Clips of classic movies featuring Ida Lupino, Ginger Rogers, and more
Ann Sheridan 1934
Ann Sheridan appeared in 20 films released in 1934, her first year in Hollywood. Virtually all of her performances were uncredited, and even those credited were likely very brief appearances. She was still using her real name of Clara Lou Sheridan.
Here excerpted are her entire screen time in three of those movies-the ones Ida Lupino was starred in that year. They add up to about 25 seconds.
* Search for Beauty (1934). Filmed in late 1933, this was Ann Sheridan's first movie appearance, walking by the camera briefly as one of the couple dozen 'Search for Beauty' contest winners. She is announced only as 'Texas'.
* Come On Marines (1934). Filmed early in the year, this may have been her first...

Oh my goodness, how did this get past the censors? Ginger is beautiful in that gown, look at her tiny waist! I'm not sure I understand the reference to falling asleep and Perry Como.
Going to watch this tonight
How many times was Ida alone with a psycho in films and on tv?
She was only 22 when she made this movie and was already a movie old timer!
Loved her in "On Dangerous Ground". She played someone as far removed from this part as you can imagine. Robert Ryan, her co-star was marvelous. He was in a great film noir, 'Crossfire" with Robert Mitchum, Robert Young and Gloria Graham.
That's hilarious 😂
She must’ve gotten her hair ironed at some point...
Basil Rathbone was a wonderful actor and the most fondest of all the Sherlock Holmes for me.🔎
love this movie Ida Lupino my favorite movie and a big Gean Gabin fan
Born on this day was the great Ida Lupino. When I wrote this review for The Hard Way, I was struck by how the story reminded me of "Mildred Pierce." Ida gives a gutsy performance as a woman who'll do anything to get herself & kid sister out of a factory town. In her youth, Lupino was quite lovely! My take: ricksrealreel.blogspot.com/2017/09/the-hard-way-is-marvelous-melodrama.html
Ida Lupino, a wonderful actress, and very underrated. She had beauty, and a lovely voice, and no mannerisms!
What? No mannerisms! 🙄
@@terry4137 Unlike Bette Davis for instance.
George is my man…always calm. This is my favorite movie of his.
❤. 🧺 🍇 🍊 🍒 🍐. ❤
One of my all time favourite 40s Soap Operas. Lupino was very deserving of that NYFCC award for this intense riveting performance as the narcissistic scheming Helen. So glad Bette Davis or Miriam Hopkins, who essayed the part on radio, didnt play on screen. They would have been "too old" and matronly whereas Ida is just right as an Older Sister and frustrated wife who lives in the reflected glory of her talented sibling. I think my favourite scene is where Helen sabotages the Has-been Lily Emery (played by the marvelously blowsy Gladys George) by getting her good n tight at rehearsal. Joan Leslie and Jack Carson lend superb Support to this tale of Ambition and Resentment.
She's amazing and her and Fred Astaire made a perfect team
Ida was one of the great talented ladies of her day! She worked hard to be where she was. She was respected for her work as an actress and director she paved the way for all women to become the star that she was!!!
I just watched this movie. It's amazing. Incredible writing and acting. Ida Lupino=brilliant.
Nice one
By 1958 her film career was virtually over..... She made a few more appearances. What a shame!
Amazing how he spaced his words. Sounded like music.
She's only 17
Poor Ginger wasn’t looking too good that day.
Because of the posting of this clip, I bought the DVD online and enjoyed the movie. Thanks for posting.
LENA HORNE INTRODUCED THIS SONG IN 1957 AND PUT HER VERY SPECIAL LENA HORNE FLAVOR TO IT. GINGER ROGERS, BRAZENLY IMITATED HORNE'S VERSION HERE. SHAMEFUL RIP-OFF. LISTEN TO LENA HORNE'S VERSION AND YOU WILL SEE ruclips.net/video/Y0MPmqQVats/видео.html
Nonsense, Ethel Merman introduced it.
Wonderfully silly and wonderfully self-deprecating. Just fun. Great ladies that I used to love watching with my parents when I was a kid. There were certain shows that were a must every week and Dinah Shore was one of them.
Are you related to Ida Lupino?? She was married for a time to my great uncle, Collier Young. One of the great regrets of my life was not meeting her when I was a kid. She was a stunning, versatile actor and a magnificent director. And paved the way for female directors in Hollywood.
