Hi Mark, nice work, Army painter anti-shine varnish is worth a try but I think they look great anyway, Regards, Terry.
@@terrycrick3600 Thank you Terry 👍
Nice work Mark....Myself I must have painted and converted about 30 ACW Conte blister card sets over the last 20 years, a lot as stock poses but also a ton of conversion I moved arms, heads and back packs around between the 4 sets...plus some stock figs can be painted as Rebs or Union : )
Thank you. 👍 Your conversions sound really good. 👍 Edit: I see from the set up on your video. Very nice indeed. ruclips.net/video/pAuo23-41EY/видео.htmlsi=LkOPMOcJFIYM13e6
@@marklinnane1744 oh thank you Mark, that's an old video now...have done a lot more troops since then lol, might have to do a little showcase video of the troops then maybe a big battle set up in a few months...ps spare paragon heads fit nice with Conte : )
When you look at Conte figures the question arises, why can't manufacturers over here make figures of such character and in such animated poses? The American made figures have so much energy. I got some old Airfix figures a while back and while they are quite excellent sculpts, the range of poses is quite limited. Conte sculpts are a bit rougher but when it comes to poses they really are engaging. Lovely paint job as usual, by the way.
Thank you 👍. Yes American manufacturers are really good with great poses and range of poses. Conte figures are great in particular. British manufacturers produce crisp detail like A Call To Arms for example but limited poses which is a shame.
ANOTHER GREAT PAINT JOB SIR,YOU SHOULD HAVE A PICTURE OF THE FIGURES BEFORE PAINTING.I LOOKED ON LINE OF CONTE CIVIL WAR SETS,PAINTED AND UNPAINTED. I HAVE FOUND YOUR BETTER THEN THEIR PAINTED ONES,MUSEUM QUALITY AS ALWAYS. TAKE CARE
Thank you for your kind words as always. 👍
Those painted up real nice! Great work!
Thank you 👍
Классно❤
Really brings em to life, and their personalities too! I always thought about doing it. Will may buy some new recasts and try it!
Last couple of sets I got from Marx were awful . Not well defined and just big and blocky corners and it was so bad I almost suspect it was a third party fraud situation . But I sent them back to Marx and they gave me a refund so maybe not. I mean honestly they reminded me of the dollar store figures from the 1990s. Flashing isn't a strong enough word. There is enough extra plastic that you could have made another figure for every three figures you picked
You should get the centennial set to compliment this figure set
Yes I would like to get that at some stage.

Bellissimo
Thank you 👍
terrific paint job1
Thank you 👍
You bring them to life!
Thank you 👍
Good stuff!
Thank you 👍
I bought a couple of sets of cowboys painted one set grey Confederate and the other set Union blue. Added to each a civil war cannon. Looks ok!
Very nice paint work! 👍
Thank you 👍
Another great paint job! How did you approach painting these guys? Did you paint one figure at a time or paint all of one color (paint all the pants, then the tunic, etc...)? Back in the day I started painting one color at a time but ran out of gas after painting packs, rifles and bayonets. I had a lot more distractions (homework/sports!) back then.
Thank you 👍. I paint them 2 at a time. I think it's supposed to be quicker painting all one colour at a time like pants etc but I don't think I'd have the patience for that. So I prefer just concentrating on 2 figures at a time.
Great job! If you trimmed off the rifles on a couple of those poses you will have artillery crewmen.
Thank you 👍
Superb Rebs! Great poses and paint job!
@@philRminiatures Thank you 👍
Lovely work on the paint job Mark 👍 Bits of detail brought out well, but still bright and colourful in classic toy soldier style 🍺
Thank you 👍
Great paint job! I still have my Blue and Gray set from 1963 but it's somewhat worse for wear after siting in the attic for 50 years. Recently bought this CTS set plus a BMC version. Hadn't considered painting them until I watched this video. How did you straighten out the muskets as some of my guys really need it? The hot/cold water trick? That hasn't worked that well for me with 1/72 Airfix guys.
Thank you 👍. Yes I just used the hot/ cold water trick to straighten out any bent parts. Though I don't think they were too bad with this set in that regard with the set I got.
G'day to you Mark, Nice Painting Mate, do you spray them with Matt Varnish when finished, I have around 300 ACW in 1/72 scale, Inf. Cav. Artillery been painting for 10 years on and off, once again nice job! Armadale West Aust.
Cheers ,thank you 👍. I use matt varnish , I just use from a bottle and brush it on gently.
Nice work Mark, it's a vibrant set of figures, regards, Terry
Thank you Terry 👍
Your craftsmanship is brilliantly polished🍺🍺☘☘👏👏👍👍
Thank you very much. Cheers 👍
Wonderful video. I am your newest subscriber. 😊
Cheers ,Thank you 👍
WELL DONE PAINT JOB SIR,TO BAD THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE THE MOUNTED OFFICERS AND ARTILLERY MENS.THE BASE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM.HAD THE MARX BATTLE SETS SINCE A KID BACK IN THE LATE 50S.STILL HAVE THE SET FROM SEARS 1972 REPOP..AS A GOOD OLD SOUTHERN BOY,THIS WILL ALWAYS MY FAVORITE SET.TAKE CARE
Thank you 👍. It is a very nice set. Have a nice Christmas 🎄. Take care.
YOU TOO SIR,GOD BLESS@@marklinnane1744
I got the set for Christmas in 1961. I remember there was prone position rifleman and some crawling on hands and knees too.
