We bought one for 500 at auction. Parts are a problem!! They have not made Hesston in 40 years. Parts are only available from junk yards. Also, you need to watch that the bale is rolling evenly in the machine as you go along. It was cheap, What did you give?
I wonder if you're thinking of a different model. I was able to get on Agco's website, and practically every part is available. I just bought a new twine knife for it. I don't know the year ranges of the Hesston, but the Case 8420, which is the same baler, looks like it was made from 1988-2000. Mine has a serial number that starts with 04 (not sure if that's indicative of the year)
I made one about twenty years ago out of a 3" x 10' stick of pvc. At first, I made a bracket for the 3 pt hitch. Later adapted it to fit on the bucket of my front end loader. I also did the same thing you did and clip the seed heads whenever I saw them. You will knock the johnson grass back, a lot, by using these methods. The problem here in GA is that I have a fescue field and the fescue slows considerably during the hot dry months of July and August and the Johnson Grass loves the hot weather. It grows tall and will choke out the shorter grasses.
Since that application, the Johnsongrass was probably eliminated by 80% the next year. I used the wick and clipped seed heads again this year on the remaining 20%. Should be down to almost nothing in the next year or 2
I've wondered how much mine weighed too, great idea!
@@TheTriangle4 Thanks for commenting!

Thanks for your hay weight demonstration with that nice scale. I'm going to order one to use on the farm. BTW, did you deduct the weight of the chain? No big deal.
@christopherjake5610 thank you, I hope it serves you well! Once I had the weight of the chain dangling, I 'zero'd out' the scale. Might have still been a few pounds of chain on the bale but nothing significant.
I had a Hesston 5545 round baler, which made a 4x5 bale. Bought it used, used it for ten years, and sold it for the same price I paid for it. Those are good balers. Very simple, not much can go wrong with them, and parts are readily available. They are not a "fast" baler, as it takes time to stop and tie a bale. But as you said, the advantage is that you are not pressed to get them out of the field the way you do with a square bale. One thing I had to do with my baler was cut all the belts the same length. I had to replace a couple of the belts and the remainder of the belts were stretched. Took the old belts off and cut them to the same length as the new ones. And yes, you need to address the loose chain. What I did with my control box was to attach a magnetic base from one of those nut and bolt trays. This allowed me to set the controller on the top of the fender when I was baling and easily remove it when not in use.
@lkj0822g Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to address the chain and I really like the idea of the parts tray magnet 🤜
Video of us using the round baler for the 1st time: ruclips.net/video/AbqlRMENH7k/видео.html
Any idea what the actual weight is? Wondering if my Bobcat Mt100 skidsteer can lift one full 🤔
@anythingadrenaline4515 this one was super heavy b/c it is the taller 330 gallon tote and then it was neatly stacked above the rim. Maybe in the 1,700 ‐ 1,900 lb range? The more common 275 gallon totes are shorter and much lighter. Maybe like 1,200lb or so. Don't have to fill it all the way up either.
What size is your pole barn do you have a video on it
It's a 30' x 50'. I don't have a video on it but it serves us well
Good no nonsense video. I plan on using this on a tractor quick attach system. Thanks for posting.
@jamessedgewick5222 glad you enjoyed it! It would work great on your tractor loader. I've used it that way as well

Awesome!
I love that area! I went to VT and have explored that area quite a bit when I was in college
@@SkylineAcresVA we are between Galax and wytheville
I started with a bale spear, after my 1st season went to a bale hugger. Look on marketplace, makes stacking so much easier. I ran lines from rear remotes to front loader, just unplug when I need rear remotes. I use it on my Kubota L2850 so you could too. Anyway great purchase!!
Thanks for the tip! I will look into them. Right now I am using pallet forks and flipping the bales on end and stacking 3 high. The video coming out this weekend will show my attempt at stacking 😆 Do you stack on end or on the round side with the hugger?
@@SkylineAcresVA on the flat end, less distortion that way. Plus we wrap ours so stacking on flat keeps the wrap in place better. To sell them either need a barn or wrap imho.
@@TheTriangle4 👍 I figured that's what you were doing. And you are 💯 correct about storing to sell.
Good video, very interesting 😊

Congratulations on your purpose your backs will appreciate it
Thank you, they definitely will!
You need to address the gathering wheels at the front of the baler, They pick up all the loose hay which hasn’t been rowed up and turn the excess hay back into the rows of hay.🇬🇧🇮🇪.
@michaellynskey7124 it's next on the list. I had explained that in the video but I took it out during editing. Most 530's I see, the rubber has come off and they are expensive! People just leave them off! I'm going to try the sidewall of an old tire bolted on there, or something similar.

I was looking into this model of baler because of its low horsepower requirement. Would love to see a tips and tricks video when you get some more bales though it

Did you have to mix anything with the paint for it to work in the spray gun
No, that's the beauty of these spray guns. They'll pretty much shoot anything with no mixing or thinning!
Nice job on the roller thin metal is hard to keep from burning through. What you can do is try concentrating the heat into the thick axle then making small cursive e's washing a little of the puddle up onto the thin metal. I also got my first welder when I was 16 which was 50 years ago and I still have it. Welding is so much fun and you've learned it the right way with learning stick welding first. If you want to practice, you can take a piece of metal, say 3"x3"x1/2" thick and just weld one bead after another across the side until you fill it up with weld. Cool it off and start over again. Keep building the square up with weld beads. With the AC welder you have there are 2 common welding rods to use, 6013 and 6011. 6013 is a good welding rod for most projects but if you have a old piece of rusted thicker metal 6011 will burn through the rust. 6011 doesn't make a nice bead like the 6013 does, you have to whip the rod with 6011. 6013 is more of a drag rod. Jody at Welding Tips and Tricks has some good videos. Good luck and have fun.
Thank you for all of your tips! I really enjoy welding and would like to do a few projects coming up. I'd also like to get a MIG welder too. I am going to check that channel out now that you mentioned...actually just subscribed.
@@SkylineAcresVA You're welcome. MIG welders are a lot easier to use, you don't have to think about arc length because the wire is always being pushed into the puddle. In 1988 the company I worked for bought a few Millermatic 200 MIG welders. I learned on that model and in 2010 I picked up a used one, went completely through it and that's what I use. There are a lot of used MIG welders out there on Market Place. When you go looking for one make sure you can get parts and consumables for it. Get one that has the gas hose and regulator or flow meter. MIG welders are not very good in windy environments because the gas envelope around the arc will get blown away. The metal you are going to be welding with a MIG welder has to be clean also, a lot cleaner than with arc welding. I subscribed to your channel and if you have any questions I'll try to answer them for you.
Thanks!

I am curious as why you mulched the area around the garden beds? Thank you! Looks nice-
Thank you. We mulched because we felt that was the best pathway material for us. Otherwise, we'd have grass that would need weedeating or landscape fabric getting ripped in the wind and by walking on. We did consider decorative stonel but went with mulch instead
@@SkylineAcresVA I guess I would be concerned about weeds just seeding in the mulch. I suppose if you are diligent and keep on the weeds as you see them, you might be able to combat them. We are in Missouri and it is a b a t t l e !!! I like the look of mulch or woo chips, but that is my concern. Thinking about getting some Vego beds. We spent 1000s of dollars and made wood beds, but 7 years in and they are rotting and falling apart.
