What Is Up, Indonesia? (WIUI)
Добавлен 31 май 2021
What Is Up, Indonesia? (WIUI) is an independent media platform that curates Indonesian socio-politics in an accessible manner for internationally-raised Indonesian youths. Here in WIUI we use memes, jokes, and pop culture references to talk about politics to make it more approachable and less intimidating.
WIUI was first founded in August 2020 as a primer for internationally-raised Indonesian (those who go to an English-speaking school, university abroad, born/raised overseas) who were unfamiliar with the intricacies of Indonesian politics.
Many who are educated internationally are not fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, making the country’s political discourse inaccesible through the conventional news. Although English sources are available, most are not beginner-friendly. We hope to bridge this gap through WIUI.
On RUclips, we will have discussions, deep-dives, and casual conversations about Indonesia sociopolitics with various actors and guest speakers.

The Importance of Science and the Stories We Tell Ourselves - Bagus Muljadi
Bagus Muljadi, an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, explores the intriguing relationship between science and mysticism, suggesting they aren't always competing paradigms. In this podcast we reflect on whether we still hold hope for Indonesia's future and discuss the crucial role universities play in shaping a nation's standards of knowledge and best practices. Bagus also challenges Indonesia's national narrative, asking: what are the stories we tell ourselves that drive us forward? Do we even have such narrative?

41:53 I am losing hope too. I do appreciate this podcast and several others such as Gita Wirjawan, etc. which trying so hard to raise the awareness of mid upper privileged peoples to make changes, but I think we need to be more concrete. Otherwise, this kind of podcast will only become a stage for privileged people to "mock" the underprivileged. As we obviously know, we only able to fix this through education. Hoping the government/politican to fix education is useless, because they won't spent their political capital for something that they can't brag about in their short term elected period (or make them re-elected). That is why they are focus heavily on economy, healthcare, infrastructure, something concrete that can be achieved in short term. Then, what should we do? I propose we should do crowdsourcing to build best school specifically for underprivileged. You guys have great influence and network, you with Gita Wirjawan can lobby the big companies to give their CSR to support your effort. Once you can prove that the school is making great impact, it will notice the politican, then capitalize it, ask politican for support.
I am so lucky to watch this. Still watching it but it's worth it! Thank youu

Actually plagiarism is a problem in all place.. Not just Indonesia.. Our problem is brain drain due to our educator's low salary.. Imagine being a person with PHD and offered to teach for only 300 USD per month.. That is UGM rate.. My friend who work in snack factory paid 2,5 times of that..

Garden of world
Everything said here is absolutely true! Indonesian universities have failed to safeguard the values of education and knowledge. The plagiarism case is literally a gut punch to our entire university system, I am pretty sure this is not the first case and I am very certain there are more cases of active plagiarism done by upper echelons of societies that will do whatever it is necessary to have a certain academic degree attached to their names. This is due to the fact that our society is obsessed with degrees but not with knowledge.
sudah pasti yang bisa diukur, bukan perasaan dong