Imagine what you could have learned from her 😢
She looks amazing for 48 years old… back then that was ancient. Lol
Wow!!!!!!!
Was expecting Howard Duff to do a cameo
What a talent! What a woman!
The Great Ginger!
Great show! Thank you...
She was a director too. Way ahead of her time. A pure talent. 😊😊😊
GINGER RODGERS is entertaining.
Can someone not upload the ENTIRE movie? 2 minutes and 22 seconds is LAUGHABLE!
Can you please upload the entire Film in HD? 🙏😊
Alas, I don't have this in HD, rather standard DVD. Also, Warner Bros. owns the copyright. They have released this on DVD, fortunately. I hope it gets aired on TCM more frequently than it has been recently.
My mother looked like a lighter haired version of Ida Lupino when she was young. Makes me miss her more seeing this. She's been gone three years now. It was neat learning that Ida was also a gifted director.
Was this the movie?
If Idas' in it. Its' a winner in my book!
"Familiarity breeds contempt."
So funny ❤ absolutely wonderful.
Both women were Great. RIP
@johnflynn9619 Yes they were Great. Thank you
He wanted to see the musical watch. Ida elaborates about it. He looks amused.❤😊
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Ginger Rogers several decades ago. She was totally charming. I was with her about 20 minutes & while leading her through an airport & I told the famous dancer I couldn’t wait to tell my friends I had been with Ginger Rogers & I lead. She laughed & when we parted she winked & said, “Don’t forget….you lead”. Today I’m the proud owner of a pair of cufflinks that were once hers.
Nice story about Ginger Roger's. Thanks for sharing!
What a memory! And My dream!!! You’re so lucky and it’s so nice to hear that she was an Angel in person as illuminates on the screen! Thank you for sharing
Ginger is wearing a gorgeous gown and it's a pleasure to look at her, but that number was underwhelming.
I agree. I would rather watch Dinah Shore stand there and smile.
@@leelarson107 Ridiculous comment
@@derekc4503 I'm on team @Zee. She looks great, but this number did the impossible, made Ginger Rogers look like a klutz.
This painfully reminds me of how bad live variety TV was in those days.
Bad? TV in those days was never that good, and since then it's risen to a new low. Former FCC Commissioner Newton Minnow was right when he described the whole thing as 'a vast wasteland'. I remember TV in the late 1940's, and it was a lost cause even then. And don't get me started on what Hollywood movies have turned into.
"Painfully"...your opinion. In 1958 TV was competing with Hollywood, and the expectations of audiences for entertainment was different than today. Today (2023) dancing is overdemanding acrobatics, singing/songs express morbid selfish primal verse, visuals border on inappropriate nudity, and condescending humor at the expense of others. I'd say this vintage TV presentation was... enjoyable compared to today w/out offending anyone (other than anyone that would wish they could fit into that dress Ginger wears).
@@leelarson107 ..you must read a lot since you are so sour on TV.
@@501rivet I was born in 1939 and saw all this crap in person on a tiny Sentinel TV from Sears. You are very sadly misinformed if you think crap in 1958 was somehow immune from crapiness. The chairman of the FCC called all of TV a "vast wasteland" in the late 1950s, and it got steadily worse. Today pretty much all of TV is unwatchable.
@@rocketsroar1 You are one opinion, which is ok, for you. Hope you "feel better" expressing it even though others may/will disagree... like me. I don't determine entertainment value w/the FCC expressing their contrary view, as my to be accepted view. Art is not determined by information but rather interpretation. Entertainment is a slice of art as its created as an expression. Art definition can still be morphed into accepting "bad art"...socially, or physically in its general definition. Its the details that complicate things. What you like others may find as "crap". Lighten up. Prior to 1980, in a general sense, living/life was not as stressful as 2023, though even that statement can be debated. Exertainment was made to be a "feel good" moment, not expressing controversy, as 2023 does. This tango was complicated and masterful to create and manage. From an era perspective it was visually fun, Rodgers is an icon, and I myself would not want to act out this performance. Its good entertainment...not "crap'. My one, but also a more generally accepted review.
Quite risque for the time period. I loved this. ❤
Ida was a really good actress. She was a director for film and television. No female has ever achieved this
