think Euro 5 fuel re-mapping started MY19 (2020). Because of the lean idle fuel/air ratio you also get aggressive engine braking and some backfiring! In Australia we can only buy the reduced power version. We can get a dyno tune done to fix it.

    Great video! If you set the module to flash during deceleration does the brake light also turn solid when you apply the front and rear brakes?

    • @motoant
      @motoant Год назад

      Cheers, glad it has given you some info. Yes, as soon as you apply either brake, the brake light comes on as usual because the brake is still receiving that signal. I found the module is quite sensitive, as it flashes almost the whole duration of deceleration... Great accessory! 🏍️👍🏼

    Looks as though you had a good day-out with a few like-minded blokes. The road wound through lovely country, to then end-up in beautiful Childers. Nice to see this little place again.

      Thanks for your comment. Drivers of cars seem to be getting worse, so anything that makes us more visible is a good thing. Definitely worth installing the ST2 brake module. They're very cheap for what you get. Cheers!

    Another good vid mate, looks and sounds like the booster plug installation has slightly helped to smooth out the throttle action. And even though it wasn't as much of a noticeable improvement that was being claimed, I like your positive attitude that any improvement is always a good improvement 👍🏻

      @@barrymerone3765 I've done the install part of the video. I'll see what I can put up tonight. Definitely less engine breaking but the snatchy throttle hasn't been a big improvement. Only a little difference which is a bit disappointing. In Australia we can only buy a restricted version 650 so I believe it has a different mapping to a full power. You might notice a big difference if it is full power. I need to get a remap done on mine.
