I still remember our liberation by the Canadian troops in Haarlem, however is makes me very sad to see that many of your comrades didn’t survived, and gave their lives for our freedom !

Gaaf als die oude kisten. Schitterend die low passes van die oude rokende kisten. Dat waren nog eens mooie spotterstijden. Ik mis de oude tijd langs de rollerbaan op Soesterberg. Is het tegenwoordig een stuk saaier lands de banen.

An absolutely beautiful tradition.

An American WW2 veteran was visiting Holland with his son and grandson, ostensibly to show them the places where he had served during the war. His son -- to the father's embarrassment -- was bragging about how his dad had liberated Europe from Nazi tyranny; seemingly single-handed, one hand tied behind his back. The Dutch citizens listened politely until one man finally spoke up, "Do you know who our Liberators were?" He pointed to a cemetery full of Canadian graves, "They are buried over there!... "

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. My father was a sniper in WW11 for the Canadian Armed Forces. He never talked about it, and had the scars from being shot on 2 separate occasions. The mental scars were much deeper. He was 16 years old when he enlisted...........
