On the Topic of Dreams (and Homework)
I'm currently taking a Dreams (among other things) class for my psychology minor, and since I have to do a video assignment for it, I decided I should talk out my ideas for it before making it, which proved to be very helpful. Let me know if I should do more of these with future assignments!

    4:44 if you like this playing with words, then the skelethon or noneshall pass album should be right for you Like cycles to gehenna, but be wary its a 180tone shift from that Btw LLL was so popular you could (idk if you maybe still can) buy a ton of merch for him, and also play his app Like they had LLL sweat arm hingys, or headbands, and i think even the orange trousers 6:57 what happened? you cut out the whole 3rd part ??? youtube copyright? because yeah the whole pi story is missing now You don't even read the lyrics like you did with part 1

    Hey soooo since you asked for what songs to listen next, and i had 16 days to think about it, i made a small categhorial list I don't know if you wanna know spoilers about the songs, so i am gonna keep with the overall theme and some important informations Edit: I know i forgot like a ton and have a lot of personal opinion in it, so many fans will probably disagree a lot with everything on this list) Edit 2: I forgott about all his colaboration albums, ffs, this mans discography is way too big and good (tbf when he started i wasnt even born yet) I will put 4 Special Songs at the bottom wich i think are extremly important songs (So yeah best comes last on this list) Story Teller: - Cycles to Gehenna - important note: its a story thats kinda told with the end first, and then what lead to this (personal interpretation with minimal spoiler : its a story of what aesop imagine himself doing after somethign tragic happens, but instead of doing it he wrote this story / song) - Also Music Video WHOOOO - Acid King: - Song about an real life incident that happened in i think the same school he went to 4 years before he went there - (and for real is fu*ed up read an article about it) - Only song from the malibu kent album i really like -Shrunk - Direct succsessor to kirby (also on the same album) - Talks about his problems with the mental health industry - Also his family - Blood Sandwich - Honest I think you will love the song - Succsessor to shrunk - One story about his junger brother, one story about his older brother with tons of references - Zero Dark Thirty - Astory about his time at Zero Friends the popup store from the artist Alex Pardee - Now close friend, made the art in the music video, in impossible kid, and also in the rings music video i think, and also a tattoo - Also the music video and art in the music video where made by alex - Aesop had a couple of performances in Zero Friends (most you can find on the 200 bats youtube channel) - The mentioned earthworms is a reference, to his 1. album "music for earthworms" - Holy Waterfall / Sleeper Car / The four winds - The whole Spirit world album is mainly about an ayuasha trip aes made through i think maybe peru, but those are his story time songs about it - (Seriously SWFG is just my favorite Album) - Agressive Steven - 100 Feet Tall - No reGrets - I love this song, its about living a full live - An experience you have to get yourself - Racing stripes - A story about his good friend (wich he also had a couple of features with) - Listen to this after Cycles to gehenna and Get out of the car, so this hits way deeper If you need something uplifting: -Jonathan -A story about becomming so good at something not even the devil can beat you - Also beastionary is my 2nd favorite album Feelings: - get out of the car: -its my go to sad boy song, so many lyrics resonate with me (but a different situation) -if my interpretation is correct its directly related to the incident that sparked Cycles to Gehenna - Gopher Guts: - Disconection with your family - Lotta years - about getting old - Dog At the front door / jumping coffin (wich you already reacted to but for the sake of a full list) - About paranoia / panick - Jazz Hands - Wolf piss - Isolation -Legerdemain - His like for skateboarding -By the river - His love for rivers (also 2 for one story about his uncle) Here is where my categorizing failed, like pizza alley, and get out of the car, are also very personal songs and i am not really sure where to put them So lets just say extras: -Pizza alley -On failure (Hey its like on of your regular video titles and also only 2 min long) - Drums on the wheel Also the spirit world field guide music videos especially have a whole different video story to interpret, analyse, so you gotta look at 2 things at once Special: - Commencement At the Obedience Academy - Hook is maybe a reference to invasion of the body snatchers -Actually tattoed the hook on his arms - The tugboat Complex 1-3 - 3 Parts, really at the beginnings of his career - One of four - None Shall Pass - His Magnum Opus - For real i am not kidding, the aesop rock reddit had a month longevenet cathegorizing some of the songs, and this old song still won "unequivocally the best" - You need to make at least a 40 Minute reaction to give the Song the respect it deserves - I am not kidding, even if the reaction takes 1 hour please read the lyrics and try to understand and interpret them - you are a writing major, i like your reactions because you pause so often and categorize the stuff, do not feel ashamed/ sorry to pause its your USP, - If you want to listen to the whole song once without pausing, then again, to try and understand the lyrics, and then again without pausing to see if it feels any different - I am sorry for hyping it up so much, now the risk is high that it wont live up to the expectations, but at the same time, i am kinda confident it still does Btw in 2023 my spotify rewind told me i was under the top 0.05% of aesop rock listeners, an i listened to none shall pass the most with 78 times And this year i listened to it at least 80 times already again. So yeah, now you have a huge list, with your upload scedule probably like 2 Years of content to react to, my top suggestions are - Zero Dark Thirty - Cycles to gehenna - Shrunk - Get out the Car -By the river -Wolf piss -Blood sandwich -Acid King -Gopher guts And obviously: None shall pass

