So it would appear that mine was made in 1985. Thank you and now I have the correct owners manual!!!
Knowing now that it was made in 1985, it blows my mind that this rifle is in as good of shape as it is!!! Also it has the hogue overmolded stock as well as being scoped. I'm hoping it shoots sub 2 moa but eventually I'll have an accustrut installed on it to help with accuracy and keeping groups under strings of fire!!!
It also answered the 223 vs 5.56 debate and apparently it's totally fine to run 5.56 in the rifle even though 223 is marked on the gun!!!
I have a model 180 made in 1976. It's made........rate of twist for a 55 grain bullet. I increased my groups by tightening the bedding. Instead of glass bedding i used elecrical tape. Remove the wood stock and run one band of tape at the points of the stock that touch rifle. Reassemble. If there is any looseness disassemble and lay another layer of tape. Reassemble. I found two layers of tape was a good fit. Three layers was too tight. The tapered barrel makes for poor groups due to vibrations and heat. Make your own barrel dampener. Buy two clamps made to hang accessories on a barrel. Buy a metal pipe about 6 inches long the same diameter to fit the clamps. I found the weight of the pipe alone worked for me. If u need more weight u could pack the pipe with sand or clay. Next i made a heat sink to help cool the barrel. I bought a roll of copper strapping from the auto store. I cut two pieces and coiled them to about one inch in diameter. I placed one coil on either side of the fitting on the barrel that holds the gas port that draws gas from the cartride to push the action open after each shot. I filed and ground each coil to contact as much of the fitting as possible. This contact will draw heat rrom the steel......faster than air cool. I went to a hobby store and found a recangular steel box that can go around a coil and half of the fitting and barrel. The box is cut length wise. I drill d a hole thru each coil and the box. A screw and nut clamp the coils against the gun. I painted the box and the pipe buffer black and the gun looks cool. I have added about two pounds to the gun.......muzzle end. I shoot 2 min of angle at 100 yards using winchestet 55 grain 5.56 ammo.....

ammunition is important. the twist rate demands heavier bullets. 1 n 7
I am wrapping up some work on a 2013 Colt M4A1. It has a 1:7 twist and is producing sub MOA 10 shot groups with 55gr soft points. I worked through a couple different powders and a handful of different bullets. It has been a fun project trying to see if I can use the rifle on a prairie dog hunt that is coming up in a couple weeks.

As you already have everything you need but a barrel and ammo for 429DE... if you don't care to add to your set, I understand that, but I do think you should complete it with a 429 barrel. 429 is a really fast and accurate round in either loading. As far as the 357 Magtech ammo... it doesn't normally cycle well at all in a stock Desert Eagle. I test most commercial ammunition in all Desert Eagle calibers for compatibility in Israeli and US made DE's. That was excellent shooting at long range. I too, test out to 300 yards, but generally a 175y silhouette is about it for my eyes and skill. Thank you for the interesting video. MrBlackCat

I added a reply, but it is not showing up on my end. I'll try to replicate in this one. I have used them a couple dozen times. They worked without issue. I bought a couple of the lower capacity ones, but have not used them yet. I have not been shooting the 7.62x39 much recently.

I like to keep it around just incase something happens to my fixed factory mag. The feed lips on the archangel feel kinda flimsy so i dont trust it enough to run it as a primary. Take care

I have a wood stock 183 series, I just ordered an accu strut for it. Should I also mess with recoil spring and gas block? I have yet to shoot it but I don’t want to be disappointed
Reducing the gas port didn’t do much for the accuracy, but it did reduce the violent brass launches. I shoot at my own property and have to pick up all the brass. So, reducing the throws helps my clean up. Strut and getting rid of the plastic stock (if yours has it) would be my course of action. It’s a fun rifle! I hope yours brings you lots of smiles.

In my opinion, if ruger wants to sell more minis, They need to fix the magazine problem. The new ruger Americans in 556 can use an ar mag release because of a modification to the stock. It doesn't seem unreasonable to think they could do it with Minor retooling. I love the mini, but don't have one yet. If I could get a one on a good deal, I would, but right now they're way expensive.
It would be nice to use AR magazines!
those 75 gr bullets won't stabilize with a 1-9" twist. Why would you conduct accuracy tests using bullets that won't stabilize?
Did you see any signs of instability in the holes? Nope. Thousands of examples on the web of great performance with 1:9 and 75 and 77 grain bullets. Aside from this barrel, I have an AR with a 1:9 barrel that shoots heavier bullets without issue.
Bottom line, in terms of accuracy, Mini 14s don’t shoot worth a shit. This is pitiful, I mean pitiful accuracy.

