There are lots of people like myself who were perfectly heathy before getting gadolinium and had perfectly functioning kidneys who have been completely poisoned by this crap. This nonsense needs to stop. GBCAs are administered way too frequently, even for routine or precautionary scans under the assumption that it's "as safe as water". At least let patients know that this can happen to anyone (even with healthy kidneys) and that it's a death sentence. Many people also have GDD which presents with many but not all of the symptoms of NSF but is nearly as debilitating. These people have been completely ignored by modern medicine. They are told gad is perfectly safe before receiving it then if they come down with neurological symptoms and symptoms of NSF they are completely disregarded as crazy. This is madness. Doctors owe a duty to help these patients. And the FDA has failed as a regulator by adding weasel clauses to these products to protect the pharmaceutical industry from liability while patients are literally being destroyed by gadolinium. It's always the same conclusion: we can't find causation between all the neurological symptoms you got right after receiving a neurotoxic heavy metal. Sorry, more study needed. What ever happened to informed consent and the Precautionary Principle? Profit over patients I guess.

I used it at my job and it was kind of useful, but nothing is a better learning experience than actually sitting and using a real scanner. Now if ScanLab used a mock version of what ever brand scanner your hospital uses, it'd make it a lot easier for someone to transition from ScanLab to an actual scanner. I can confidently say it didnt help me very much and I was aching to get on an actual scanner. I think I'd be further ahead skills wise had I just started only practicing on an actual scanner with actual patients. Just my opinion, but i really like the idea of ScanLab, just looks like they have some quirks to work out.

Hey @Kir_isaac we are based out of Arizona. Definitely can vary across the board. Our bases is slightly out dated and more in relation to Leading University Hospitals more then Outpatient imaging centers. But it is good to hear that things are finally becoming Competitive regardless of the certification.

Radio frequency is part of the electromagnetic spectrum so it is radiation. If we’re getting technical, radiology is the study of radiation which includes RF radiation. I like what they’re saying about changing the name of our field to medical imaging, however I’m not too sure on having different credentialing bodies. The reason is that I feel that we’re already too divided. We’re stronger in numbers and should be under one umbrella.

Interesting niche application with several obvious advantages. However these days you really need a multichannel sense coil. There is no way this thing is producing images with the speed and quality of a 1.5T or 3T with full sense coils, but like everything there are trade offs. I also don't love how the baby I so isolated, but I get why that is. Incorporating a shielded room might be worth it to make the bore open and accessible, perhaps an optional configuration? Are there coils for torso and extremities, or only head for now? So there are no ferrous object restrictions in the exam room? What does the fringe field map look like? Where is the 5 gauss line? Shim specs? Is it passive or active second order?

I'm a scientist and it really bothers me how confident radiologists are when speaking about the risks of GBCAs. They still treat this stuff as if it's safe as water and that's why the benefit risk assessment is truly flawed in my opinion. A single Gadavist injection utterly destroyed my body and I should have never had it injected but they wanted to rule out something to be certain, even though they were 99% sure I was just dealing with a nasty virus. I was perfectly healthy before my MRI (and MRI ruled out the throat issue being looked at). I was also not on any medications and had normally functioning kidneys (tested just weeks before). In the days after the MRI I developed dozens of horrific neurological symptoms, some of which still remain 6 months later. They won't acknowledge GDD - they say there is "no causation" and yet they also refuse to look. I can tell you though if you get GDD it will turn your life into an absolutely living nightmare. Skin on fire, pins and needles, electrical sensations in the skin, vibrating skin, tremors, involuntarily muscle twitching, maddeningly itchy skin, head pains, bone pain, insomnia, skin legions, skin changes. Not a stretch to think those could be caused by a heavy metal. It's insane to think that we are injecting a known neurotoxic heavy metal into peoples bodies based on the premise that "most will come out hopefully based on the chemistry" and "some will remain but we think it's probably fine". The worst of all this is that people pushing this stuff also REFUSE to talk to or study people like me. If they found out and had to admit that GDD is real everyone would refuse the stuff and companies like Bayer would lose a profit centre. I keep getting the same story: yes your symptoms probably are from the gadolinium injection because there is no other explanation (and the symptoms started right after your injection) but we don't know what to do about them and were not sure how to help you. Just know that if you get this stuff and it destroys you there is no antidote or treatment and no one will help you. Many will also call you crazy and that's the most insulting piece. I think one day, maybe in about 10-15 years this stuff will get taken off the market and there will be a documentary about how horrifically bad of an idea it was to use this stuff. Just remember how long it took for them to admit that it is the sole cause of NSF. Not hard to believe that GDD is also real with it being reporting by tens of thousands of people around the world and many more who are just told their symptoms are probably from the disease they had without any other investigation.