    Funfact Aesop rock and blockhead are friends since i think university Blockhead produced most of aesops stuff This album is not produced by blockhead (thats why the mixing sounds off a bit) Anyway now for the fact: The next album is again peoduced by blockhead and for the album "garbology" they made a "recycle bin" wjere blockhead remixed 3 of Aesop's songs 1. Pigs (a part of a coffee from non shall pass) 2. Defender (from impossible kid) And 3. Kodokushi And at first kodokushi was my least favorite song on the album Then i heard the remix, and i loved the remix Then suddenly i started liking the original aswell And now kodokushi is my most favorite song on the album, and i like kodokushi as much as i like the remix Also i need to look at the lyrics to understand the voicelines Like i keep hearing "Aiden come here you see em"

    I feel like what you're describing is natural at your age, full brain maturity is a few years in the future. Your channel is amazing from the bit I've seen and as long as you know it's what you should be focusing and working on don't get distracted or discouraged. I think it will pay off! My experience of that time in my life (33yo now) is, like the thought of being homeless, is to find out who's really there for you, including testing yourself if necessary. My "mistakes" at your age, like not pursuing bitcoin could be one, led me to something far more valuable in self-knowledge of an undiagnosed childhood traumatic brain injury, no abusive people in my life, and a peaceful, trusting attitude that I believe could sustain me if I ended up homeless again. Maybe there's a lesson in the Benjamin Franklin quote I was going to cite: "Work as if you were to live 100 years, Pray as if you were to die To-morrow." A popular misquote, the one I was thinking of and feel like I heard first, is "play." Both seem important. Homelessness seemed like such a negative, "couldn't happen to me" thing, I actually ended up using it as a tool, spending a few days living in my car, my phone even got stolen, to get abusive people out of my life; finally addressing childhood impulses to run away from home. Keep writing and doing what you're doing I'd say. 🙌

    Now you know why we told you to watch both together The songs are like 70% same lyrics Basically shows you 2 sides of a medal Basically twin blades but songs And also his best live performance (seriously you don't need to make a video but please watch the live version where he fuses them) Also something that confuses me a bit is that daylight was released in the labor days album, and nightlight was released in the next album But daylight was re released in the same album as nightlight 10:50 also the genius stuff is sometimes very weird, very nonsensical and wrong It's great to explain the references of lines and meaning of some wordsg, but aweful at Interpretationen and looking at the story of the whole lines/verses/songs Next song idea: if you want a funny animal song again "long legged Larry"