I’ve had a bunch of Weber’s and I love them, but they don’t last for many years, with heavy use, in my experience. Having said that, the Nomad, is extremely expensive, and you can replace a lot of Weber’s, for the price of one Nomad
Aside from replacing the ash sweep and grill grates every couple years, I have Webers that have been running for decades. I cart them around Texas to cook for family on holidays and competitions. Pretty heavy use. What is not lasting for you?

you should hear all the people that hate the mini's and think they are trash... good grief, there are some haters out there.
Nomad has a lifetime warranty and is made out of aluminum. Aluminum bodies make all the difference. This makes the grill more fuel efficient and it won’t rust on you. The price on the Weber is nice, but in the long run the nomand is the winner
Heavy. Leaks ash. Not enough air flow in first gen. It does pack easily and looks cool.

There are many great options. Chassis systems, wood stocks and even polymer. I think the factory polymer stock is not great.

The only problem I've noticed with a scope on it. There's sometimes the Shell ejecting? Hits The scope. And drops back in it doesn't happen often, but it does happen

My M1 carbine gets the job done everytime along with being easy for my wife to wield with ease. AR's and Mini's in my opinion fall short. Just my 2 cents.

i have these 2 exact grill, the nomad SUCKS, i cannot get heat out of the nomad, using the same fuels, i use real charcoal, i can reuse the charcoal several times, i tried several charcoal brands, and brickettes, the nomad seems to just not work, having tourble cooking hot dogs, i have watched several videos on how to use the nomad
It is a struggle. Immediately I made that thread all lid holder. That allowed me to get some heat going on semi closed cooks. I think they added more vents in the new version.
The price point is ridiculous. I’ll stay with my Jo. I could understand the price if you do alottt of traveling. The Jo does not travel well. It does travel well to the park and back and relatives and back

That stuff was left by a buddy. He is an old timer, and he had about a one and half foot spread with it. He shoots about ‘minute of barn’ accuracy.
I put better front and rear sights on mine and reload my cartridges. Shoots 2 moa at 3050 fps.
I just watched the 3 videos in this mini-series, well done!! I am nominating you for a Tony, Golden Globe and yes, an Oscar. I know that they aren't all awards for videos but have you seen the junk that's been winning those things? No? Me either, I gave up watching all of those "award" shows years ago but I still remember their names, but not my grandchildren's. Glad you went with the A-TM stock, they are like being a young boy and getting new sneakers..... you can run faster as soon as you put them on. With the A-TM stock, I was able to shoot better as soon as I installed it. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it, lol. Great job on the videos and yeah, accurate out to 300 yards is a very capable coyote gun. Don't forget the cool factor of that stock too. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. 🙏👍

Yep! I built it from an 80% lower. It shoots great, and is a lot of fun. I have reloaded a decent amount for it and shot it out to 300 yards on a 12” plate. Definitely has a grin factor.

Wow. An IBM. Mine is a Standard Products. I love it to pieces and will not part with it. It is ultra dependable and I don't care about the cartridge but I know what a little mauler it is.

I have to question if you really purchased the rifle for your kids. My current belief is where you ended up, with the stock fit-up, might have the biggest impact on accuracy. The bases of my opinion is the accuracy changes in these rifles when stocks are changed (good and bad) by many people. I think Gun Blue was right. I have heard a rumor that Hogue Gun stocks are magical, and improve accuracy more than a Mo-Rod, even though it doesn’t look as cool. I have nothing to support this to offer you, but if I ever work on the accuracy of my rifle, this is where I will start. What year did you say your rifle was built? Up to 1997, they had a 1:7 barrel twist. I saw that you tried a lot of different bullet weights without any established trend. I suspect if yours is 1:7, the heavier bullets might work better. Maybe shy away from the boat tail bullet design.
ha! I swear! I got it for the kids (and the kid in me). This one is from 2000-2001. None of the bullet impacts on paper show any failure to stabilize, so the twist and length of the barrel are producing stable flights.
