Rebuilding a Jeep Comanche Part 1: The Acquisition!
I just had a new garage built by a local garage company. I had the old one-car garage removed, and a new two-car garage built (20 x 24). Had them do electrical, and they had to insulate and sheetrock the wall next to my neighbor's garage (firewall). Once I insulate and cover the interior walls, I will have invested nearly $50,000 into this project. Can't wait to get my woodshop out of my basement and into my new shop.
Right on. I’m currently cleaning it out now. I realized, why people delete it because it’s more practical than cleaning it. I am chasing a no spark after a two year rebuild and some of those connections were definitely loose.
Did you ever find a new one
I have the same compressor and after 2-years the pump went bad even thought I changed oil once a year. This is used for a residential application. New pump cost me $700. What a disappointment!
thanks for posting, Im gonna do a 20x20 about 40 min south of you next summer. Planning to use Menards as well.
Good watch. Thanks for sharing.
Where do I start on taking out the wiring harness
There is no need to remove the harness to do the C101 delete.
Does this asshole know people build sheds all the time? He must think he’s special to build a basic building. What a genius!
My wife told me that a ditch witch is a lot lizard for the excavation crew.
Access. Hang on Walls what ever. No worries of damage. I can go on .. But honestly? Should I? Great job. I like it a lot
Cuz then you can add on whenever and wherever no fishing through walls
My thoughts exactly.
Boo duck hater !!!
boooo
Wait why are you peeling back the floor and cutting? I have a 1986 MJ XLS and I'm worried about rust but so far have only thought about a abrasive pad and maybe a clear coat
In the process of working on the Comanche I inherited from my gramps when he passed. He bought it new off the show room floor, and it has been through the ringer. He used it like a truck is meant to be used. Getting ready to swap from that closed cooling system to the later open system. Thanks for all the videos! I love seeing Comanche content.
It looks so much better on the Comanche than the gladiators looks like it belongs need to fill in the holes with some tow hooks like from a 90s z71 model and it’ll set that bad boy off!!!!
It’s still not going to be able to tow a salmon upstream
Excellent work.
Thank you!
Sihdjc
Looks brand new!
So happy with how it turned out!
Sold! Edit: Had to go back and make sure I got one of each, both look great!
Thanks so much!! ENJOY!

Learn to weld.. good job
I just recently put one on my Comanche cause of this video. Looks so good!
You have to get it on the road then to see if they last...😂jk
I swear it drives!!
Steve enjoying your break working on the Jeep looks good man.
Thanks 👍
Nice building - FYI: my dad had a 2 whl. drive Jeep Eliminator, bright red, white stripes, alloys with the holes.. Beautiful looking truck. My brother was a jeep mech. He kept it until 2002. The jeep mechanic who mentored my brother purchased it from my dad and still has it.. It still looks great!
Very cool!
I get why you didn't remove the trees as much as you did but I would have removed more, especially that one on the left as you approach the garage bay. I just had a 40x40 four bay built with a loft that's around 12'x40'. You don't want to know how much it cost. I paid in cash.
You'd be surprised...that tree isn't nearly in the way as much as it looks in the video. Even backing into the shop is no problem. Hoping to put some gravel down in the spring to make it a little cleaner too. Congrats on the shop! You're right. I don't wanna know what that set you back!!
Well done. Did you have to make any significant purchases for tools to use for your build? Rental tools? What’s your plan for heating?
No, nothing significant. I borrowed some tools from a friend (framing and roofing nailer, drywall hoist for interior sheathing and some other random stuff) and rented a shingle conveyor, but other than that, I had just about everything I needed. For heat, I’m currently using a small kerosene heater which works great. I’d eventually like to do an overhead garage heater plumbed to a propane tank.
My city only allows 1 accessory building of 600 sqft but but you can abut/connect 2 building and it's considered as one if the total is less or equal to the maximum allowed.
Same here. But to do that I would have had to downsize the building a bit, which I didn’t want to do.
@@SecondChanceJeeps That's sad, btw what is your maximum size allowed and are you in city or county?
@@stevef.9659 600 sq. ft. and I think the max roof height can't be more than 16 ft. Those are township regulations.
@@SecondChanceJeeps I thank you because I used to work Building Inspection Department and was curious how my South Georgia area differed from other areas.
@@stevef.9659 No problem!
Remind me, why no windows? Just cost savings? And did you pull wire for the future hook up or are you going to plan for conduit over the sheeting?