    The impossible kid is one of aesop rocks most personal albums, after a close death he went to live on a farm by himself, made also this album. It has a lot of songs close to aes, lik his troubles with the medical treatement systhem in "shrunk" and now how the cat actualyl helped him more Big recomendation: he made a 6 part mini series before the album release, where he is at ""therapy"" 12:00 this cartonish style is very important, i recomend a video called "how aesop rock raps, cyclesto gehenna" there he calls a motorbike helmet an "Face masking, hard-shelled ebony propeller hat"

    3:40 if you like that, i can recomnd the music video for "zero dark thirty" even tho thats a very i would say historical song (it references a lot of his time and experiencewith things that happened during that time (zbzero friends is the popup store his artist friend alex had, where he also had a couple of live gigs) Alex also drew aes a tattoo, and did a lot of art in different videos (like zero dark thirty, or rings)

  • @THEJPIndustry
    @THEJPIndustry 29 дней назад

    3:00 important: A lot of the lyrics will make more sense when you have nightlight right next to it, i do not know if i should put the lyrics from nightlight here. Anyway in my interpretation these 2 Lines are a direct reference to Sokrates and Platon Here it sounds a lot like the way Sokrates used to walk around the Town and asked people about their believes, and started to ask more and more argumentitive questions to find and or disrupt the source of their believes, often annoying people and angrying the higher class people. Resulting in him beeing executed. And here it does sound like aes comparing his way to sokrates way. I do know this maybe is a stretch but nightlight having the demons in basement, aes giving enlightement to cavemen reference to platons philosophy does make me intepret it this way Platon: We are all people trapped in a cave never seeing the real outside, only having demons above the wall use the light from the sun to make shadow plays, sowe do not know how the real stuffof everything really looks, and only philosophers are the ones brave enough and turn around to look at the world behind the shadow plays Also 15:35 "Watch red Bricks turn yellow" is i think a reference to his older song "one brick" from his labour day album And the "live is not a bi..." is an answer / front to Lil Wayne "Gonorrhea" where he had the line: "Life's a bit**, naw, better yet a dumb broad And I bet I can fu** the world and make it cum hard" edit:nvm a quickgoogle search showed me, that the lil wayne song came out 2010, so way later Wich also gets really important later, in nightlight where he flips that line again, and admits that highroading someone is making himself an A**hole

    • @ju4408
      @ju4408 27 дней назад

      I think the Sokrates (your spelling is more accurate, I love it) reference is what he touched on saying "martyrdom". Aes knew he wasn't aiming for stardom, but being true to himself and his idea of art. Sacrificing an easy future to not sell out. Let's get him on Cycles to Gehenna.

    While its not a new special lyrics, if anyone wants to feel some amazement i recomend the live performance of daylight/nightlight Because day/night have 80% of the lyrics the same, with jsut extremly smart changes that makes you feel like watching 2 sides of the same medal. In the live performance, aesop 1. takes the nighlight beat and jsut switches between the 2 versions constantly, like i think 8 bars nightlight, then 8 bars daylight and then after the chorus he does the same with the daylight beat, and the 2nd verse of daylight/nightlight Once i listen to what he says, with both genius pages open, i couldnt stop my mouth from gaping, for doing that insaneness.... live (so yeah big recomend for "evening light")

    I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the juxtaposition “Nightlight” has to this track. There’s a video where the ending of this one fades into the intro of nightlight and well.. it’s just wonderful lol. Lupe fiasco unsure if you’re familiar with him as he’s another amazing hip hop artist, does a lengthy video on this platform describing Aesop rocks creative genius. I feel like you would find this fascinating to watch that perhaps on your own time but in one part he likens Aes’s lyricism/cadence to Jackson Pollock. Which I found fascinating that you also made the correlation to his music translated into visual art. Generally, ones who enjoy and refresh YT everyday for Aesop breakdowns Iike me are dying for more people to do what you do, and you do an amazing job at lyrical analysis and the subject matter as a whole way better then you give yourself credit for. Sure, personally speaking I would like to hear more of the song in your videos but it’s not so much the inherent song so much as it is your analysis specifically that makes it “content” if that makes sense. Like your point is valid in that just go listen to the song for that. But the Aes heads here already have/own it 😂. The simultaneous reaction/analysis is what we’re after because we’re aware that this dude is something other worldly.😂