YES AND YOU HAD TO GET SOME MPC AND LIDO CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS TO ADD TO THE SETS..HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS@@jimbobjennings8266
Great set mark, happy Christmas 🎄⛄
@@buffalobillsbasket122 Cheers👍Thank you. Happy Christmas 🎄
What colour did you use for "butternut"? Citadel's XV-88 or skragg brown or something else?
Hi ,I used humbrol 225 for the mustard type of butternut and humbrol 110 for the darker type.
I have never seen the marx Civil War union soldiers painted so perfectly. Excellent video. 😊
Thank you very much 👍
❤I love you ❤
When you consider the time in which these were originally made the quality of the sculpts is remarkably good. Anatomically reasonably correct with pretty good detail. As reissues, it looks as if the molds have lasted pretty good as well. Nice figures.
💥💥💥👍👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀🍀♥♥
Nice work Mark, these poses have real old school charm, Regards, Terry
Thank you Terry 👍
Excellent
Thanks 👍
GREAT PAINT JOB ON A CLASSIC TOY SET. HAD THESE IN THE LATE 50S.THERE WERE MORE FIGURES IN DIFFERENT POSES THEY LEFT OFF.THERE ARE A COUPLE OF GOOD BOOKS ON MARX TOY SOLDIERS SETS.THE GIANT TOY COMPANY MADE MARX FIGURES IN 1/72 SCALE IN THE EARLY 60S.THANK YOU AND TAKE CARE P S I STILL HAVE MY MARX FIGURES FROM THE 7OS.SETS.
Thank you 👍
Wish they made them 1/32 scale. Great figures
Bellissimo!
They really pop when painted!
They do indeed.
I have this set there nicely sculpted. I needed the wounded guys for my artillery diorama. The flag bearer I reworked by cutting away the flag and inserted a brass rod for the staff for the flag. The fellow with the ramrod and the belly is ridiculous and looks like a bad reenactor. I’m very impressed with your painting. Good job.
Thank you very much 👍
Nice paint job . The fellow resting his carbine on his forearm is ridiculous. Noe if one adds an arrow through his hand or blood as if he’s wounded, then I could see him aiming like that. Just my opinion.
Thank you 👍. I see your point regarding that particular figure. Some of the figures in the set look like they are based on figures from the brand King and Country. That figure being one of them. The King and Country equivalent has a bandage on his hand which does make more sense.
Molto bello
Thanks 👍
What a good paint job you have done, if I were you I would stick to using acrylic paint as the solvent in the enamel paint weakens the plastic making it very brittle. The figures I painter the guns kept breaking of as a slight touch. I gave all my paint and unwanted fantasy figurines to someone who lived at my last home.
Thank you. 👍 yes I prefer acrylics instead of enamel.
@marklinnane1744 I only use enamel on metal soldiers. I got some aluminium soldiers from France and I used white spirit and steel wool to take the old paint off, then I painted them in a silver enamel paint 🎨. Have you ever heard of BMC toys? You don't happen to know where I can buy tin soldiers do you by any chance?
Sorry I don't know of any toy soldier site that sells tin soldiers. I suppose EBAY would be the best place to look for them. I know of BMC ,I have a couple of their sets.
@marklinnane1744 I just checked out ebay and tin soldiers are over £50 per figurine. I don't think I can afford that 😕. Thanks for the suggestion, I will just have to look round some old antique shops for some.
Nice work Mark, very good painting as always, Regards, Terry.
Thank you Terry 👍
WELL DONE AS ALWAYS SIR,THESE FIGURES WOULD FIT IN ANY 7TH. CAV. COLLECTION OR DIORAMA.TAKE CARE
Thank you for the kind words.👍
Great set, keep up the good work
Thank you👍
Splendid paint work , enjoyed the comparisons also...factory paint jobs on Britains Deetail can be a little crude but there sculps a decent enough for a re work on the paint!............I know Paragon and TSSD did Native Americans ... But yeah strange nothing from Waterloo 1815, I suppose there is Airfix and i think CTS may have done some Indians that are more in the traditional 54mm size.
Thank you. Hopefully waterloo 1815 will do Indian sets at some point. If not , Airfix , CTS and BMC Indians would suit.
Im still struggling to buy any of this set. I found these in Canada. They have all sets of original and re issue versions. Some have just the horse riders other just the unmounted or to both in the 24 pieces or 25. Im in Australia so to buy any the price is extremely expensive. The full set of original is way over AU$200.00+. The smaller set of 12 pieces just under $200.00 AU. Re issue dark blue figures $160.00+. Its either i just buy or forget about them all together. Back to your Cavalry painted they look great. Your fortune to be able to get those. Not available in Australia.👍🇭🇲✌️
Thanks. I just happened to get them from the American site Classic Toy Soldiers a few yrs ago, when at the time they were selling the reissues so I was lucky.
Brilliant 👏 paint work here and the airfix 1/72 are tiny compared to most others as well good job 👏
Thank you 👍
Sir the paint job you have done with these figures are incredible. You trally bring them to life.
Thank you very much 👍
No big white braces nor yellow stipes for troopers. Nice and accurate painting👏👏👏
@@LucaGentili-d1v Thank you. That was the look I was going for. They had stripes on the figures but I just painted over them in the sky blue. Don't know why companies always seem to have the stripes on the figures when it isn't accurate. Even most Hollywood cavalry movies don't have yellow stripes on the troopers.
@@marklinnane1744 John Wayne's cavalry is hard to die..or perhaps companies' researchers all think the indian term "yellow legs" denoted every cavalryman and not just nco and officers