Just didn't really see a need for any. The part of my yard that it's on is very wooded so honestly, putting in windows wouldn't have brought in that much light anyway. And I'm planning to surface mount conduit for electrical. Always liked the look of that and it makes it easier to update/upgrade in the future.
The garage I'm having built has three windows downstairs and one window in the loft facing the woods. Yankee redneck deer hunting in comfort.
Great video! You did a great job and I’m proud of you! Wish I could have been part of the build myself.
Thanks buddy. You and Bob will have to come out for a few days to thrash on a project soon.
Did you go through the build program at Menards? Was it pretty straightforward dealing with them?
I did. While nothing with Menards is ever “straightforward,” it wasn’t the worst experience. Definitely some bumps in the road, but as long as you keep good track of what you’re supposed to get and stay on them, it usually works out!
@@SecondChanceJeeps I certainly understand that! I appreciate it!
Any plans for a car lift?
Doubtful. I’d need to beef up the concrete in certain spots. Might just get a QuickJack or something similar so it’s not permanent.
Wondering if you have done anything else with the Jeep lately?
@@curtishenshaw5592 Almost done with a hidden hitch behind the JT bumper!
I'd like to point out that the floor pans listed on C2C's website and on their ebay listings look more like the Key Parts panels. They're also about $30 more expensive than they were at the time of this video. Could it be they did their homework?
Woah, you're right! Looks like they have definitely changed things up a bit. The new ones look MUCH better.
cardboard templating is a great way to make it perfect before cutting. cardboard Aided Design.....cAD
Amen! Gotta love CAD!
I watched you remove that floor bracing and was cringing the whole time! Why the hell would you remove good metal? Cut out rot only, leave square, straight-as-possible edges end replace. but only what is rotted. Just making tons more work for yourself for no discernible reason.
If I hadn’t cut it out, I wouldn’t have been able to get to the rot below it, which I wanted to replace also. I was able to reinstall the brace.
Pretty innovative fix. Unfortunately mine is stripped well before it gets that low. I'll have to figure something different out, or do a factory repair.
Yeah I think I definitely lucked out with how mine was stripped.
Good video sir,We would like to invite you to do a review video for our Auto LEDs lighting. Is there a way to write you an email?
Secondchancejeeps@gmail.com
Looks awesome. Great job 👏🏼
Thank you!
Very nice truck!
Thanks so much!
Until it starts wearing away at the glass and eventually the glass goes boom! Cut a wood block as a stop.
Good call. Gonna use some rubber fuel line over the bolt to cushion it.
Id use something with a little more cushion. Tempered glass weakest point is the edge.
@@jjbowen80 Thanks for the tip!
Good series of Comanche clips pal ... On this one, about the window stop ... See if you can find some vacuum line or fuel line that would fit tightly over the threads of the bolt ... Then zip tie it tight ... Reason is, you don't want to shatter the window ... Yikes ...
Very good idea! Thanks!
... My white, zero rust, '88 long bed, Comanche, 4x4, 4.0, 5 speed, with an extra tall shell, tips his hat 🎩 to your Comanche . From central California mountains ...
Thanks man!!
Looks like mine. My dad Bought me an 88 Jeep Comanche "MJ" passenger side is as bad.
Time to dig in and fix it!
Nice seat. I consider changing my bench seat for my 87 comanche. Im glad i watched this video i need Courtesy lights for the inside of my truck
The seat might be my favorite part of the entire truck. I love how it turned out!
Love the seat
Thank you! I'm a huge fan of it too.
Why would you put that ugly bumper on that beautiful Jeep! I mean, that’s the first thing you take off a Gladiator!
1. It’s my truck. 2a. I like the bumper. 2b. Personal feelings are subjective.
@@SecondChanceJeeps ok. But you’re wrong.
@@officialWWM There aren't exactly a lot of options for the comanche rear bumper lol, and I think it brings a nice modern touch. Planning on doing the same to mine!
@@haydenyoung9475 why not build something custom?
Looks great! thanks for the how-to, something to consider for my MJ. The tow hook holes on the bumper could work for a back-up/rear light
Good call! Hadn't thought of that.
Great work! Ill be doing my Comanche bed and chassis in the next month or so.
Hope it turned out good!
@@SecondChanceJeeps It did! I'm currently working under the cab, will do some raptor liner as well
@@El_Winss Planning on doing the same to the underside of my cab as well! Gonna do it when I do the trans swap when I have a lot more room to work with.