    Oh this is nice, not many people cover Aesop Rock so I'll stick around. I wouldn't mind seeing anything else but if you're taking some suggestions then here are mine. I see you did Kirby, it's part of an unofficial trilogy of sorts from Impossible Kid that goes Get out of the car -> Shrunk -> Kirby (kind of started at the end but no biggie haha, the first two are very good, especially the first) The whole album is pretty much Aesop's introspective journey of his return after dealing with some heavy baggage for a long time and everything from it is great (Blood sandwich, Dorks and Lazy eyes are also great from it). From the newest album Salt and pepper squid and Time moves differently here are a bit of another duo and they're very funny tracks and 100 feet tall is another track that takes me out every time (it's a bit of a niche within the niche but I just love Aes' comedy, one of the most brilliant examples of it Dog at the door from Spirit world field guide but it kind of requires the context of the album to really makes sense of both what it's about and where it comes in) All city nerve map and Bermuda are also fantastic tracks from ITS. And as for the classic Aes there's None shall pass, Pigs and Coffee. Can't go wrong with any of those. Either way whether it's any of these or something else all is welcome, just happy to see someone else enjoying Aes.

    There is no reason to take over 20 minutes to review or react ro a 3 minute song. You are not going to understand what Aes is saying pausing after every line. You sound stupid. You need to hear four or five lines ahead to put together all the bars to be able to comment on them. You're doing it wrong. This and the other wrong video you did both get 👎 for your stupid "analysis" and I am telling RUclips to never recommend this channel. What you do is bad, and you should feel bad. the rings means when you chop a tree down you can count the rings of the inside of the life of the tree. so basically instead of admiring his life as a “tree” only counting his accomplishments “rings” after his death.

    A coffin is also a skateboarding term, and I think Aes used to skate? I’m almost positive he did, just not quite enough to commit 100%. Gives another layer to the skateboarding aspect of the video though. Your catching onto the loner/ghost themes reminds me of one of my favorite songs of his, also from this album (probably not a good one for a reaction but I’d sure love to see it): I go from a homie to bogey and ghost; I’m sorry if you know me as both. (From Gauze.)

    10:45 fully intended. I can’t remember who he said his inspiration was as a child (maybe Grandmaster Flash, I dunno) but he said he wanted to incorporate multi layered rhyme schemes into as much of his music as possible. You should check out some of those color coded lyric videos that break down the multi syllabic rhyme patterns. I’ve found patterns I hadn’t noticed for years. Speaking of which, I’d like to suggest The Greatest PacMan Victory In History (from the Bazooka Tooth album) because he has an extraordinarily unique verse in there where he uses L in the first letter for the first word, S for the second, and D for the third, repeating the pattern for at least 16 bars. I heard the song for at least a decade before I finally realized the pattern he was shooting for. Blew my mind

    My guess on the “drawstring eaters” line is actual drawstrings like on a hoodie. Maybe referencing anxiety, like it’s a habit to chew on your drawstrings and that’s the type of people hanging out late night in NY walking around.

    Helll yeah, if you like the cryptic style aes carries. Rob Sonic is great, and Hail Mary Mallon (a collaboration between Aesop and Rob) is amazing. Dope video!

    I think the rings refer to the rings of a tree. That's how you know the age of the tree, by counting the rings. The chopping down also suggests this. Chopping down a tree just to count its rings is a wasteful act in itself.

      @dshman Still, a pretty solid analysis. Aesop's rhymes are dense with symbolism and can have just as many interpretations. I think that's the point of his music.

    the only thing that tries to live forever is cancer. it literally turns off the expiration date of the cell in hopes of becoming immortal. everything in our known uNiVerse is evidence that once something alive, dies, it becomes even MORE connected to LIFE & provide life STRENGTH, that we were taking when we were alive mouth-breathers...just saying I LOVE WHEN AES SATURATES U IN HIS WORDS & THEN ENDS W/ 'SUP' sooooo funny within all the depth of seriousness
